Root Like Sense? Try this ROM.

IMPO This has to be the BEST ROM out there. If you like sense, but didn't like some of the limitations (blue tooth specifically). And you want to enjoy Froyo (sense hasn't been ported to Froyo yet) check out Dual ROM. This is like having dual boot on your computer. A couple of downfalls, 1. you need to reformat/partition your SD card, 2. You'll need to back up all your apps too. But other than that it's awesome!

Here's the link:

[ROM] Dual Rom V1.1 | 2.2CM/AOSP 2.1 Sense in one.... [10/31/2010] - xda-developers

Make absolute sure that you follow the instructions to a 'T', otherwise your screwed.

Remember your broken phone is just that your broken phone, not mine.

When I first looked at this, I think I recall that there is no common storage for apps and data between the two ROMs - you have a set of apps and data for Froyo, and another set for Sense 2.1. Is this still the case? If so, I'm uninterested.

This is the case, Unfortunately. However for those of us that liked some things in Sense, you can have that back and for few things that didn't work in Sense (like WiiMote controller) they work now. So I can have my cake and eat it too! I have both "Phones" set the same, i used app brain to match my apps and then logged into everything after. Sorry to hear you don't like this, but to each his own I guess.

As a technical achievement, this is great... but as far as usefulness, I do not see why anyone would want to go through the hassle of using this. It's like switching back and forth between two phones... neither one doing everything you want... it really serves no purpose.

Okay, I see where you're coming from, but like I said in the previous post, I liked some things sense had to offer, but didn't like the limitations. And it's really not that difficult to switch between the Roms (it doesn't take long either). I like it, you don't have to (obviously) and you're right it is quite the technical achievement. Just for that alone we should give them props.

My issue basically is, if I am going to use something like this, I want Tweetdeck to remember where I was the last time that I used it; I want my SMS message list and call log to be exactly the same, no matter which ROM I am using; etc. Without that, I am far better off doing this manually by Nandroid restore with xtrSENSE or xtrROM and a Froyo that I really like, CELB.

It would be completely great, though, if they had an apps2sd solution that put all of your third party apps, at least, in a common location. At least you would have that. It'd be even cooler if they offered a script to copy all of your SMS messages and call logs when you choose to switch to the other ROM, and then a script on boot to replace those logs with what is in the data file just created.
