Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

try doing a factory reset once, the install task manager and kill unwanted apps which runs back ground, I noticed after boot up the RAM left is around 75-90 MB which is horrible but when I use task manager and kill unwanted apps, free RAM goes to 200 + MB and phone runs preety fast ....

does it really reaches 200+ ?? coz e1 i generally do the samething.. but i have never noticed it going above 170... and after multiple use of ATK i find the ram just diminishes e1 wen nothing is running except clock and ATK it reaches approx 60... bt i havent notice any lag due to it bt ya sometimes it does lag..

hmmm .. did some research on the this issue.. The main problems are.

1) The apps are installed in SD card so it will take some time to open them the first time.. Its like SD card to RAM slow access..

2) Using Advanced Task Killer very frequently is bad because, android will store the image of the app running in memory (RAM) and those apps will open up faster when opened next time. but this phone can use only 256 mb of ram cos there is no Highmem support in the current android kernel of the phone.

3) Samsung widgets are not programmed for efficiency.. they take up a lot of space on the RAM.

So the only verdict i can give now is "FROYO CAN ONLY SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS" as froyo has answers to first 2 problems and the third one.. we can just switch off the widgets .. So guys "We all say, When galaxy gets froyo, it will get stronger,we'll call it superfone, just like nothing else" :p

so fabler, any idea how do we get the paid software in india ? as the android market does not list them so we cannot buy and download , what are our options ?

The itunes have option to pay in USD and buy apps in india...

Right now google have not enable it for india. There are no option to purchase application in india. There is a hack available which enable market to show paid application but it's not recommended.

Google has said that they will provide a paypal support to purchase application from android market. But when, it's a question.

I do not see google earth also on market, but its free app from google, for such app can we download apk file and install, I guess thats legal ....

The application which are not compatible with your device or the OS running on device that won't be displayed in the market. So, I think google earth is not compatible with your device that's the reason you are not able to see it in market.

I can see it in market and install it. I've nexus one running froyo.

SGS has better hardware than nexus one, if its compatible with nexus one it should be with SGS...google earth needs better hardware with graphics compatibility which is all there in SGS...

what version of google earth have you installed from market ? I found its apk version 1.0, I wonder if I can install it and be legal ...

Yes ofcourse. SGS has far better hardware than nexus one. And google earth can run very smooth on it. I am running latest version of google earth. It's 1.0. You can install it by downloading apk file from another site. It is legal.

I think it will required by google earth team to update the application (just some device compatibility list or something) to make it display in SGS market.

After receiving froyo a.k.a android 2.2 update and official app2SD support. Many developers has not updated their applications to give support of app2SD. It depends on them and their priority. For this device compatibility case also.

I think we cannot talk here about downloading games illegally here.

ya thats what i thought too but like if we have a .apk(legal) i heard there are 2ways to install it one by file manager and other is using a tool called adb... i just wanted some info on the adb thing like do we require a root to use it??

and has any1 here rooted(i guess its nt wrong to talk abt this here) their SGS or upgraded their firmwares to those available on the internet and not on the kies application???

I would prefer file managers over ADB.

How to install using file manager ASTRO.

1. Connect your phone with the PC via USB cable (select storage option if it asks). Now you can see a removable device in your PC.
2. Copy .apk files to your phone
3. Disconnect USB.
4. Open file manager
5. Navigate to the .apk file location.
6. Click on the .apk file. It will ask you to open with app manager if you have ASTRO. Select that.
7. Click on install button.
8. Click on install again.
9. voila.

Hope that'll help.

I don't know much about rooting as I don't prefer it.
