Best Buy Details

Hey Im a long Time follower here at androidforums and have been following the thunderbolt since it was announced at CES. I guess this is a crappy first post but i figured what the heck. I just called my 3 local Best Buys from Long Island. South Setauket, NY, Patchaugue, NY, and Bay Shore, NY. All 3 WITHOUT hesitation said the Thunderbolt will be released on the 24th. Not maybe or theres a possibility, but it will be released on the 24th. One guy (the South Setauket dude) even went as far to say the ad in the best buy circular was printed far in advance and to ignore it all together. I really was sure the 10th would be the day (mainly because im going to AC that weekend :)) but it really is weird that all 3 said the 24th w/o hesitation. This will definitely be my next phone as i sold my Samsung Fascinate on ebay for this (and im using my gf's crappy old blackberry curve 8530 in the meantime which sucks) and that was 3 weeks ago!!! /Vent lol

I think if i worked at BB i would tell people the 31st since at this rate i would not be surprised. Seems to be the (N + 7) rule now, if its not out on the third itll be out on the 10th, not then ... How bout the 17th? ....24th, 31st? .....booooo. Maybe if i buy an ipad2 then steve jobs would let verizon sell me a thunderbolt early..........

its been reported that alot of third party batteries suck. even the bigger batteries have been tested and had less power than the stock lower power batteries. so personally i wouldnt buy any third party batteries

Yes and no. The smaller batteries 1600-2600mah don't offer anything over in original in most cases. The larger 3500mah do make a significant difference in life. Of course that means a new battery door, and a thicker profile so there are trade offs.

Just saw the circular on Engadget for Best Buy! Has all 3 HTC 4G phones lined up...ranging from the Inspire $99, EVO $199 and ofcourse the Thunderbolt at $299! I want what VZW and Best Buy are smoking if they think the TB should be priced out at $299! Number 1 there are Dual core phones out on other carriers for a $100 less, Number 2 it only has a Super LCD screen....hello its 2011 and Super Amoled plus screens are going to be around really soon. Not to mention Moto has went in a higher resolution direction with they're QHD screens, and here we have a reg SLCD screen phone with a price tag of $299 running Froyo 2.2 and a single core processor!

My question is this, does VZW just not want to sell any of these? I mean come on, Android kept your sales numbers sky high for some time now. All of a sudden You carry the iPhone and you don't need to be price competitive with your Android phones? Keep that POS 32Gig memory card if that's what your basing the extra $100 on. If the word on the street is right, And Sprint is getting a 4G varient of the Nexus on its network with pure Google, I will happily be leaving Big Red and forgetting about any Thunderbolts or Bionics for now!

The LG Voyager was that when it came out too, I think we pay a premium for being early adopters of new technology. The LTE antenna is where the costs make the ThunderBolt more expensive than the Inspire 4G and other phones.

Speaking of expensive :p

I just captured this for the masses, I was TIRED of the low crappy quality version on YouTube

Yea and? My Palm Treo was $299 also on verizon back then! And what does that mean? Phones were more expensive then. Sorry, this thing should not be priced out at $299 with the specs its got on Board....no way! $199 is sufficient.

So go buy yourself an EVO or an Inspire. If you didn't feel it was worth the money, why are you eve here? Sprint and AT&T are willing to take a large loss on the phones to keep people on their networks.

From purchase orders that have been leaked on this page, it appears that the cost of the TB will be in the neighborhood of $560 for Verizon. That means that Verizon will lose $260 per phone. If people are only keeping them for 20 months, then that's $13/month from your bill that is going to just the phone cost. It isn't Verizon that is behind the massive costs, it is that these phones cost as much as a laptop in the first place. Verizon can only subsidize these things so much.

if you don't like the price don't buy it. first 4g phone+32gbsd card+grandfathered in 4g ='s a good deal IMO

keep in mind I don't even have 4g in my area yet, nor is it on the coming soon list. lets say when they do tiered data they have a plan for 10 a month(which we all know they will be more than that) within 10 months that extra 100 bucks on the phone would have paid for itself.

What I was trying to say was that phone back then was the best of the best. This is the best of the best (imo) so your going to pay a premium.

And @ stillgotaneris....why am I here? I been here a while my boy! Ease up on the nonsense gentleman. This is a forum that is based on people and information coming together and chattin it up...So if I have an opinion based on how much the phone is, so be it....I'm not alone in thinking the price is High for a phone of the Thunderbolts stature. Especially when moto, LG, Samsung, and even HTC will be releasing phones very soon that will outdue the TB on a spec sheet.

So are you still going to buy a TB? If so, then it's not too high. My point is that Verizon can charge whatever people are willing to pay. It's only too high once you aren't willing to buy one and it doesn't sound like that's the case.

Once those other phones are actually on the market, I'm sure that the TB will drop in price to match its stature. But, assuming that the TB is released sooner rather than later, it will be the best phone out there at its release and people will pay a premium for it. Just like those phones will be the premium phone until the next one eclipses that one.
