I enjoy root, but am encountering different issues. I am having problems with the camcorder not working right & as a ham radio operator, can't get the echolink app to work on root. I love the fact that I can overclock, theme and rom, but at the same time, it is messing with the functionability of the phone.....I haven't been back to stock in sometime, and hate not being able to customize my phone, but at the same time, I want my phone to be functional....should I go ahead and revert back to stock or wait & hope a full GB rom comes that fixes all of these issues?

Plus I have been hearing that the D1 is capable of running GB in an OTA update (likely be last OS upgrade for D1) and there may be one possibly coming sometime this year.

With all the roms out there I am sure you can find one that fits your needs. Going back to stock will never be an option for me.
+1 ^^^ this. In fact, I'll go one further. Change from your UD rom. Try CyanogenMod. He's been building Android ROM's for a long, long, long, long time now and even some of his mods are making it into the main android tree . . . I'm on a CM rom and my camcorder works just fine, and I'm technically using a nightly!

good luck

p.s. And my short answer to your actual question = no.

I can't imagine that root access alone is messing with your Echolink app. It's simply the ability to access the system files. I would suspect another app before I would suspect Superuser.

You could always make a backup, revert to stock to see if it helps... if it doesn't, re-root, flash Clockwork and restore your backup.

I for one have no desire or intention of returning to stock. Maybe not even to sell it (if it ever comes to that). Good Luck! :)

+ 3?!?!

either way it's like modding your car to your liking, your style then demodding it just cause. you'll miss the speed, the handling, the look, the sound system and everything else it doesn't have anymore.

I have 2 friends and 1 co-worker with stock D1s. (None of them want to take the plunge...)

Every once in a while I will ask one of them if I can check something on their phone.
That always reminds me just how much

a stock D1 is.

No, stock is not for me any more...

I have no issues with the video recorder on LFY. What issues do you have?

No. I have have gone back and factory reset the phone, and wiped the sd card (after saving what I needed on my computer) and started fresh a couple of times when I felt all my roms were runnning buggy. Too much flashing in my opinion just seems to gum things up for me. I love running custom roms just to see what they are like but to tell you the truth I prefer a vanilla FRG83 overclocked to 1000 in interactive mode with the min set at 250. I can just delete the bloat off of the rom with tibu. Great battery life and faster than anything else I have found out there (on the 3g market).

I've thought about it, but then I pull the covers up and go back to sleep. ;)

Recently I have been having problems with GPS accuracy. I have had similar thoughts, but since I agree with most responses about the multitude of limitations with stock, I think I will just play with other ROMs until I find one that works.

My suggestion would be to look at older (read: more stable) ROMs. If you're considering stock, perhaps you should first use an original froyo ROM without Gingerbread parts or custom hacks. This path would potentially give you the best of both worlds.

There's so many ROM options out there, and not all will be the best fit for your particular needs. Nor will it necessarily work on your Droid the way it does on mine and the next guy's. Play around and experiment.

To be honest, it seems to be my Droid acts up on me at the most inopportune times. It's always a direct result of flashing a new ROM. Too many times I've flashed in a hurry, walked out the door before I got done setting everything up, and I get all pissy. But it's my own fault, not the rooted Droid's.

I could never go back, though. The performance I've gained I could never give back. And I enjoy the freedom to customize the phone as I see fit too much.

I will be the sole dissenting opinion, I guess. I went back to stock on my droid 1 because my company's policy is "no rooted phones" if you want to access corporate email. It was a tough call, and I still regret it sometimes, but having this email on my phone seems to be the better choice. I might be back to rooting, but for right now here's where I'm at. It's been over a month.

What I Miss: I miss overclocking, which really does make the phone better. Also, the phone really needs the local.prop hack to work well for me, so I miss that. I got hooked on MIUI and customizing the OS, and I liked that updates come out every couple weeks that can completely overhaul the look of the phone.

What's Better: My bluetooth works all the time now in my car. For some reason, it would fail to sync when it was rooted, and the only way to fix it was to restart the car. I already said I like my work email. I like not having to rebuild and backup and my phone all the time. I'm not spending too much time on it now... it just works.

So, do what you want. I hope that helps somebody.

In answer to the OP:

Hell NO!!!

In answer to clintiepoo - I respect your decision, and it is a valid point- sometimes the circumstances are beyond our control.

However, having BT issues when rooted was not because of rooting in and of itself - I have been rooted for just about one year now (I can't remember the exact date, but it was jan 2010, so...) and I have paired DROID with my computer (although Windows 7 x64 only pairs if the right drivers are installed - otherwise it never will), my old Infiniti, my Motorola MOTOROKR T505, My Motorola MOTOROKOS S9 HD headphones/headset, and my HP Tablet PC. Never had an issue. Not from Eclair through ForYo and now through the early pre-releases of Gingerbread.
