Okay...glutton for punishment, so let the games begin. Called bb to see how they are wriggling free from their latest ad this week and had the follwing convos:

me: Is the Verizon t-bolt in stock?

bb girl: No. That phone has been delayed and we don't know when we're getting it at this time.

me: But for two weeks in a row your ad shows it as merchandise that is there for purchase right now.

bb girl: Sir, we have no control over when Motorola releases their phones.

me: That's fine for Motorola, but this phone is from HTC.

bb girl: Oh yeah...I mean HTC.

me: Can I talk to a manager in mobile?

Mgr (in caps because of his authority): Sir, we have no idea when the phone will be here at this time.

me: Yes, and you've said that for several weeks now, so why do you mantain an ad that says come buy it now, not coming soon, or preorder?

Mgr: Those ads are designed months in advance so if Verizon changes things like they have several times now, we don't have time to change the ad.

me: Do you have retractions?

Mgr: Yes, we have them posted in 3 places in the store.

me: What about pricing? Last week it was $249 now it's $299.

Mgr: Yes, that is correct.

me: What price will I pay for the phone when it gets there?

Mgr: Whatever the price says at the time you're here to buy it.

me: How can there be a price change during preorders?

Mgr: There isn't a promised price at preorder. The price point on this particular phone will range anywhere from $199 to $299 week to week.

me: Ummm...yes there is. If someone preordered last week, they would have done so based on $249 and, by the way, free buy back.

Mgr: No one did that. There have been no preorders taken since the pricing began to appear in weekly ads.

me: Wow. What a mess this is becoming for you guys. I know you can't control Verizon release dates, but you ought to get a grip on theses ads and advertised prices. I sure don't get how there can be floating prices for a phone that doesn't even exist...then whatever price is in place when the phone actually lands is my price. It's like playing a shell game.

Mgr: I can give you Verizon's phone number for more information.

me: ooooh....pinch me! Thank you very much and I'll talk to you soon.

I do feel remorseful for the sarcasm. I should probably be nicer there - especially since it sounds like I might be one of the few preorders and they know who I am each time I call. :D

And now maybe people will believe me about the ads being made months ahead of time...

on another note, lets just be hopeful for tomorrow getting a press release from Verizon saying "ThunderBolt striking on March 3rd for $249.99" and blah blah, blah

BMX's word is the best we can go by around here with all the rumors that float around anymore...

Word to the wise - when I spaced signing up for the Evo until two days before launch and they were in short supply, the manager called me and told me specifically that my place in line had been moved up because I was not only a good customer, but also one of the cheerful guys that they loved having in the store. ;)

The competing philosophy is that the squeaky wheel gets the grease - so I don't know, just giving an opinion.

He just wanted to spread the news and cover his back for letting the cat out of the bag early?

Lol!!!!!
I can't take this anymore. It is almost fake, not real, seems too crazy to believe. When my asks me how things are going with "that phone you want" (she asks once in a blue moon since she's getting my Inc) and I tell her the latest, she looks at me like I'm making this stuff up. Haha, this is all too much. Let's hope the person I'm quoting above is right.

New Tweet: @Black_Man_X: Sorry all.. that tweet was meant to be sent via DM.. so ignore it.. not like the device is launching this week or anything #sneaky?

and you can't see the sarcasm in that tweet?

He's covering his tracks so he doesn't get in trouble, his twitter can get him trouble with Verizon most likely since he's a tester for a ton of phones that aren't even released yet.

and on top of that, he said he meant to send that out as a DM= direct message
he put the above on his twitter feed so it wouldn't cause a rukus on Twitter

lol. I agree. I do come off as playful with these folks rather than mean-spirited...promise. I really have had no anger in this whole waiting game. Sometimes aggravation. Sometimes amusement. And when I actually have the t-bolt in my hands, something tells me all will be forgiven! :)

I have lived my life by the philosophy of not biting the hand that feeds me and ignoring that phrase of the good guy always finishes last. Maybe it is just the first grade teacher in me, but I believe in playing nice. And if it doesn't work with the first person you talk to, keep being nice and try another. It hasn't failed me yet.

Nice guys with no initiative finish last. You can get things done without being an asshole, i wish more people knew that.

Here are two of my favorite philosophies:

Since I am an optimistic guy: No one can make me unhappy without my consent (Eleanor Roosevelt).

But since I am actively vs. passively optimistic: The future must be fetched. It is not coming toward us. It is moving away (old zulu saying).

Right now...just want to fetch me a certain cell phone that seems perpetually moving away!! :)
