Hi,

I'm getting my first Android phone on monday, and I want to alleviate some of my bill with AT&T, so i was thinking of getting just the talk and 2GB of data a month. But I was wondering if anyone knew how the apps like Handscent send their text messages, and if they do...do you know how much data that takes up each time you send/receive a text? I want to make sure I won't go over my 2GB a month (screw them for not having unlimited data anymore.)

Handcent uses standard SMS messaging, not Internet.

Yep. There's two options I know of..

There is..
textPlus

Or..

Google Voice (if you have a GV account, free with invitation)
I believe this one is the better one of the two for Android phones. Google provides you with a new phone number which you can give out to other people. They call in and it will go to any phone you choose. You can call out too. But the good part is that the GV app for Androids is very well integrated with the phone. It will show up in all the notification areas etc. and it uses data.
