I don't believe every phone needs a snapdragon processor or to be the next "super phone" like the evo or nexus one..

But, lets be honest here.. at&t needed a home run and this is strike two...

I don't have a problem with the phone itself.. and it would probably be great for a starter phone for someone who has never used android before..

However, as someone who is more conscious of the tech I'm running.... the 600 mhz processor is horribly dissapointing.. I can see a snapdragon processor still being updated, working great and running anything I would need to run on a phone.. (sure that will change over time... ) But, lets face it.. I have a computer sitting by my tv that the snap dragon is more powerful than...

I don't know if its true froyo pushes the snapdragon to get more performance out of the n1 than the ipad.. but, avoiding putting out snapdragon means that even if they get a snap dragon.. it will be after iphone 4.. and froyo will be after iphone 5..

I can handle snapdragon even if it is slower than iphone 4.. I can live with that.... however, its not like att even really has a high end android phone..

Oh well.. anything att gets.. it butchers.. hopefully there will always be an unsubsidized n1.

No, it's not a snapdragon but it's pretty close. In terms of operating frequency, sure it's 400Mhz slower but in terms of functionality it's comparable. It's an ARMv6 instruction based processor vs the Snapdragon's ARMv7 but it has an FPU and L2 cache just like the Snapdragon. Also it has the same Adreno GPU. I know people like to look at basic stats and rag on things, but in reality the MSM7227 is a solid SoC. The only real drawback of this phone for folks like you is the screen size/resolution. Other than that I'd imagine the hardware would satisfy almost anyone.

Well, I do ok on my 3.2" screen and I'd imagine the Aria's virtual keyboard is better than my Eternity's. However... coming from a physical keyboard might be a lot more difficult. Maybe we'll get that HTC slider before too long.

I was told 380 off contract. But the thing is we want a high-end phone with a big screen that needs to be snapdragon(or equivalent, see the droid x) powered.

I know quite a few people who thought they would never leave a physical keyboard..

5 minutes with the evo and they didn't even realize the keyboard wasn't physical..

I can understand not everyone wants a super sized phone.. but, the bigger screen is really great.. The idea of something too much smaller would probably have a very cramped keyboard.. causing that "woops wrong button" effect I didn't seem to notice on the evo..

and I'm sorry but, 400 mhz is a pretty big difference when we are talking under a ghz in the first place....

And don't get me wrong.. this phone is not a bad phone...

However, it is not what people have been expecting from at&t in terms of an android release..

Wait.. no they were expecting this.. its not what they were hoping for from an at&t release..

I might buy one off contract since I never have a contract, and this might entertain me for a bit. I have 0 faith in AT&T getting an iPhone competitor Android phone.

The DROID X looks ridiculous, no way I could use that at the gym everyday, and the EVO $10 extra data charge is stupid. I'll wait for fall, someone has to be dropping a 1.3Ghz Android phone for the Holidays considering WM7 will have like 3 phones with it.

I thought the same thing with my blackberry phones.. I went from the pearl to the curve back to the pearl to a blackberry flip and was worried about texting on the storm but I ended up getting better at it after I sent a few messages from it and now I like touch screen keyboards better. I have had to text on my boyfriend's blackberry bold and I can't get use to the physical keyboard anymore!

379 on at&t premier's website.. I think its around the same in the store's.
279 if you receive some sort of discount.. mine was $100 if I would have bought it through there.

had an upgrade.
lost an upgrade and at&t couldn't figure out why.

store price is 129 after $100 rebate

I ended up getting it for $229 because the customer service rep did an override for me since my upgrade disappeared and changed to december.

not sure if I can get a rebate with that or not though.

My wife went the opposite direction. She had an Eternity like I did, but got the Backflip when it came out. Now that's she's used the keyboard on the Backflip she said she could never go back to virtual. It's almost appalling how fast she is on that thing.

I understand the criticism about the 600 MHz proc, but have you seen navigation performance next to the 1 GHz phones? Due to the smaller screen (and thus, lower res) a 600 MHz proc is more than enough for this little guy. Scrolling and navigation in general is noticeably smoother than my friend's Evo, and another friends N1 with Froyo. Almost every review touts the fluidity and speed of the device.

The 600mhz is only relevant if you are a size queen. The argument is entirely irrelevant because of the size of the phone itself. It doesn't NEED a 1ghz+ processor to fly because of its screen size and native res. I can't count how many apps and home versions I've had running on this guy so far without any issue.
