New update taken down?

I can't believe doing an update twice would have this effect. That's like flashing a rom and then flashing it again and bricking it. In the Root world of android, this is done all the time. Something is not coded correctly and that is what's causing the problem. Doing a flash twice should not do this.

Given the size of the patch (22 or so Mb) this is not like flashing a rom. It's more like applying a context binary diff. It seems that this is not an idempotent process (most patch tools are). I'm kind of shocked that they would deploy and upgrade tool that never bothered to check this. And even more shocked that the OTA version check doesn't exist or doesn't work.

This is 20 year old technology and standard operating procedure for OTA upgrade systems.

damn.. i wanted to update tonight.

first reason was because i was busy at work and was actually waiting for a call back when the message popped up. second reason was because it asked if i wanted do it over 4g & wifi or just wifi. i thought well i don't have either so i better do this later.

so i come here to read how things went with the update and now there is no update :(

oh well i can wait until they get things sorted out.

Thats annoying so we all jumped ship to find out it wasn't ready yet?

Is anyone else having random issues after the update, I noticed when i get a text and bring down the menu and try and click the text notification it become inop, so i have to do it 2x, only happens sometimes, but never happened before update, also Wifi isn't fixed, and phone still feels the same no speed increase for me - :(

Everything will be back to normal in 2 weeks.

Exactly. General rule of thumb when it comes to technology, always wait until all the bugs have been ironed out before pulling the trigger. This is normal and will continue to be so. Sorry for those that bricked their phones, but I'm sure the the software devopers will find a fix soon. Now to wait patiently for the next update. And even when the next update is released......... WAIT, research and research some more before pressing "Yes" to update. ;)

Shame alot of people can't update because of a few that lack common sense :( The update is great...EVO is perfect, I can't think of anyhting that will make the phone better other than the FROYO update!

Was rooted and used the RUU.exe to go back to stock to get the update, everything went fine...apparently a bunch of folks tried to flash the update to thier rooted ROMS and bricked thier phones as well as some supposedly trying to install the update twice bricking thier phones on the second attempt but I am really starting to wonder if this is an excuse all the newbie folks that tried to update thier rooted roms not knowing what they were doing are using to get new phones after bricking...

I think Motorola is smart to lock down thier bootloader and keep people from rooting as it seems their is a mass influx of iPhone users who should not own Android devices! Hopefully they head back to iPhone LOL Nothing personal I just would hate to see an open platform like Android ruined by a bunch of neophytes...

Cheers.

I updated, unrooted. I only got the update once. Everything went fine. However, any notifications I get for email, text, or IM will not vibrate...even when in vibrate-only mode. Other people are reporting this as well. So, there must be deeper issues with this update.

I hope they get it fixed and offer a patch soon, because this is a huge issue.

EDIT: Link to thread about vibrate issue: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/111139-my-alerts-totally-haywire-now-after-download.html

I'm repeating what I said in another thread. I believe the OTA was rushed out to meet demands for fixes. It's HTC's fault for programming issues and Sprint's fault for not testing the OTA thoroughly on all hardware versions. It was most likely rushed as a retention plan to keep new customers happy before their 30 days were up. It looks like it may backfire.

You sir are correct and they lost 1 of my accounts for their quarter end.
But they should pick it back up for next quarter. I'm not buying another EVO until the White one is out for 2 weeks, so August 1. Maybe the EVO will be $150 by then. :D
