Eris update mr2 is official.

New to this. Liking the Eris.

When it says that downloaded apps will be lost, what does that mean? Will I have to rebuy apps that I've paid for? I can redo all the free ones, no problem, but what about the ones that cost something?

How long might we wait, if we just wait for the OTA? A week? Two weeks?

Lots of good info on this forum. Thanks.

Well pretty sure HTC is the manufacturer of the Eris not PCD HTC Mobile Phones - DROID ERIS Verizon - Overview and since it is running the HTC SENSE overlay of android it would have to be since that is proprietary HTC stuff....
To stop any confusion about this post, UTStarcom, htc, and pcd are pretty much interchangeable.
If you go to the www.htc.com website you will find HTC sync and the user manual as the only downloads.

www.pcdphones.com is the only place you will find ANY official updates to the os. If you actually click on this site, you will see that this is true for MANY phones. The Eris is actually pictured on the front page.

Is there an alternate method to installing this update? I'm on a mac... exe installer is no go.
there looks like a mac install file in the zip file. check it out

PCD is sort of a distributor/marketer of mobile phones - they don't build anything, don't design anything, or write any software, either. They are a completely separate company from HTC. My guess is they absorb inventory risks from both the carriers and manufacturers, and make most of their money in a distribution model.

They do have some kind of business relationship with HTC, and a variety of other Asian manufacturers (Pantech, UTStarcom, Amoi, Huawei, Sharp, Casio/Hitachi, Haier) - so it is fair to say that we probably won't be seeing "warez" posted on their download pages.

You are wrong about both, the phone is made by and distributed by HTC and the software is designed by and distributed with HTC phones as proprietary overlay to the android platform and IS NOT exclusive to android phone the "SENSE" overlay is also on the HTC winmo phones and a few others Proof: HTC Mobile Phone Finder - Browse By Carrier, OS, and More ... HTC does provide downloads ( HTC - Developer Center ) but public releases would be pushed OTA through the carriers. If Personal Communications Devices has the software they are simply acting as a mirror / download point it is not theirs!

PCD = UTStarcomm = Audiovox, which are North American subsidiaries/brands of the Taiwanese firm HTC

get the picture, they are all the same! Example: My Verizon XV6700, a PocketPC circa 2005 or 2006, bore the Audiovox branding, but I would download RUU's from UTStarcomm (they branded the Sprint Version), while the device itself was manufactured by HTC under the name Apache PPC6700. Just like one can call the phone reference in this thread a "Verizon Droid Eris with Google" or simply "HTC Desire" or even "PCD 6200". Thats what its under in the VZW retail inventory! Its the same phone, and PCD is legitimate. One must realize the difference between a manufactured name vs. a marketed/branded name. PCD IS HTC.

I was going to wait for the OTA but with news of a *possible* snappier keyboard I'm doing the manual install right now. I'll let everybody know if I think the KB is snappier with 1.17.

Anybody else having an issue with the G Sensor after going to MR2? My phone no longer switches to landscape. I've calibrated the sensor twice now.

Re-flashing with MR2 to see if that fixes the G sensor issue. If not I am going to roll back to MR1 which is available on the website as well.

UPDATE: After re-flashing MR2 the G sensor works fine again.

Anyone have any troubles installing this on a Windows 7 x64 computer? I get a really long error when trying to run the install. I'm assuming it's incompatible with my OS.

I think this may be the new release notes. Looks like they are saying only 1 item was fixed
