Motorola Droid Bionic - Replacing Droid X?!?!

why oh why would you ditch the Evo for a locked down Moto device?

Love the Evo (except for the color quality on the screen), but hate Sprint. I have "horrible" at best coverage at my home and office, and am tired of having to go out on my deck when I want to make calls. Sprint's customer service has been an absolute joke also. Will I miss the montly cost of Sprint- NO! The horrible coverage and service, yes.

I wish HTC had a device that was even close to the Bionic- I'd much rather have another HTC, but this one is looking pretty good at this point in the game. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Looks good, but I may have to skip this generation and wait for the next. I just bought the X 2 months ago, along with the car dock and home dock, both of which I would have to replace with a new phone.

Besides, there isnt one thing that has really made me wish for anything more out of my phone. It has enough HP under the hood for any game out as of now, and I actually think its better looking than the new phone.

This really reminds me of the mid 90's when Moores Law was in full effect, and the MHz (yes, still MHz back then, lol) race was getting notched up every few months, if not weeks, and as incremental as it was, going from a 200MHz Pentium to a 200MHz Pentium with MMX was a very big deal!

Until a few months later when the Pentium 2 came out at 266 MHz.

With high end smart phones like this one coming out, I have to wonder what RIM (BlackBerry) is planning in order to survive... Surely, BlackBerry users are seeing these high end, super fast devices launch and wanting more out of their phone...

You know, I was just thinking the same thing. Are they even at CES? I know they are releasing their "Playbook" or what ever it is called. I have an 8330 Curve that is hitting the ditch for the first available LTE device.

Ahhh, Ok. I didn't see that on either Engadget or the Bionic page on Motor's website.

if you watched the live webcast slides on engadget they said Q2 at the presentation.

I have an X, did the 2yr upgrade when it came out, but i'm not 100% sold on this phone yet. Don't get me wrong it does look nice but...
1. i need more info
2. i'd like to see someone have some hand time with it
3. it's the first generation of 4g for a company(moto) and there are bound to be release issues.

Rim will still survive soley because of Corp America especially Gov or any DoD related companies. ...however they won't be anywhere near the top like Android and Apple.

1. BB's are a lot more secure
2. they have $hitty games which equal less playing around on your phone all day
3. How many awesome cool android or apple phones have you seen without a camera? Try getting one of those into a secure location. I think this is the one and only reason Rim produces versions of the bold without a camera.

Yeah, I am a little scared because of the locked bootloader of a Moto. I have been a long time HTC user and have always rooted. So updates wasn't an issue. I am going to be interested in what LG and Sammy have to offer tomorrow.

you sound like everyone else when the Droid X was about to be released.."oh it will never be rooted, it will never be able to be themed, we'll never be able to use custom Roms"....have faith man. There are people out there already drooling at getting their hands on this so they can say they cracked it first. It will happen.

I don't think anyone is worried about just getting it rooted, everyone is worried about the locked bootloader. That is the big problem. Also while the X can run custom roms it isn't the same as the Incredible.

Also it cannot run custom kernals yet either I believe.

I don't understand the problem. I have a rooted X right now, running a rom, and I've applied themes, and even used the 3G Hotspot hack. What else do you need?

One thing if I am not mistaken is you can never run a true AOSP ROM, also you most likely won't ever get a cyanogen rom either. I guess for most it won't matter.

Also flashing different kernals can overclock and undervolt battery if you want. I know the Droid X can now overclock but it is a little different.

+1 like this guy said what more do you really want? I mean how much more is the use of a custom kernal going to give you over a custom RoM. I'm sure there are a few advantages but not to the point of where people should be jumping ship and bashing Motorola because of the locked bootloader. I would almost bet some people just hear the words "locked bootloader" and automatically think " well pi$$ i'm not using moto"...but really not knowing exactly what it means.

cyanogen rom ? I don't care about it being cyanogen. There are great roms and themes out there for the Droid X right now.
