compatibility of games for psx4droid

On a Vibrant running 2.1:

XCOM is flaky with lots of lockups

Xenogears has a really weird clipping error any time you try to change elevation. Obviously, this makes it nigh unplayable, which is unfortunate because it looks absolutely fantastic.

FF7 seems to work well.

I'll try a few more titles tomorrow. BTW, where are you guys getting ROMs?

I along with may others have emailed the developer, no reply, no updates! he is working on far too many projects (GBA, iphone, droid, + many others) he does not seem to care about his product, no instruction, no back up and no help. Sadly people who cannot get this working cannot get a rufund after 24 hrs from purchase! The dev should be ashamed, all that talent and no manners!

shame he cannot update the app information on the market and let people know, I dont use twitter and many others dont!

I'm with you on this, i don't use twitter, FB or any of those other outlets. I stumbled across it trying to find out if he was going to update PSX4droid or work on other apps. i haven't even found a centralized source for his apps and development. doesn't look like his website is updated frequently, a little note here or there would be nice letting us know what he's working on and what features. i like the anxiety of waiting for a foretold release/update :)

Why? His life won't revolve solely around making updates for this app, or even any others he's working on. He WILL have a life outside developing software you know, yet YOU'RE the one accusing HIM of having no manners. You should be thankful for him even making the app at all if this is the thanks he gets! It's only been out for a few weeks FFS, what more do you want?

PSX emulation is a lot harder than you realise too, so it's not as if he can just make one magical update that will suddenly create 100% compatibility with no glitches or anything. For example, ePSXe has been out since 2002, and the FINAL version was released over two years ago before eventually giving up on it. That still isn't perfect even after six years of development, as a lot of playstation games weren't coded too well, and a lot employed certain hacks to even work. There are dozens of different graphics plugins out to try to get round this, but not one is spot on for all games. With this app though there aren't any plugin choices, we have this one app that has to attempt to do it all. The emulator has to know how to get around stuff like this, which comes with a lot of development, and reverse engineering each and every game ever released just to see what's going on, BEFORE the emulator can be updated to support that particular game.

It's also not his fault that some people just can't figure out how to get it running. It's hardly rocket science, and there are plenty of people who haven't struggled to get it working at all. Even after they ask for help on here and get told how to do it, some people STILL can't get their head round it somehow. He shouldn't have to spend all his free time mothering the ***** that can't figure out adding a BIOS file and getting a working game image! He had already given instructions on the download screen in the market, how many other ways can he tell people how to get it working? And how many times do you expect him to keep repeating those same instructions every single time one of the world's less intelligent inhabitants ask to be spoon-fed?

I also don't see why he would need to say he's working on an update in the market either. Your phone DOES notify you when updates are available you know. ;)

Have you got to the end of Final Fantasy 7 yet by the way, or are you still struggling to get out of that tricky first reactor at the end of disc1? :p

@StuartTheFish

I totally agree with you! I have never used a PSX or PS2 or what ever emulator in my life. I tried to get a bunch of my games to work and I couldn't. So I did a little research and figured out the easiest way to get the ECM issue resolved.

For all the ***** :p Go there install. Double click on your rom if it has the file extension *.ECM
ECM -- Error Code Modeler (Better Compression) - Emuparadise.org Forums

Also another sweet place to get roms from is emuparadise it's the sheiiit :) I download a rom in 1-2 min tops at 500mb a piece give or take.

Ok so to MYYY question.. I freaking love car simulation games! I cannot stress this. My heart is broken that GT2 runs like poop :( Well I'm super happy that there is even a PSX emulator out there I never thought it would be done... So... If I root my Motorola Droid and over clock it (I'm currently running 2.2 stock froyo legit) will this game run better?

My last dumb guys question. Can I root my phone after having the 2.2 update or should I wait if it's even possible atm?

I have 20 games on my droid now.
I don't have sound on.

NFS3 runs good
High stakes 1\2 screen
Twisted metal 1&2 run awesome, I mean like stupid awesome!
Twisted metal 3 1\2 screen same with 4. I havent tried all the others yet. Although I Have them.
Castlevania runs at 80% speed, seems ok
Castlevania chronicles I have but I havent tried
GT1 keeps going in reverse I'm going to try manual like suggested.
GT2 Runs like 80% when other cars aren't around and like 60% when cars are :( Sound is choppy. Grr I wanna play this game so bad!
Both Gex run good.
NFS Porsche unleashed - 80% Speed
FF VII runs good - sound is choppy

BTW GO DOWNLOAD PSX4Droid Version 1.1

I'm being calm mate, trust me. I can understand people asking for an update, and I would like one too at some point, but I can't understand how some people like Patriotspyke can be so unreasonable about it, demanding it this instant or else criticise the developer for not doing it fast enough. If he had more than two brain cells he'd realise PSX emulation is FAR harder than he seems to think.

I don't mean to sound harsh in my post, I just can't tolerate stupidity. :D

while i have no hard numbers to report it seems like psx games run a bit smoother now on droid x 2.2

Yep I experience same thing on HTC-Evo also, little bit improvement, but still not enough for most games.

When i was on stock 2.1, GT2 on the psx4droid would run 50-60% of normal speed. On 2.2, it would run 60-80% speed. Still not playable, but defiantly have little bit of improvement.

