What features do you want on the Evo 2?

I would LOVE a portrait slider, ala the Venue Pro.

I really miss my Pre's keyboard.

the one main feature i love about my evo now is the lack of a keyboard. i came from a palm pre, so there was no soft keyboard experience for me ever. in fact, i've had BB most of my cell phone life up to the palm pre. now i have an evo and will never go back. keyboards add bulk and moving parts. you can't secure moving parts in a nice rugged case. you cant keep dust and lint out of the innards of your phone if you have a slider. i got a small arse rock in my pre, and it would scratch/grind everytime i opened it, I HATED IT! i understand you need a powerful device with a hard keyboard, ok go buy an epic, or even go get a Droid Pro. The EVO is almost perfect, minus some internal tweaks to make better (processor, screen, and battery). I would love it if they made a bigger battery, same thickness but longer to utilize more real estate under that back cover. OR else, just make it wide enough to where the camera lens doesnt jut out! that would be fantastic!

I'd be disappointed if EVO 2 had a keyboard. I doubt it will, as the EVO Shift/Knight seems to be the device that will cater to those who want an HTC Android phone with a keyboard. If EVO 2 has a hardware keyboard, I will not be buying it.

I just want some sort of trackpad. As a former Hero user, I still miss the trackball. Web browsing and text entry/editing was so much more effortless on the Hero than it is on the EVO. I'm sure I am in the minority on this one but a trackpad would be nice.

Also, better battery life and the ability to remove unwanted apps without having to root.

With the rate of bloatware additions, we'll need at least 1 gig of memory in the near future...

Here's what I'd like to see in the EVO's replacement:

4.3" higher resolution screen (perhaps AMOLED)
Separate GPU (can keep main processor at 1GHZ if needed, or upgrade it to 1.2GHz)
2 gigs of memory
2000 mAh battery

One day, I'd like to see some standardized hardware for Android. A docking port of some sort that is common among all Android phones would lend itself to helping us see more 3rd Party accessories for the phones.

I don't think you'll get your processor wish.

Many people think the Evo has no GPU (when in fact all superphone processors have a CPU, a GPU and various other processing cores for digital signal processing, image processing, and that sort of thing).

FWIW - all superphone processors are called SoC processors - system-on-chip - an entire chunk of a sophisticated PC motherboard is in that one chip, and in many ways, it's more sophisticated than your laptop. These processors don't run at 1 GHz - they run at a variable speed up to 1 GHz. If you run few processes, for example, they run slower to conserve battery life - if you run more, they run faster so you notice no lag in your apps (if your phone's set up right) at the expense of some power. This is why some apps seem to eat more battery, btw. You laptop won't do that - it just eats power to run at a constant speed and wastes a lot of that power as heat when it's not really busy.

Despite some tech blogs no phones have separate gpus.

In that case, is a 20% incase in cpu power feasible?
I think 1 gig of memory is more likely than 2 for the next generation, but I like to dream.
The screen upgrade seems like an obvious one to me.
Perhaps also the race to 1080p video recording would be a marketable upgrade s well.

What are your thoughts on a standardized hardware port for docking purposes? Does that violate the rules of "open".

Just like with desktop processors, the new trend for the chip makers seems to be dual-core architectures. There's already at least one of those out overseas -

LG Optimus 2X: first dual-core smartphone launches with Android, 4-inch display, 1080p video recording -- Engadget

I think 1 gig of memory is more likely than 2 for the next generation, but I like to dream.

Dream bigger - the new Nexus S is 16 GB, and from what little I know, it's not distinguishing that between the traditional rom/ram scheme - it's just memory.

Yep, AMOLED, or the upgrade to SAMOLED, might be improvements for sure. I'd actually prefer a Pixel Qi (pronounced key) display - on-the-fly switchable between LCD and e-ink. With e-ink, the sunlight viewing problem ends - brighter it is outside, brighter the screen appears. Qualcomm is also working on a new tech called Mirasol for displays - also very promising.

Perhaps also the race to 1080p video recording would be a marketable upgrade s well.

Provided they nail the video quality, I can't see any disagreement there.

No violation - and a cracking great idea in my opinion.

The Android OS is open - the hardware isn't. So far as I know, the only attempt at open hardware in a phone is the NEO1973 Freerunner, also running Linux, using Python much the way that Android uses Java, project details at OpenMoko.org and ordering info at OpenMoko.com.

