Switch from Hero to EVO?

I have been using the HTC Hero for sprint for about three weeks. Overall it has worked fine for me. Only problems I've had is is difficulty with using the keypad at times (wrong key getting pressed)and occasional phone lagging.

Because of all the great reviews I've been reading I have been considering upgrading to the EVO. My son got the EVO two weeks ago and has been having a nightmare with the battery draining very quickly and the phone shutting itself off at times. He just exchanged his EVO for a new one yesterday. I'm wondering if I'm just setting myself up for headaches making the move to an EVO. This is further complicated that because I am at the end of my 30 day trial period I would not have time to switch back if the EVO didn't turn out to be a good thing. All feedback greatly appreciated.

SWITCH! the hero's lagging will do nothing but get worse... there are few battery tips here and don't worry aboutbattery life, you have to turn stuff lk gtalk off.... but anyway you should definitely upgrade

I did it. It was like switching from a notepad to a pc. The battery life is pretty bad. I just keep chargers everywhere. I have one in my room, living room, car, work, and computer bag. I plug it in when possible.

Wow guys slow your roll. First off I've owned a Hero since launch last year and while it does have lag, not as bad now with the 2.1 update, it is still a great phone. I made the switch to the EVO when it launched earlier this month and love it. I gave my Hero to my wife and laugh every time I hold it after getting used to the huge screen on the EVO.

The battery life issue is not nearly as bad as many have said. The EVO ships with just about every battery draining service running just to show off features. Half the stuff in there that is turned on can be turned off. I use Dazzle Configurable Switcher to allow me easy adjustment of screen brightness, wifi, bluetooth and ringers. I switch to wifi at work since CDMA2000 (Not just the EVO) sucks battery like there's no tomorrow if the 3G signal is low. I turn off GPS at work since I'm not really likely to need directions to the copier or toliet. With regular use e-mailing, texting, reading web pages, updating my apps and overall moderate use I regularly get 15-20 hours off of one charge.

I was a major Hero lover. The phone was the perfect size and I had it for about 8 months. I loved the phone. I switched to the Evo and I feel I finally found the perfect phone for me. Your concern with the Hero was the lagging and the keyboard, with the Evo you'll notice that those two problems are gone. As far as battery life, I average about 20 hours per charge. Mind you that I did all the tricks you could find here on this forum and my phone is not yet rooted. I say make the switch if you want the most awesome phone ever made.

I got my new EVO 5 days ago, and the first few days the battery would drain within hours... I was almost ready to take it back, but after a few days of draining and recharging the battery now it lasts all day.... so give it a few days and you will notice a huge difference.

The Evo has a built in Power Control widgit, just add to one of you pages and you can instanly turn on or off wi-fi, bluetooth, and gps. You can control brightness with a tap and it also has an instant sync button.... Using the features on this wigit has added hours and hours to my evo's battery life.

Not to hijack the thread, but I am about to pick up 2-EVO's and 3-Hero's. What is the lag thing that is being discussed here on the Hero? Is it a show stopper? One of my employees that will be receiving a Hero is coming from a non-data cell phone. So she will have her hands full just getting used to all of the capabilities. Will this lag issue toss her another curve ball?

No not a show stopper. Lag can be when trying to look up a phone number the phone/computer can lag a little, or when scrolling through a screen it can lag a little, biggest pain is at times you go to actually dial a number and there is a pause or a delay. Not really a huge problem it just requires a little patience. You don't get it on the EVO because the EVO is twice as powerful as the hero. My wife is also using the Hero, also first computer phone, also more than she needs or is used to.