Hopefully when psx4droid v1.2 come out, we can get 100% speed, and games that are unplayable currently like x-com:UFO would be made playable.

This is standard of ZodTTD's work. He puts out something that works 80%, then never updates it. He used to be a great dev, but he stretched himself too thin and no longer takes criticism or feedback on how to improve his emulators. He deleted his forums so you no longer can contact him efficiently after he pissed off the iPhone and iPod users by trying to scam them into paying for his emulators, which he always touted would be forever free, and there was a HUGE backlash in the community.

I bought this app because I want to support the Android community, but I knew full well going into it that this is how it would end up. I'm just happy to play some FF7 while I'm out.

On a different note ....

what does everyone think of this YouTube - iControlPad - History of Design ????

I personally find it a bit difficult playing games on my desire, I miss propper buttons ! the example in the vid shows how a control pad is being developed for iphone but the narrator at the end says that control pads are being made for "popular" phones on android too.

Here is a list of games I have gotten to work on my N1 not rooted running Froyo with a 32 GB class 2 card

FF9: (will freeze in Dali but I managed after several attempts to get it through) I am currently in disc 3 but the part where Alexander is summoned is not passable on the phone. I used the pSX emulator to get through the CGI there. A lot of people report this one as working but that is in fact incorrect with the Dali crash and Alexander crash I would say this game is not functional. Using a PC emulator to make it work is just a quick fix

FF8: Works map is slow...but in all versions of roms, compression, game Ids and rips I can make the Garden does not move. This means you have to play ALL of disc 2 on your PC until you get the airship. So FF8 does not work

FF7: Submarine is bugged you have to use a PC Psx emulator to play those parts (I would say that is a serious issue because this is not a graphics issue or hardware compatibility issue this is an issue with the coding of the emulator)

Legend of Legaia: First training battle is impassable on phone (whenever you learn a new arts move or sometimes when you use hyper arts) the game will freeze. After the first battle you can learn new arts moves on the phone; just save before you do cause the freezing is random. Once you have learned the move it will not freeze anymore

Xenogears: Sinks into the land but so far is playable because you can still interact with your surroundings it just looks weird

Valkyrie Profile works ok. I have heard people say it does not work will test some more to find out why.

Resident Evil 1-2 and Dino Crisis: Work great. make the trackball the aim button and you are good to go on these games with a N1

Tomb Raider 2: wont load a new game or load a game I have saved on the memory card. This is because you actually need the .cue file that comes with most games to play this. Something to do with the music in the game.

Tomb Raider 3 works but this game was not as good as T1 and T2

Driver Works

Twisted Metal 2 and 4 Works but twisted metal 4 does not let you alter the controls which makes it harder to play because you have to use the l and r buttons a lot which are hard to use on touch screen

Parasite Eve 1 and 2 1 is fine 2 will not load. It is stuck at published screen.

Breath of Fire 3 and 4: 3 works but 4 you ge stuck at a wall. You can pass it on PC but I have not tested to see if you get stuck again after that point.

Metal Gear Solid:will not start a new game or any of the other menus. Cannot even load a game. makes the PC work around useless...this game needs to work. Though I am not sure how we would beat psycho mantis on the phone only would have to use PC but better than nothing

Tekken 3:Way too slow. I did manage to rip all the videos from the game though and now it is only 45 MB on my phone

Brave Fencer Musashi Works

Einhander Works

Final Fantasy Tactics Works

Grandia works

Hot Shots Golf Wroks

Legend of Dragoon: Works

Lunar 1 and 2 Work great looking forward to playing them more

Silent Hill Sometimes you disappear in the back ground but works

Star ocean 2 works ok there is some slowness when starting new game as Claude

Tenchu Works but this game's voice overs were terrible

Vagrant Story: DOES NOT WORK. AI wont load...wish people would stop spreading false info that it works great. You cannot gain exp or items if the enemy AI dont load. You also cannot progress as at certain points you loot keys from bosses who wont generate loot if their AI dont generate. This is another Emulator problem.

Warcraft 2 works

Wild Arms 1 and 2: work

Tested a few more games I have not seen mentioned anywhere:

Again using my N1 with 2.2 default PSX bios all games as EBOOT

Alundra: No slowdowns works great

Azure Dreams: works flawlessly

Dino Crisis 2: works better than Dino Crisis one.

Fear Effect 1 and 2: Work great I have feeling for some of these multi disk games you will have to change discs on your PC unless they ask you to save right at disc swap area which many do not.

Hoshigami: ruining the Blue Earth: works fine

Jade Cocoon the Legend of Tamarayu No slowdowns works great

Tales Of Destiny 1 and 2: Both works great. Also if you want this series do not download Tales of Phantasia for your PS emulator because you can get a SNES translated one which is a fraction the size and the exact same game.

Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 Both work good. Vandal Hearst 2 is a little slow.

Thousand Arms I thought this game would work no problem but it does not. New game screen is black but you can hear music and manage to start the game. It loads but the ground is not rendered and eventually the game freezes. It is possible to skip this part on a PC but the game will freeze again in a short amount of time regardless.

Funny how out of all the popular games the emulator has a ton of problems but out of the less popular games I try the emulator runs flawlessly.