I was waiting for the OpenMoko to come to fruition when I decided to go Android, fwiw.

i wonder what an "EVO 2" if available in June 2011 would look like?

1. 5" retina-like display housed in the same sized body?
2. Dual Core 1.2MHZ+ Processor?
3. 2GB+ RAM?
4. 2GB+ Internal Storage?
5. NFC - Near Field Communication chip?
6. 2 more microphones (like the Droid X)?
7. longer lasting battery life?
8. new Sense UI?
9. Gingerbread/Honeycomb?
10. World Phone capability?

it's a stretch to think how they could improve the EVO because it's so great to begin with.

I'd like more ROM (I think that's the right term for onboard memory). 1 gig is too little IMO. I would be in heaven if they did wwhat they are doing with the nexus S, but also slapped on an SD card slot. battery life would be great, but we have mostly been at a standstill in this department for years, so I don't think improvements here are going to be seen only on the EVO. I wouldn't mind the stock camera remaining 720p if the video it took (again, stock) actually looked half decent. Pictures, on the other hand, are wonderful, so long as you have a fairly steady hand. I also don;t mind the creen. I don't need SAMOLED, but I guess it would be nice. That e-ink combo would be far cooler IMO and great from a power saving standpoint.

Im quite shocked how many people would like to see a physical KB, no thanks, I'm still loving on Swype too much for my old Pre KB.

I'd love to see three things updated:
- Better battery performance.
- AMOL screen
- larger internal storage so we dont have to be bothered with managing space. Possibly integrate app2sd maybe?

Other than that, I'm still very much as pleased with this phone today as the day I picked mine up on June 4th. Get this......I STILL have the original phone too! I swear I had to be on my 3rd Pre by the 6month of ownership. HTC rocks!!!

I definitely concur with the ones in bold. AMOLED or SUPERAMOLED doesn't make much difference to me as long as the screen is clear and readable regardless of sun (which the EVO is just fine for my needs). Originally, when all the rumors were swirling regarding the internal storage being the same as the Incredible, I was happy. I thought the drop off to 1GB internal storage would bother me, but so far it hasn't. Only thing that bothered me was when the most recent update got pushed through. All of a sudden, for the first time, I got the "phone is out of space" message. Luckily, there were some apps that I couldn't move to the SD card that I was willing to remove and it set some of the memory free.

Other things that I hope they consider:
- Improve bluetooth voice calling accuracy (hopefully, they can make it as accurate as Windows Mobile was with that).
- Less bloatware or option to uninstall apps without having to root (I know many will tell me to just root the phone, but that's not really an option for me).
- If HTC is completely sold on Sense UI, make it more "customizable" for users (e.g. option to change color scheme or make transparent menus, widgets, etc., in order to see more of the wallpaper).
- Improved performance when phone is LOADED with apps. I know most tests are done without any applications on the phone, but it'd be nice for them to R&D the phone based on people actually downloading a multitude of applications.
- Adding on to the battery life, I hope they improve the drain when using 4G. Since L.A. is now supposedly fully live with 4G, I use it when I'm at lunch for 1 hour and the battery drains extremely quickly.

Regardless of all these things I "hope" they improve/fix/add, who knows if HTC and/or Sprint will actually pay attention. I hope they do, but even if they don't, I'm extremely happy with my EVO and could probably stick with it for another 1 year and a 1/2 before having the "need" to upgrade.

Did anyone mention DLNA? I don't have any DLNA equipment, and I'm not sure it's important...but DLNA is just one more acronym to add to your marketing literature.
Okay, I'll bite, what is DLNA?

as for additional improvements to the EVO (EVO 2), beside what I've said earlier, I would love the Pixel Qi display on it, so i can see stuff in direct sunlight.

Plus have it as a world phone (quad band).

DLNA is a transport method and supporting standards to share media across your house using a media-specific server/client model.

I have a TV with a DLNA client and I've installed iMediaShare on my phone - when I want, I just broadcast from my phone to home entertainment system over wifi.

The DLNA server is built in to the Galaxy phones, from my understanding, but it's easily added to any Android.

Details and video here:

Mobile Media Sharing - Mobile Media Server :: iMediaShare

Something tells me that by the second month of the first EVO's successful distribution that both Sprint and HTC were planning its successor. By now they have mostly if not all components and are waiting for testing. I wouldn't doubt it that it shows up in one of the early years shows, be that CES or some other one.

just hope they had the foresight to add and improve upon the existing one some of these features we would like to see in it.
