Ok

its advisable if it has kept your settings and files to do a factory reset so make sure before you do this you have synched your contacts with google

extract the contents of the i7500xxik4.zip to a folder

put device into download mode (VolDown+OK+Power (hold at same time))
connect device and run odin
it should show the device as detected under one of the coms
under options untick "one package", tick "reboot" and tick "protect ops"

press the button that says "ops" and point it to the "orion.ops" file from the folder containing Odin
under the heading of "select images to download"
Click the "Boot" button and point it to the file that says "I7500XXIK4-BOOTLOADER.tar"
Click the "phone" button and point it to "I7500XXIK4-PHONE.tar"
Click the "PDA" button and point it to "I7500XXIK4-PDA.tar"
only do the next if you want the o2uk branded CSC
Click the "CSC" button and point it to "I7500O2UIK5-CSC.tar"
Leave one package alone
Click start and wait for a bit
when completed it will reboot into the device which may take some time as its a new flash

I used this guide last night and it worked well, so thanks. My Galaxy is an unbranded German phone. I skipped the O2 UK CSC. On to the point: what would I have gotten if I'd done that part of the update? Just an O2 splash screen or would there be anything else?

possibly a different background and probably localized software keyboard (other localizations?)
so, nothing really :)

thanks rastaman, i gotta get off my lazy ass to get rid of this ancient g9 :)

just flashed it and had a weird little hickup there
i pressed start in odin and it started doing its magic. once it got to the rebooting part i only got the "samsung galaxy" splash screen without the cylon progress indicator thingy. i waited for a few minutes and nothing happened, the phone was totally unresponsive
so i took the battery out, went in to download mode and odin'ed again, exactly the same as the first time, except now everything went fine...
gave me a bit of a scare, but i'm running k4 :)

now for the dubious settings restoration...

1. Message center is stored on SIM card. You won't need that. As for the settings for MMS/Internet you should write those down form Settings - > Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Or use some backup app from market to save those.

After factory reset you'll need to re-enter your Google credentials and the phone will resync your contacts and emails from the Internet.

2. You can redownload your purchased apps. They will be marked "purchased" instead of showing the price. You may not find all of them in My Downloads, but you can always search for your app in the Market and download it for free, if you've purchased it before.

Fantastic work all. Followed rasta's directions on this page and all worked fine. Just thought I would add another "warning" or pre-step for others wanting to do this...

If you use 3G, before you attempt this, go to APN settings in your network setup and write down all the details about your network/operator. I had to go searching for this and I am still not sure its working properly.

I can log onto the internet and search but I cannot sync or login to google servers "Cant establish a reliable data connection to the server."

I have searched this error and no one can find a root-cause. It happened once before and persaverance prevailed, but 4hrs in and 1000's of login attempts later...still nothing.

hi i am new here and wad trying to flash galexo. after II5 flashing when copying the update.zip the SD kept unmounting. what i did was to unmount the internal SD from system settings and formated it erasing all data. after that the phone wouldn't start and when i try to flash firmware (II5, IK4,IK5 etc) Odin stops at system downloading and even after waiting for 30 mins it stays there. Phone just shoes the downloading screen. PLEASE HELP.
