Anyone jumping ship to Fascinate?

I currently have the Samsung Fascinate with me. I'll be comparing both the next 3 weeks to see which one I really like better. So far.. I'm very impressed with the Fascinate.

That is all I will say on this subject.

Please post up your opinions as you get used to both devices... I'd be interested to hear what you think pdf the comparison.

I almost held out for the fascinate, but the lack of a release date and reported GPS problems kept me with the X.

I will. I'm really going to test both devices with what I do day to day and use many different apps at the same time, including navigation.

To clear up any misinformation... the only thing that Microsoft really takes over is the search WIDGET and the little search button on the bottom. That's it. Google maps, google voice search, google navigation beta, google talk, google voice, gmail integration, and so forth are all fine.

If you have Google.com as your search engine in the browser... anything you search through it will go through Google.

not even 2 months yet. settle down people.

btw i love my x, would never switch to a samsung phone. they need to stick with tv's

lol TV's and monitors. A Samsung monitor was the first one I used that could pivot . I miss that monitor...... All the pivot ones now cost more than I wanna spend or are made by folks I dont know too much about.

Samsung burned me in the past with reception, but I wont hold that against them on the phone front. It just taught me a lesson about phone reception.

In talking to the in store CSR/salesperson/manager/who the heck knows, he told me that from here on out that Verizon now has a contract with Microsoft and Bing will be the default search engine on all android devices starting with the Fascinate from here on out. He seemed to be as unhappy about this as I was. I asked him if they would push this down to the D1, D2, DInc, and DX and he said no...just everything from here on out... So it looks like if you want verizon goodness and an android phone that uses google it will be root-time... I wonder how Google feels about this and how this will play out...

I considered and I spent some time with the Bing-doodle, the iPhasinate. Cute phone, nice screen. But here's the problem.

No android phone beats the X in the call quality and reception department. No one. No android smartphone has better power management than the Moto's. Build quality? The Fascinate is 100% recycled plastic. The Droid, not!

And did anyone ever notice why the Samsung isn't considered a Droid or have the name Droid next to it? It's because Verizon only uses that name on their high end android devices and the Fascinate isn't considered to be a high end android device.

Also wonder why Bing is on the sammy and some of the other low end multimedia devices and not Google? Its because Verizon only wants Google on the big dogs.

There's a rumor going around today that Verizon is stripping Google services out of its Android devices going forward in favor of their Bing equivalents (much the same way that AT&T has gone with Yahoo on some phones), but the company says this afternoon that it's simply false:
"...that is not true. We have a relationship with Microsoft and Bing is the search engine on our multi-media phones but we have never said it would be exclusive on all of our devices."
We think the wording here is pretty important: "on our multi-media phones." We take this to mean that Verizon's looking at using Bing on its high-end featurephones and its midrange smartphones, possibly keeping the end-to-end Google experience exclusive to its cream of the crop -- which would also explain why the recently-launched Fascinate didn't get the coveted Droid brand as a part of its name.

On a related note, we're hearing from a tipster today that an upcoming low-end Android device for Verizon from LG is loaded with Bing services, which strengthens the case -- it looks like Bing is the "cheap" experience for Big Red right now.
Oh yea, not me, not now, not ever. Not switching. LOL.

Edit: Forget that, I'm gettin one tomorrow. :)

I looked it over for awhile today. Heck I had been waiting on this phone for 3 months as I have had my eye on it since it was announced. I only got the DX when the only info about this phone was it may be coming in October. I have had the DX for a couple of weeks now and I am mad I did not get it sooner. Yes the Fascinate has a very beautiful screen and the gpu is top notch, but after playing with it for awhile today, no way do I give up my DX. I am sure the fascinate is a great phone and I hope everybody who gets one enjoys it. But for me the DX has too many positives for me... Screen size, call quality, battery life, 2.2 around the corner... for me it is the complete phone... This will be my phone until LTE comes out....

if the Fascinate feels anything like the incredible then, no thanks. I absolutely love the solid feel of the X. To me that is the most important thing. Build quality. Call quality is next and I'm completely satisfied with the X in that department. I get reception in places I usually didn't with my Eris. I'm sure its a great device that will perform well for whoever owns it.

