Help Movies on Evo ?

Go here and follow the instructions carefully (not hard). I did this and have converted 3-4 movies and downloaded them to my EVO 4G - AMAZING !!! Won't convert "protected movies" though (use anyDVD Commercial to convert first, then Handbreak. Works great).

TIP - find a VERY small movie/DVD (like one you might find advertising some product) and run that through Handbreak first. Takes much less time to see if it will work. Once you have saved your profile, you just use that from now on (not further set up needed). Easy peasy !!

I know this is old but...who cares ;)

My friend got the Epic and I have the Evo. He came to me asking for some movies for his phone so I told him he could try by using my video "Rick Ross-Aston Martin Music" and see how the video quality worked and looked. Upon using, we found that either it's hidden, or there is no stock app that can watch movies until we got RockPlayer.

The latest version of RockPlayer allows the play of MP4, avi, and many other types of movie files. It didn't used to be so good though, it would fade in and out and whatnot, then the newest version changed and it seems that most movies can be played very well.

As for getting movies, I got most of mine through buying copies at the store and them coming with a digital copy. I used to download movies and videos using "torrents" although they are considered illegal by most and I won't go into any more detail here. I stopped because I received a cease and decease letter from my ISP, so use at caution.

yea i wish we could get the blockbuster app like the droid x has. would make things much easier
i'm actually anticipating NETFLIX. use it at home and couldn't be happier with it. haven't watched a video of any major length of time, i would imagine that a full length movie would require a plug in. need to get me a few more car adapters and such...

It is called "Videos".

Side note, I had a large collection of WMVs I ripped for use on my Zune. They play perfectly on the Evo with the stock player, I was surprised.

The "Videos" stock that comes with the phone does not open certain files such as .mp4 and .avi. Another app is needed to open these and RockPlayer does this. I do believe that the stock "Videos" will open videos in formats such as m3gp or whatever it is called, but other than that, not too many other videos so third party apps are needed.

When downloading from torrents and other places, the video formats are typically in .avi or .mp4 for mobile devices.

Is there any way to stream videos to your evo for free?

Yes, here's one way that's almost free - Pogoplug

I'd caution that recent moves by the Febs, including briefings this week on deep packet inspection to Congress are under way - and that we have a new IP czar.

Free streaming of stuff you've not paid for - not worth Federal time or fines.

RockPlayer is the third one I've tried with the MKV files I have. Performance ranged from horrible (software mode) to just-about-non-existent (hardware mode) on my EVO 4G.

What I want to do is play MKV videos at 1200x720 out the HDMI port to an HDTV.

If I have to convert to another format to keep the resolution and have the HDMI output, what do you suggest?

I just received an HDMI cable for my EVO 4G. With the TV and phone off, I connected the cable, turned them on and selected videos in different formats (MKV, M4V and MP4).

While all the videos played on my EVO 4G, nothing was displayed in my TV when using either Gallery, the default Video player or RockPlayer Lite. I know that the cable is at least partially good as the TV displays a different message when the cable is connected to the phone than it does when disconnected.

From what I have read, there are no settings on the phone to activate HDMI output; the app either uses it or it doesn’t.

What, if anything, can I do to fix this? Are there any videos I can get that are guaranteed to output in HDMI so I can verify my cable?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff
