Hi guys, I just got my Incredible S yesterday, and I absolutely love this phone!! The only problem so far is the fluctuating signal bars. I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed here, but it seems to me that when I hold the phone...my signal gets weaker. When I put the phone on down..the signal gets stronger. Does a rubber or silicone case help as far as limiting signal interference?

hmm this sounds very similar to my SE W995, that did exactly the same thing and it annoyed me so much, so i got the HTC Desire and thats fine but i have never heard of the IS doing that :/

I noticed that there is some sort of antenna inside the back cover/ battery case. So I'm pretty sure that the signal weakens when I have my hand around the phone (normal hold).

yeah, make sure the back is on 100% properlly and make sure those contacts are touching because they do indeed have something to do with the antenna

The back cover has the contacts for the antenna..Make sure that the back cover is locked tightly...there are 3 lock points ie bottom,left and right where the back cover locks by a clicking sound...

My HTC IS is fluctuating too, but despite the visuals, it does not effect the call quality besides there is something buggy from software side i guess, the advanced app killer is meesing my wifi connection often rendering me unable to connect to any networks, but it gets fixed after restart

I've had my Incredible S for over a week now, so here's my extended review on the reception issue: It appears to me that when I was in an area with strong reception, there was no signal problems. Even when I had my whole palm wrapped around the phone. The bars did not fluctuate, as I had a constant speed of 4.84 Mbps. So it seems that the "death grip" only affects the phone when it's in a weaker 4G area. Signal and speed dramatically differs depending on how the phone is held. The solution to this "death grip" problem is to buy a case "TPU is recommended". The TPU material acts as an insulator, so your hand has a less of a chance to interfere with the reception.

I use a Case Mate Barely There on my IS and the death grip issue seems to be less noticeable, with fewer complete signal dropouts.
