Where can i buy Archos 101? In the UK

There are loads for under that price, any worth buying though? That is the question.

Do you currently have an Android phone? Which one?

The only Tablets worth buying at the moment, in my opinion, is the Advent Vega and the Archos 101 (or 70 - a 7" version). There are a load of other tablets (or e-books out there) but few will support any future Android updates (if at all, especially the chinese copies).

There is of course, if your feeling brave, the xda forums, but how much support these tablets will get on there? You maybe on your own rooting and flashing. And if you don't know what those mean, then you may get lost pretty quickly.

But I would say, wait till after Xmas (unless you are absolutely desperate). In the new year, more details will come out for better tablets (when Android officially supports them), people like ACER, HTC, and a new Samsung will no doubt be out.

As for getting hold of an Archos 101/70 or a Advent Vega? Just keep checking Currys/Dixons/PC World, and Archos.com.

If you want a basic tablet for some browsing, emailing, and maybe e-book reading, then you can pick up something decent for that price. But if you want a big version of your phone, then it is probably worth waiting.

I opted for the Archos 101, just because I found it cheaper. But it quickly sold out, and now they have no stock, and wont have till the new year. It was a bit of an impulse buy to be honest, so I am not overly concerned. The price was what attracted me to it.

Judging on reviews, there is very little between them. In terms of spec, both are similar (overall), and both will be supported with future updates I am sure. I would say, whichever you can get your hands on (if you really want one quick). Both are the "best" available in the UK at the moment.

What phone do you have by the way?

I am a bit of an impulse buyer myself (you sound the same). But my honest opinion is, unless you find a Vega or a Archos, I would wait. They will certainly tick you over until something better comes out in the new year. But then again, if you wait for then next best thing, you will be waiting forever!

Here is a good price for the Galaxy Tab - Galaxy 7 Inch Tablet Pc Android 2.2 (2010): technology: hmv.com

If you don't mind the 7" screen (which the Tab is) then an Archos 70 could be a good choice - ARCHOS says avaialble mid December.

Yes i'm an awful impulse buyer lol and that's the cheapest Samsung Galaxy Tab i've seen so far! Didn't even know HMV sold tabs. Currently, I cannot afford the tab (until next year). Honestly I don't mind a 7" screen, that's what the Galaxy Tab is currently, right? From the image, Archos looks more like a mobile, which disappoints me.

I'm torn between what i want.

The Galaxy tab is a 7" screen, yes. It looks great too. The Archos is of course not as good looking, it is cheaper at the end of the day, but this video (while pretty amateur) does show that the dimensions are very similar.

I am not really helping I know, I am sure you have done all this research yourself (as I have!) but the simple answer I would give is this. If you really want one now, get the Archos or Advent Vega (whichever comes in stock first!)

No you really are helping LOL, I've been researching all different types of tabs for months now and the Samsung Galaxy Tab & Archos 70 are the most appealing. Now I've never used android before (apple guy lol) so could i make the archos screen look like the samsung screen as seen in the video you posted? (which I'm watching right now) or are you stuck with the current design/theme? (I mean on screen, re-arranging apps, changing background, moving widgets and so on!)

From the video, it seems the Samsung wins at everything when the tabs are compared. Archos seems slightly buggy and looks laggy. Then again it is cheaper, while I don't see the samsung going down in price I'd prefer it so much more. The Samsung also seems to respond faster, maybe his Archos was just lagging, I really don't know.

So I'm still torn, it really does seem there are no good cheap tablets out there.

Unfortunatley you are right, the options with budget tabs is limited. The problem is not really the spec of the device, it is the Android System. It isn't designed for tablets (and larger screens) yet. This will come in the new year, and some of the big(ger) players will come in the mix too. The likes of Acer, HTC, and many more will be bringing out new Tablets.

the difference in price isn't really that much between the two, and after Xmas, I am sure the Galaxy tab will reduce again (maybe sub

I bought 1 from microanvika.com after trying to order form 4 different suppliers who said they would have stock in next few days then kept moving dates back, Microanvika where the only supplier to have stock and where excellent in their service provided. I have to rate microanvika as 5 star for their service:)
