Root Serendipity ROM ? ?

I'm using Cognition 3.04 right now. It's the first rom i've flashed and I love it. But after seeing the Serendipity 4.3 rom, I can't decide if I want to flash it or not. The main reason I want it is because I love the gingerbread theme and notification pull down menu. The only reason I'm hesitant to flash it is because it uses an i9000 source for the rom and cognition uses the roger's Captivate for a source so it's supposedly more stable. The only thing that pushed me to finally flash a rom in the first place was the use of the Rogers Captivate Froyo in the Cognition rom. What to do, what to do...

How stable is Serendipity 4.3 vs Cognition 3.04? Should I not be worried?

It has been absolutely stable for me. I was on Assonance first, then I went to Serendipity. Mike is a great, dedicated developer who attends to anything that might come up - so far for me nothing has come up! I'm very pleased with his ROMs.

What exactly does cognition bring to the table compared to other roms? Imo its the most feature less rom out there, its kernel is empty and its theme is bland and boring.
It's supposed to be just a stable basic rom I think which is why dg uses the rodgers captivate for the source. And with tethering and froyo it's automatically better than stock.

You can do anything you want to Cognition, I have my own boot animations and flashed the dark soul theme over top, running Adw all custom launchers voodoo comes with it, my phone looks as slick as Assonance and Serendipidity. What's it lacking? Plus its built on a official.

It's lacking Bluetooth voice dialing. For some, Bluetooth voice dialing is not a big deal, that's why there is more than one ROM. My phone stays in my pocket and I drive a manual transmission, so it's a convenience I feel I can't give up.

If you had a choice between a basic corvette and the 630hp zr1 corvette, would you still pick the basic one if they were both the same price? No point going with basic roms when there are more feature packed ones out there.

If you like choice in a rom look into the rom kitchen. You can build your own rom to your liking, nothing beats it imo.

I flashed to Serpendipity yesterday and I have had a ton of problems! It keeps freezing. Things arent staying when I reboot it either. Any guesses?
You may have had a bad flash. Did you follow directions precisely, Odin back to stock (if you weren't on stock already), master clear, root, etc.? There are very clear instructions here, along with videos. Use the programs provided in the first post of the Serendipity thread (for Odin and the One Click Root/Unroot programs). Redownload the most current version and try it again. It happens, and it's easily rectified by following the directions and reflashing.

OK since I posted this I have had serendipity 4.3 on my captivate and its AWESOME, completely stable, faster than stock, better than actual gingerbread and almost makes me want to keep my captivate!
Awesome! Now get brave and flash the SpeedMon kernel (download link at bottom of first post, flash it through the recovery menu, couldn't be easier), the battery life is great with it, and if you're into music, it has the latest Voodoo sound stuff - I don't know much about that part, however, as I don't use my phone for music.

Any more info on the ROM Kitchen? I checked it out, but it is waaayyyy above my knowledge right now! Do I just need to research each individual item on XDA or here to learn what they all are and which one I would like better? It may be something for me to mess around with if someone can provide a little bit of guidance!

You're not understanding my point....

Anyway I flashed serendipity 4.3 and got the known bug where the launcher freezes at first boot. See what I mean? It doesn't have the same stability as cognition. Anyway...no big deal and I continue to use the phone. Then I find out websites that use flash freeze. I update Adobe flash player and they stop, no big deal. I continue using the phone and I get completely random freezes that require a battery pull. I ended up flashing back to cognition which has been working perfectly. I flashed step by step according to what everyone recommends which includes flashing back to stock with odin and doing a master clear, so I know it wasn't me who did anything wrong. If anything I could've reflashed serendipity and it would've worked itself out and everything would've been fine. But after reading on the xda forums that people were getting fc with incoming calls, I decided not to bother, I love modding and such, but when it comes to my phone, certain things just need to work. Now that serendipity 5.0 is out, I may consider trying it out again since many of these issues were addressed.

I just flashed serendipity 5.2 and i'd have to say I'd prefer it over cog 3.4. I had about 12 hours battery life on about 1 hour of wifi and the rest just standby. With serendipity, my battery life is much higher. Can put a number on it yet, but the battery isn't draining from standby.

Sighs, 2 days after 5.2 was released; 5.3 is out =.=
