Handcent.....worth it ????

I really want something that allows me to correct errors after I notice them. I find it almost impossible to get the cursor where I want it - I think it's probably an HTC problem (that stupid cut/paste screen when you touch the screen) and that no app is going to overcome that.

I just want something with decently spaced keys - I've got pretty small fingers but still manage to hit the wrong key more than 50% of the time.

Also looking for something with a good predictive text which will allow me to switch languages easily (English/French). Am I asking the impossible?

Try Ultra Keyboard, loads of custom options including swype style input, arrow keys to move around your text and the option to change key sizes. I highly recommend it.

Have you tried SlideIT? You don't have to worry about pressing wrong keys then. I switched to it about a month ago. It takes a wee while to get used to, i found performed better than Swype. It's harder to text on the move with it though, compared to the standard k9 keyboard, but faster when concentrating.

Would be nice if you could customise the dictionary on SlideIT, as it comes up with some stupid words you'll never use sometimes.

As for typing, well, Swype was fun for a while but nothing beats SwiftKey in my book.

I was really getting into SlideIT and have been using it for several months, but it's grammar was getting on my nerves ('s words etc). I've just downloaded SwiftKey, wow, i'm impressed. It will take a little getting used a type keyboard again and looking at the predictions. So far it's pretty damn good and if it continues to learn, i can see the texts typing themselves. Nice one!

Just installed GO SMS and I like it, made a custom vibrate that's pretty cool and changed the LED colour to blue which looks pretty cool and the LED stays solid rather than slowly blinking which is cool, but tbh the stock messenger isn't that bad, but I don't thing I'm gonna delete this new addition any time soon.

PS. totally unrelated but google maps uses A LOT of space, its not really a constantly running service, would like apps to SD support, my desires space is slowly doing down :(

I like SlideIT, the price pissed me off but it was doing better than Swype after the last beta update. You'd have to create certain words in the dictionary to fix that, it was bothering me a bit but I added them as I went.

Also Handcent is the only SMS app I'll use, the fonts (size) and color setup is perfect the way I set it plus the notifications and custom vibrate pattern works a treat. If you're asking about a free app being worth using, give them a go and see for yourself.

I might have to go back to SlideIT. After having rebooted my phone, it is not recognising Swiftkey, even though it's ticked. I'll play. Anyway, don't wanna hijack this thread.

Definitely staying with handcent for now. It would be perfect it you could get the layout like with stock, where messages are grouped by the day, rather than having a sent date/time every message. Just a nice simple line to seperate would be better.
