Root Gingerbread ROMS

check out "dev-roms" at the bottom there's a couple of gingerbread roms. I assume all the gingerbread roms out would be there since it's a pretty dynamic list of all the Evo roms. i was just looking this up too to see where we're at in terms of getting gingerbread on the Evo, but I don't think until HTC releases the OTA update to give us gingerbread any fully functional gingerbread roms will be available.

I used Evervolv before and loved it but GPS didn't work for me and of course neither did 4G. But now Salvage Mod has incorporated 4G into the rom and it's pretty much perfect. Super fast, GPS works, as did pretty much everything else. Only reason that kept me from using it as a daily for more than week was the battery life was pretty shitty, even with Savaged-Zen kernel. Also I missed Sense widgets and Myn's Warm has a lot of eye candy lol.

don't forget Evervolv

[ROM-AOSP][01-29-11] Evervolv | GRH78C/Android 2.3.2 | v1.0.1b3 | KB Dictionary! - xda-developers

He's got a wimax version coming out soon. beta is available in IRC channel. I'm running it now and it works beautifully.
I've been running evervolv as my daily for quite a while, but I cant figure out the IRC thing, what the heck is it? I mean I went there and typed in the /#evervolv or whatever, but like I didnt even know where I was or what I was doing lol... how do I download the wimax beta?

Also Evervolv GPS works perfect if you do the fix, the only thing that I want now is power controlls in the notification bar!

Same here. Evervolv has been my daily since I tried it out about 3 weeks ago. GPS works to 2 meters with the fix for me. Power controls in the bar would make it even better!

I have not tried King's GB yet but I will take a look. I believe this link should take you to a post with the steps to get GPS working again.

In my case, I just made a backup, restored a Mikfroyo backup, did the GPSCLR and restored my Evervolv backup.

this is the best rom database out there. it has most 2.3 roms and many others, also well kept up to date.
WOW! :) Definately a big list. Thank you for posting the link!

While there are certainly many ROMS there, I caution everybody to note that some of them are quite old, (figuratively speaking ;)) (I noticed one from Aug 15!). Be sure to check what software version you are running before flashing any of these roms. With some of them you will need to downgrade your radio, etc.

Example, the current EVO software is 3.70.651.1. If you have this, and flash a rom based on 3.30.651.12 (etc, etc) you will probably have issues. Generally speaking, it is better to stay with a ROM based on your current base software.

And ALWAYS perform a nandroid backup before flashing!

I'm running Evervolv and love it, but the one thing that gets me is that there is not alot of customization options, and not having the power controll toggles in the notification bar kills me everyday! I've thought about trying CM7 or OMFGGB, but not sure, for those of you who have tried both, how does CM7 compare to Evervolv? Is it just as smooth/fast and stable? Everything work? GPS, both cameras, etc?

i heard bad things about the developer of OMFGGB so thats the only reason I havent tried that one, plus it doesnt sound like there is much support for that rom.

Thanks

Power controls in the bar would make it even better!

I've sent him a few tweets on this but it seems that I'm in the minority, you should send him a tweet too and maybe he will do it, I dont understand how people live without power controlls in the drag down bar?? I mean really.

for the time being...until or if it gets implemented, try quick settings from the market it has an option to activate certain toggles from drop down. not quite like Js' or CM but close.

i like it and can be used on sense or aosp.

Thanks I'll take a look, let me ask you this, with Quick settings can I toggle directly from the notification bar?
Because I already downloaded Widgetsoid and I have the toggles in the notification bar, but the only thing it does when you touch it, is make the actual widget pop up on that screen and then you toggle from there. I would like to be able to actually toggle in the notification itself without any pop ups...
It bugs me enough that I am looking at other GB roms just for that one feature, which sux becuase I love Evervolv

yes pulldown bar, hit quick settings, hit on/off whatever you need it can toggle directly or you can hit the name it will take you to its settings. just go to...from the app/menu/preferences/status bar shortcut/add(options)
...and customize to set whichever toggles you want

Sounds like by the end of the month all these gingerbread roms will have 4g and hdmi out. Sounds like a complete rom to me. Who needs to wait for HTC anymore.

around here I must be in the minority since I don't care for the notification power controls. Clutters things up in my opinion. I think Evervolv might end up with an option to enable or disable it in the future. We'll see.