You've got like 5 pending phones in your profile. LOL

Haha, i know i am a shitty person, i was just as psyched for the droid x, i dont know, u know when u pick up a phone and it feels right? Thats how i felt with the fascinate/// hehe. Well, if the sexy, evo-esque phone for vzw comes out within my 30day period, i am jumping the shit out of the galaxy s ship.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I can agree with this! According to the Verizon web site the full retail price on the Samsung Fascinate ($579) is more than the Droid X ($569), Droid 2 ($559), and HTC Incredible ($529). From a pure marketing standpoint Verizon would never price a middle-of-the-road phone over their high-end phones.

Also wonder why Bing is on the sammy and some of the other low end multimedia devices and not Google? Its because Verizon only wants Google on the big dogs.

Did you ever consider that maybe Google is on the Motorola and HTC phones due to an agreement already in place with Google? My guess is that vendors (ie., Verizon, Motorola, HTC) get kick backs (of some form) for including the search engine interface on their phones. Bing and Google tend to derive much of their revenue from Advertising on their search pages.

As you can see from the above graph, advertising is a huge piece of Googles revenue. If people don't hit their search pages they don't see the advertising. And if people don't see the advertising the search provider doesn't make nearly as much money.

No google nav (EDIT: Just saw above post, so my point is incorrect).
2gb memory vs 8gb
5mp camera vs 8 mp
4.3" screen vs 4.0 (even though the Fascinate has the super amoled)
There are more, but these are some of the biggest differences keeping me away from the Fascinate.

The camera is a non starter. It is all about the sensor. And I can not say which one has a better sensor. But MP is not all there is to a camera.

I did like the camera from my behold 2 from samsung. It was 5mp like what they currently have

This was a picture from that phone. I would imagine the camera has just as great quality

Also as a extra note: Since Verizon Online had deals with Microsoft to package MSN with online packages, it is no shock that they struck a deal with M$ for Bing on the phones.

One more note: http://erictric.com/2010/09/09/samsung-fascinate-with-android-2-2-froyo-gets-rooted-on-launch-day/
Apparently it has already been rooted... No surprise there.

No. The Fascinate has a smaller screen, and if it has the same GPS issues as the Captivate, then I wouldn't even consider it. If it wasn't for the GPS problems that phone has, I might have stayed with AT&T, but I use GPS often, and that's a deal breaker. That and I've had a couple mediocre experiences with Samsung products, so I'm in no hurry to get another one. One was a phone where the screen just stopped working at the 2 year mark (dumb flip phone) and the other was a 30" HDTV tube TV, the mainboard went out at around the 3 year mark and they didn't even support the set anymore for getting it repaired. $1200 tv that worked for 3 years, sour taste in mouth.

I hear you on that.

yeah it appears the vibrant on T-Mobile suffers from GPS issues as well. Which is sad that all 3 of the galaxy S phones have this issue. This was why I came to verizon since the latest phone they had running 2. anything was that phone.

Is it a Google phone? I mean, I know android is Google-made, but is the Fascinate branded like the other Droid phones with the "with Google" on the back? Just a question, I do agree with your point.

Yeah, i saw the phone yesterday and it says with google behind it, personally i dont mind bing, i guess people could just make google their homepage and go from there...

I don't know if camera phones are any different, but with DSLR's it's more about the lens than anything. It's better to invent in a $500-$1000 dollar lens than a $1000-$1500 camera.

Mostly because Cameras get replaced very easily. (The same line of camera I got two years ago now has the ability to shoot HD movie). While lenses do not

All megapixels are is a selling point, they mean nothing to the overall quality of the image.
