Beebplayer woes

Just to cement my reputation on here as a moaner , anyone else having trouble with Beebplayer. Almost unusable on Wifi. Crashing, pausing, and what a bad audio sync problem!

Real shame. I wonder if the developer has tried it on a Hero?

Do you know which version you have installed? Versions 0.5.2 and 0.5.3 were problematic for a lot of users, but the latest version 0.5.5 (0.5.4 was skipped for some reason) works like a dream for me and others from what I've read on the comments section of the app.

In Android Market, click My downloads and see if there is an update available for it.

+1 I would love to download them before hand then watch them later instead of having to stream and have Problems {Vodafone UK signal sucks so hard to stream without problems}

Hey, not sure what's causing these issues, but it's either (a) network issues again, or (b) the BBC streams (which remember are designed for Symbian, not Android!) have been altered in some way that OpenCore2 isn't exactly compatiuble with. There's not a lot I can do about this unfortunately except say to try again later.

As for download capability, I'd love to add this. At the moment Android only supports OMA DRM 1.0, whereas iPlayer on mobile phones uses OMA DRM 2.0. I *could* have beebPlayer fetch the unencrypted iPhone streams, but this would land me (and the BBC) in a bunch of legal trouble so this isn't a viable option I'm afraid.

But I am aware of both these major issues and am investigating constantly! Sorry to hear you're having problems.

Mine is like that so I removed the app.

I couldn't get Beebplayer to work at all on wifi but I changed my router to a Netgear and it works perfectly.

Hopefully in the not too distant future an "official" app will turn up.

Same here. Great idea but I tried a few programs (Top Gear mainley) and it was totally unwatchable.

You say it might be an idea to upgrade to kernel 1.6. I'm on 1.5 at mo. I'm happy with the updated Orange ROM. How would I update the kernel? Upload a new ROM I guess.

Maybe I'll wait for the 2.0. Will Beebplayer be OK on that do you think?

I'd be surprised if the BBC weren't working on it already. That's partly why I only stick to the basics, as the BBC will be able to provide a more full-featured and high-quality app far more readily than I.

You should recieve an automatic OTA update. Other people will be able to offer manual instructions as I don't have a Hero!

I've yet to test it myself, but it really shouldn't be any worse!

Might not be a bad idea to consider upgrading to the 1.6 kernel. I found it made the phones UI a happier place to be Especially seeing as the 2.0 update is scheduled for... whenever it happens.

Love the Beebplayer Johnsto, a great effort and, when it buys me an extra 20 minutes led in bed letting my 2 year old daughter watch a Timmy Time stream, worth its weight in gold... not that I let her hold my precious HTC toy

@Frank: I'm sure you're already aware but upgrading the kernel means re-installing your apps. If you've synced contacts and calendar with Google everything else comes down like a dream.

I find that hardly any of the playlist seems to be available and I have to watch on my laptop.

I've never managed to get it working either, just installed it again (havent tried version 5.5 before) and it's still the same as ever - about 15 seconds of appalling pixelly video before the video freezes and leaves me with just audio.

This is the same regardless of whether i use the app's own player or android's one.

N.B. this is with a good wifi signal, and iPlayer runs just fine on my PC.

Runs fine on my G2 through wifi or 3g if i have a decent signal. Of course it is a tiny bit pixlelated but thats to be expected. It is certainly more than watchable.
