Root Unrevoked for Incredible (Recovery reflash tool/Easy root method)

Just wanted to say a big THANKS to everyone in this forum/thread... I've been lurking here for quite sometime and finally took the plunge. Was a little more nerve racking than doing MOTO Droid in past as the dummy proof automatic tools are not quite there yet for the Inc.

Anyway made it through the root process via the 10 min YouTube video with only a few tries and then the unrevoked nandroid deal. That part gave me a few troubles all solved by searching this thread.

So once again THANKS TO EVERYONE HERE for your posts.... So happy now with root, WiFi tether, full backup, crapware removed, titanium backup, set CPU, screenshot thingee, etc. Haven't installed any full custom Rom yet... will prolly wait till Rom manager is able to play nice so I can do so in automated fashion.... Thanks again!

Thanks to all of your posts. Each and everyone of you assisted me in rooting my phone. It is working great... however... the low storage notification i keep getting is causing problems with my phone. It is not allowing me to add apps thru market. It is a constant notification that only a factory reset can fix. I have read in the forums I can reset the phone without losing root. I am comfortable doing that, but this is the 4th time in the last few weeks I have had to reset it. I deleted my htc stock mail app and stock messaging app, downloaded cache mate and the low memory still comes up. Can anyone give me a solid answer on how you overcame this? Other than that I am a extremely happy rooted incredible customer.

...and then used rom manager to restore....

Hey... I thought I read that Rom Manager was not playing nice yet with Incredible Root/unrevoked Nandroid thingee?... something about overwriting... having to do the loop-hoop all over again... is this not true? I previously bought Rom Manager/selecter and used it with moto-droid... was REALLY nice to browse Roms and one click it... can I go back to this method for trying new roms? can I can I huh huh huh?

I am stuck at Obtaining Superuser privileges. The reflash will not continue without authorization. I have installed the driver for the bootloader interface but when I reboot the phone windows adds it to device manager as ADB Composite Interface. Maybe I am missing something, If I power the phone up via volume down and power it boots to the HBOOT screen, then I plug in the usb and it goes to HBOOT USB PLUG and the driver in device mgr is the bootloader interface, what do I do from that point? I have rooted the phone ( what is the best way to verify root).

Thanks
This is what I did:

With the phone booted normal (not Hboot or recovery) and plugged in to the USB (with debugging mode on), go cmd prompt and sdk\tools folder then run ADB SHELL, type SU, on device a box pops up, click OK and CHECKMARK

This is my first android device, as well as first root. The custom restore partition works great. I have heard some whispers, however, that it will prevent me from receiving an OTA update when it comes out. If that's the case, I hope I'll be able to update manually when the updates are released. Thanks for any help anyone can offer to this question.

I have tried to get this to work on three different windows 7 pcs and I cannot get it to work. Every time I get to the part where it says "waiting for phone to settle" or whatever, and the phone reboots, it gets to the homescreen and then it gives me the error "Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again." I don't know what I am doing wrong! Everything works up until that point. Now I have one question, do I need to have the phone in HTC sync mode? I have tried to put the phone into charge only or disk drive mode, but then usb debugging doesn't work. The only way I have gotten usb debugging to work is through HTC sync mode. Also, I don't have any HTC sync stuff installed on my pcs, therefore it isn't that (on the pc side) that is interfering. Any suggestions? This is driving me crazy!

Did you already install the Unrevoked driver that comes in the download bundle? If so, I'm going to reach a little here and guess that you are lacking the plain Jane driver for phone recognition. Easiest way is to just download PDAnet to your PC and it comes with the driver. Then reboot your PC and retry the whole thing and see if it works. I'm guessing that's why it's giving you the comm loss notification. It's switching from the bootloader driver to the general android device driver which may be missing from your setup.

I tried installing the PDA Net drivers and still no luck. I try on my iMac too and it sits at Waiting for reboot...

stupid question time!

so this will root the phone, yes?
just plug in to PC and run the exe file...thats it?
and if i read it right, it doesnt stick, it goes away after a reboot?
if so how does that work with any of the things one does with root access?

im not really interested in custom ROMs (for now) mainly want to get the mobile hotspot going from google

just need a dumbed down how to

thanks guys!

WOW! Just tried it and it worked. That was so easy. I couldnt get ANY of the other methods to work.

I cant believe I sat there for hours plugging and unplugging and what not and this program comes along and Ill I had to do was attack my phone to the usb :p

So all you did was plug in the phone, with USB debugging enabled, and run the program (reflash) and it worked?

Was your phone just turned on, or was it booted into HBOOT? Or something else?

Also, how long did it take on the "Obtaining superuser privilege" screen?

Thanks.
