Save money with Big Red! Unlimited Data Price Drop!

Hey Chief, I'm interested in your plan of only signing one year contracts. Does this cost more per month, or is it just the cost of the phone that increases?

I have to agree with SinfulDragon; I didn't claim to receive any email, just said I saw the promo online and was upgraded with a one year contract extension no questions asked.

The phone price increases by $50 - $100 up front, no increase in the actual monthly plan. I would rather pay that much up front than have to pay FULL RETAIL on a newer phone later... or wait until my phone is hopelessly obsolete to upgrade.

Not that the Droid is obsolete, not by a long shot. But we're talking principles, here. :)

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up :) I just called and my bill went from over 100 a month to the 69 a month (I also dropped vcast). Also, this gives you 5 "friend & family" unlimited numbers to call, which is a feature I wasn't using previously.

I had the 79.99 plan with 900 minutes, unlimited texting, 5 friends and family... plus the data plan at 29.99...

When I called I realized if I downgraded to the 450 minute plan I would lose the friends and family (so i was told) which in turn I know I would go over my 450 minutes.. but she did something where I wont lose any feature and it still took 19$ off my monthly bill...

Are you saying that with this 69.99 unlimited plan and 450 minutes we still get to keep friends and family?

That's what I got out of it. I'd never had friends and family and the guy told me I'd get it with this new package. I was able to go in my account and set up my 5 numbers afterwards.

I have a 1400-minute family plan with 2 smartphones and saved $40 a month on my bill!

New Unlimited Plan from Big Red? - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

Call them, run the numbers, and see what YOU save: LIMITED time offer! My contract extended a whopping 60 days with this plan! :D

Thank you, sir! Kinda forgot about this for a couple days, but I called today and everything went through without a hitch. The rep just had me read the promotion, then he compared my current bill to what it would become and I'm saving at least $50 a month (1400 min family plan, 5 lines, 3 of which are smartphones). As I can't thank you enough, I figured I'd just thank you for every post you made here.

@Yankke - here is the deal.

It costs $129.99 for the 1400 minutes. Each phone that gets unlimited data + unlimited text is $10. Each additional line is $19.99.

In your case, if all 5 phones have text and data, then that is $50 and the 3 additional lines is $59.97

$129.99
$50.00
$59.97
______
$239.96

If you get a corp discount (they're saying it is 15%) then it applies to the $129.99 only. That equates to $19.50 so your final price would be $220.46

If you're paying less than that it is simply not worth it.

The advertisement says that it is $139.99 for the family plan plus unlimited text and data, but the CSR on the phone told me that that is for a single phone, 2 lines - the second phone adds an additional $10, so if you only have the 2 phones it becomes $149.99

Also, even if you 'save' the money on the data plans, if you have additional lines, they've been bumped up from $9.99 per line to $19.99 per line, so that kinda offsets the data prices.

HTH

Thanks for putting that into English for me. The family plan for 1400 mins was $139.99, which is what I was paying before hand. Where I saved was the data, which now everyone on my plan has unlimited (beforehand, only the 3 smartphones had). Basically, before insurance and taxes my bill was about $250 and will now be about $200. I have a 19% discount (I think it's an emergency service and military discount), so that should take it down to about $175.

I'm figuring that'll put my actual bill around $230 give or take $5. That's already less than when I had just the one smartphone on there. So awesome.

Oh, I did forget to mention that I had to extend my contract one year from today's date. I'm fine with that, really. It does NOT affect any phone upgrades. So I still get my Droid Bionic when it drops. lol

Also, in case anyone was wondering, the two dumbphones on my plan are eligible for upgrade. One of which is my step-father, who as far as he is concerned will never need another phone because he doesn't want to learn how to use a new one. I asked the rep who said that I can apply his upgrade to my line. That should help as that line should be the one last NE2, so I'm hoping a get some extra bucks taken off. Not to mention as it's already over 24 months, I won't have to use my early upgrade in July and the extra $20 it takes to do that.

EDIT: Oh, I did want to add one last thing. In making small talk while things were being figured out we were talking about the two current upgrades I had and mentioned some of the new phones that were coming out. First he brought up the iPhone which I was like, "Nah, I'm all Android all the way." Then we talked about the Bionic and he was rather well informed about it, as he plans on getting that himself. He asked what I currently had, told him the Droid, and how I just loved that thing. He affirmed my love for it, saying how "upgradeable" it is, and without saying the word, we were talking about rooting (especially when the term "locked bootloader" came into convo). I just thought that was special and share that.

Yeah man, it's been an odyssey you and me, from the glory days of 2008 I think! I'm not sure about the Bionic and Motorola's insistence on encrypting their bootloaders. The Jury's still out on the new LG Tegra2 superphone, and I'm still shopping around. Whatever phone I get will have to be just as versatile as the Droid (GPS, deskclock, etc.) or I'm camping out right where I am. :)

Called the other day about this plan and a nice girl on the phone hooked me up.

Current Plan: 1400 Family Share Plan + Unlimited Texting
Line 1: $110 --> 20% corporate discount = $88
Line 2: $9.99
Line 3: $9.99
Line 4: $9.99 + $29.99 Smartphone Data plan = $39.98
Line 5: $9.99
TOTAL: $158.00 approximately

New Plan: 1400 Smartphone Talk and Text (Smartphones Talk Free too)
Line 1 & Line 2: $139.99 --> 20% corporate discount = $112
Line 3: $19.99
Line 4: $19.99
Line 5: $19.99
TOTAL: $172.00 approximately
*With some adjustment (I don't know how) they got it down to $158.00 which is the same as I am paying right now...WOW*

So for the same price per month, I got data on ALL lines instead of one.
Also I had three upgrades available and they pushed one line upgrade up so I got 4 new phones for this data super PLAN.

2x Blackberry Curve 3G in Fuchsia Pink for Ladies of the House
(BOGO: $50 for one and got second one for free PLUS they let me use the primary line's NE2 so it was FREE for both)

2x Droid 2 Globals one in Blue and White for the two men of the House!
(BOGO: $200 for one and got second one free)

And of course I'll be keeping my Droid X.

Not bad not bad Verizon! They sure treat their customers well via the Loyalty Department! The girl said to be at the end:

"Sir you are a very loyal customer and we appreciate it so much. It says here you were with us since 2008 and we love doing business with you."

2 years isn't even a lot and they treat their customers SO WELL! I wonder what the loyalty treatment is for those with them for 10 years!

Just got off the phone with Verizon, and they put a $20/mo credit for each of my lines to pay for all but $9.99 of my data plans. Apparently, I was already paying the $139.99 + $19.99 for the extra line. Not to mention 2x $29.99 for the data plans.

So basically, I am going to save $40/mo, along with my corp discount of 24%

Well, my girlfriend is on the phone with Verizon right now - she currently has a T-mobile android phone, but gets ZERO service at her house, and T-Mob's not helping so she's getting out of it. Called the number, asked for the promotion and, no questions asked, they're giving her the promotion pricing... as a new customer! And they're going to send her the phone - an Incredible :)
