Li-Ion or Li-Pol, which one you got?

As we now know G9 and G7 are the same, according to gsmarena;

We saw the discussion about the different markings on the battery (G7 on some units and G9 on ours) forming up so we decided to contact Samsung and see what all the fuss was about. It turns out that the hardware specifications of the G7 and G9 batteries are identical and those numbers are only used to identify regions – G7 being for Europe and G9 for the US.
Now there was some discussion about this on a Finnish forum and people started checking their batteries and found out they actually have Li-Ion, not Li-Pol batteries, as the phone should have, according to Samsung's official Galaxy S site.

So the question is: Which one you guys have?

I'm on Li-Ion G7 myself.

Yes... after initially being told the Galaxy S were to get Li-Pol (due to Li-Pol which is manufactured much thinner than Li-Ion), I agree... I'm finding all posts so far show the battery to be of a Li-Ion.

I'm currently finishing off a test which will open a discussion on overcharging and not to worry with the problem which I will post on the forum very soon.

I've posted this in xda-devs but will do so here later.

ohh.. no wonder the gsmarena guys were getting such fantastic battery life in their tests.. they were probably given a piece with Li-pol battery.. apparently in their testing the battery lasted 84 hours with usage! check it out here.. Samsung I9000 Galaxy S full battery test ready ? up with the best

A Li-pol battery gives much better battery life compared to the Li-ion of the same capacity..

Btw even mine is G7 li-ion

EDIT: ok just found out that Li-pol are also called Li-ion polymer.. so could it be the Li-pol battery but its just marked as Li-ion?

not sure about that, with mine (G9) and most svcs turned off (wireless networks, wifi, gps, no data synching) screen at 18% brightness, phone was taken off charge last night about 12:00 Am. Today left the house with phone at 94% (had used it for alarm this morning), did zero web browsing, checked emails twice, about 1.5 hours of voice calls and at 6:30PM it was at 34% charge left

battery has been thru about a dozen charge cycles

Can anyone enlighten me why a 1500mAH li-pol is able to give a better battery life, its like saying a if a cup was made out of pure gold it can hold more water.

Quite....

My presumption was that as it's a better battery technology you would be able to get a higher _capacity_ battery in the same physical size.....

Anyway, on a related note, anyone know of any third party / higher capacity batteries?

seido will probably have some but do a search on engadget - there was a test/review of all the aftermarket higher capacity batteries.

Even the seidos, which i gathered was a recognized "brand name" didn't fare well.

where the aftermarket batteries were marketed as slightly higher capacity than the original it was replacing, ie in our case let's say a 1700 mAh battery, they all tested to be no more than the OEM with the majority showing less capacity, while they were all priced higher than the OEM battery.

and the really high capacity batteries that required a replacement back cover to accomodate the oversized battery, were 10 - 20% less than their marketed capacity.

it was an eye-opener, for me at least
