HTC Inspire Battery Experiences...

@Blanco720, I feel you on this. But, I will say this, as a gadget lover, I don't see why when I buy a new device I have to go through the motions of either conditioning a battery, or even more drastic, 'turning' off certain options to just get 10-12 hours of use...

In addition, I hate that the manufactures state things like, "standby 5-7 days", and stuff like that. It drives me mad, especially when you get the device and can't even use it for a full solid day...

those time frames are based on an average user cycle that is established in the industry. The average user doesnt use the phone every second like we do. Also why does it bother you to condition your battery? When you purchase a new car you have to break it in, so the mpg/brakes get the best use. so why should it be different with a phone and a battery? The problem is we as a people are to damn lazy to do what we have to. We just want everything done for us and this is why we have become such a disposable society

Here's my battery tale: I charged my battery until 4pm yesterday. I've been listening to (cached) Slacker all morning, looking at my Twitter feeds, checking emails. I'm more than 18 hours into my charge with moderate usage and I'm at 56%.

I don't use Juice Defender. I don't run a task killer (it's not needed). Other than cycling the battery 3x the first three charges, I haven't done squat to "train" it. :)

What do you mean by cycling the battery 3x?

Ok, so I'm going to rant for just one second...please bear with me.

I have almost completely stopped coming to this forum. Why? Because every day we have 2-3 battery threads that constantly are being bumped. I don't care to read about the battery on this phone anymore. It's getting utterly ridiculous. People, you cant just plug your phone in and expect it to last 3 days. You have to condition it, and take steps to increase the life from a charge.

You don't hop into your car on a cold morning and drive it ala NASCAR. You have to let it warm up. You have to change the oil and not let the fuel tank run dry. You HAVE TO TAKE STEPS to increase the life of a car. Preventative maintenance, etc. Why should your phone be any different. There is TONS of information on how to ensure your phone lasts a long time and there are PLENTY of people on this forum who have posted stating that they are not having ANY ISSUES WHATSOEVER with the battery on this phone.

I have to think people are either not paying attention and killing tasks/not conditioning the battery OR they have a bad battery. Its not a difficult task to complete a few easy steps in order to prevent these issues. Please, educate yourselves and employ these tactics in order to fully enjoy your phones!

OH i dont know about all that.....i literally almost set my tires on fire just exiting the parking lot when my car was brand new....she runs great and just begs for more.... (evil laugh).

Joking aside...what you say is true....to a point.

I agree 100 % with _every point_ you've articulated so well.

Thank you for this brilliant post.

There is a level of personal responsibility we have as individuals to educate ourselves.

Those who choose to act like experts passing judgement without a clue about what they are talking about, may fool & mislead some. The rest of us can see right through you.

Personally, I find this an excellent forum with tips, advice, and guidance that is priceless.

Initially, I was worried about battery life being an issue. I "geek" on my phone constantly; show it off, look up random things on the internet, pay bills, view bills, change settings, watch videos, etc... I have had no problems with battery life whatsoever. I have had the phone for a week, I did condition the battery, it does make a difference, trust me. Battery life on this phone is way better than the captivate, which has a 1500mAh battery. Same user, same usage.

I ran mine down on the out of the box charge, then to full ran down to shut off again. Then full, and mine seems to be ok. But I'm not to worried about battery, I don't live in Amish land and I have access to a wall outlet or a computer use port so if it does start to die I can charge it, wonders if modern society. LOL!

Got my phone Sunday afternoon. Ran it til it was dead that night. Charged overnight, ran it to nearly dead by Monday night. Charged overnight Monday. Took it off at 10:15 a.m., didn't get it to the charger until 3:30 a.m. and it was still at 49%! I'd say I'm going to get through a day with no problem, but just in case, I've ordered a car charger.

Btw, since this is my first post after getting this phone, I have to say I'm loving it!

Well I'm hoping I get better life out of this one. Maybe Andrea you could compile a quick step by step process on how you conditioned your battery.

Ok first day used it to less than 5% then charged it to 100% while on. Then drained it to less than 10% and shut it off and chafed overnight. In the am I turned it on and left it on the charger while on for an additional hour and a half.

Since then I let it go to 20% shut it of at night and charge till am. I awaken turn it on and leave on the charger till I leave ( about an hour and a half )

I do not let it get under 20% anymore and I am usually no where near at the end of the night

So I always shut the phone off at night and turn it on while on charge now for an hour and a half.

I don't get less than 15 hours my battery life rocks

hmm, I wonder what is up with my setup/battery, I'm geting about 9 hours. I don't want to blame the battery...I really like this phone but it's causing me some grief :/

I have all Accounts and Sync unchecked as well as Auto-Sync. I don't email a lot so I don't need push. Facebook is not set to push either I don't think.

Screen brightness is literally all the way down, no auto brightness. No active widgets except the Favorite People one to call my family quickly.

I drained the initial charge, and usually dip it to 10% before I charge it. Does turning it off really extend it that much?

On a typical day, maybe 15-20 minutes of surfing the web, no emails, maybe 150 texts, check my FB maybe a dozen times, maybe 30 minutes of phone calls, I'd say the most draining thing is I use it to play music too for about an hour between all my classes. But no EQs or anything

I find lowering the.settings don't make things better but actually make it worse

hmm, I understand where that could make sense...it's already optimized out of the box...

I'll try an experiment: Tonight, I'll turn my phone off while I charge it. Do normal stuff tomorrow and log time and percentage. Saturday, I'll turn everything back to stock settings and do the same (though I may wait till Monday since I use my phone heavier on non-school days, got to keep the variables down!)
