I thought this might be a nice place to discuss nightly builds and kernels.

Note: nightlies are not for people that don't know how to flash to a backup or fix a boot loop. They are not well tested and could cause problems.

I'm running #103 with 6/13 kernel. #105 & #106 had issues with no root, which required flashing a su update file from recovery to restore the missing file. Sounds like that's fixed in #107, but not enough ratings for my taste so guess I'll wait until tomorrow.

Meanwhile there's a 6/18 kernel now with these changes:

The wifi kernel module and firmware found in nightly 106 and 061811 OC kernel should help with wifi connectivity and possibly the SOD related to wifi.

USB host has been added to the OC kernel. This includes drivers for joysticks and gamepads(xbox also). For now you should use verygreen's apps to switch modes. I will be adding this functionality to Nook Tweaks possibly as soon as today.

The 061811 kernel contains a change to the sound driver that may not work out. It will need testing for sure. To test, I would use audio with whatever app you'd normally use and see if there are any trouble in regards to sleep. Its possible that you may loose audio on sleep, especially if the app does not register a proper user space wake lock.

The 061811 kernel also has a fix for the ondemand governors tendency to stay at max OPP.

I've only had one SOD so far. I'll be flashing 6/18 as soon as my battery gets to 100%. :D

I'm not sure about the SD card build, but I use the app Nook Tweaks to set my CPU scaling. Be warned, though, don't check "Set on boot" until you're sure your NC is stable at whatever max speed you set.

I was getting the crappy SD card "infinite force quit error" but after going into ROM Manager and fixing permissions and booting into "regular" recovery and auto-dumping cache it seems to be much better.

I still haven't booted into CWR and messed with advanced cache dumps yet.

Does your option specifically say "13xx" or does it say "1200" and you tested it with some program at 13xx?

I've been running Nightly #108 and Dalingrin's 6/18 kernel for a few days now.

It's been fantastic.

USB host support with this combo blows my mind. I've already played with mounting a few USB thumbsticks, working on a x360 controller. I haven't tried any USB HIDs as my Bluetooth set fills that gap, but the USB mouse and keyboard support is supposed to be great.

I primarily use Pandora these days, and no problems with audio loss while sleeping.

If you're not on nightlies, then you're likely on CM7 stable. If you read Dalingrin's OP ([Kernel][Stock1.2][CM7] Dalingrin's OC kernel [6/18/11] - xda-developers), he says:

* 2.6.32 CM7 builds currently do not work with the stable CM7 builds until CM7.1. You need to use CM nightlies until 7.1 is released.

That means that you need to use nightlies or you need to use the 2.6.29 releases found here (or earlier): Index of /~dalingrin/nook/kernels/042411.

Hi,
I just received my nook color and created CM7 bootable SD card for it. Everything went great then I tried to go further with OC kernel. No matter which version of the Dalingrin kernel's uImage I use, as soon as I replaced my original uImage with OC one and reboot my device, I lost my wifi. I went into Setup and it's showing "wifi error". I'm using CM7 102 nightly and have tried three of the latest OC kernels (6/9, 6/13, 6/18). All have the same wifi issue. Can you please help me out on that? Thank you very much!

I would love some help as well. Tried to download the OC kernel and now my nook wont boot up. How can i restore it to my old settings? Please help
You installed a kernel that is not compatible with your OS. (or, even possibly wiped your boot partition)

Read the guides more carefully, they tell you exactly what you need and how to do it. This happens often when excited folks just jump in.

Is there a guide for dummies anywhere on how to flask a kernel if running CM7 off an sdcard (I used the quinxy/verygreen instructions to make the card)? I gather it's more complicated than on my phone - looks like it involves adb, which I have to admit I've never done.

It's a PITA, or at least it was for me. I just included my kernel on the SD card with the ROM image on that first boot, and it automatically installed it. To flash it in after the SD has been set up, you'll need to get into recovery mode with the correct button combo, which isn't necessarily easy when running off the card (for whatever reason).
