Help Evo Apps Running w/o me Starting Them

Hey yall I have an EVO and I have a problem with it. I downloaded the app Advanced Task Killer to take care of apps running in the background. However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up.

My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?

they aren't running, they are just cached and inactive. ATK makes no distinction between the two, so you think they are running all the time. Download SystemPanel, it will show you which apps are actually active, running and potentially consuming power.

Rule one in saving battery. Stop looking at your phone 50 times a day to see if things are running in the background. This is not windows mobile so don't think of it in the same way. Also if you have a rooted phone you can remove the sprint bloated apps so you can save battery by not having to look every second. Only use ATK if an app is having problems shutting down.

I can tell you that they are running. When I took the auto sync off for some of these apps my battery usage drastically improved.

not entirely true...you are now keeping (SOME OF) them from syncing their scheduled sync times. as an added note, turning off auto sync does not stop all apps from syncing and accessing data.

If you are worried about running apps you can check menu>settings>applications>running services. Those are the real apps that are running.

Now just to keep the EVO running smoothly and at a good clip this is what i did. (Please bear in mind there are ubergeeks that will do this process waaay better than I did. This is just my method.)

Make a folder on one of your screens called cleanup (or whatever you want) Then put ATK, CacheMate (for rooted phones), and a shortcut to running services. (menu>settings>applications>running services.)

Anytime its running slow just go to the folder. Run all three and you'll kill all apps w/ ATK & running services, & cachemate will free up @ least 700kb to 20Mb of cache. There you go.

BTW, some things like Swype & "Agentservice" you can't fully kill. (you don't actually want to anyway)
