Root recommended kernal

Netarchy kernels are very good Sense Kernels. I have used 4.3.1 cfs-sbc-havs in the past. Some recommend 4.3.2. You can find the list of them here: http://www.qap.la/~netarchy/

4.3.2 I believe is still listed as beta so might have some bugs but I haven't used them yet so not sure.

thank you ill go get it now

NA Kernels 4.3 and up have the camera fix for Evo's w/ newer hardware. So if your Evo is newer, which I'm assuming it is, download versions 4.3 and up (anything under that and your camera may not function properly).

Also, I recommend you try a "more-havs" (more aggressive undervolting) kernel first, if your phone becomes unstable (screen tearing, random reboots, etc.), flash the "less-havs" version of that kernel....Some Evo's are sensitive to a more aggressive undervolting kernel. Although I believe, if I remember correctly, 4.3.1 is for phones that are picky about aggressive undervolting, so you should be good there.

hey everybody was a noob at one point time.

there has been some controversy over whether sbc are good or dangerous. sbc applies a trickle charge to the battery so that you will not have that 10% rapid decrease in battery life when it is off charge. some contend that this trickle charge is not what our batteries are designed for and could cause it to overheat and potential could explode. however, i don't think that anybody has reported that their batteries have exploded or overheat due to sbc kernels.

for me i tend to stay away from them. i have been getting great battery life from the setup in my sig. also ref #3 has all the terms for kernels.

If i have a custom ROM flashed (Kings UNleashed Ultra R2), would I still need Titanium Backup to freeze unwanted apps (Sprint Nascar, Peep, etc.)? Or are they just removed completely from the ROM?

Most custom roms already have the sprint bloatware removed. They usually also include them all in a folder on your sd card if for some reason you want one or two of them back so that they can be easily installed.

You might have a partial wake lock so your phone may not be sleeping. Go to menu>settings>about phone>battery and see if your up time is the same as your awake time.

You can also use Spare Parts to check on your battery usage. Go to basic spare parts settings>battery history and select "partial wake usage" and see what it says.

anytime anyone asks about a kernel for sense we ALWAYS say netarchy, is there actually an alternative to netarchy other than ziggy?

Yes, there are KiNgxKernels which are actually pretty decent. If you'd like to check them out, go here.

EDIT: You know what, I don't see any download links there. Instead, go here if you'd like to try em out.

checked it out frenchy and it all looks good. the uptime and awake time were way off. not sure what to make of it

If your uptime is a lot longer than your awake time, then you don't have a wake lock. If they're somewhat the same or similar, than that can be the problem. Every Evo reacts differently to kernels, so if your phone doesn't agree w/ whatever kernel you're running, try flashing another one.

Also keep in mind that there are other factors that affect battery life outside of just which kernel you're running (screen brightness, auto-syncing, etc...).

yea i know about the brightness and all that stuff. i was actually at work im wondering if maybe it has to do with poor reception while it was in my locker. im home and the battery seems to be fine now.

BINGO, that's it!! I'm sure you know this already but when you're at a location with horrible reception, it causes your battery to drain rapidly. The reason for this is because your phone is constantly searching for a signal.
