Help No sound at all - Help Please!

I just got done dealing with this same stupid problem. I fixed it, but I'm not quite sure how or why yet.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S SGH-I897, 2.1 Update 1, 2.6.29 jeteak.lee@sep-11 #2, Eclair.UCJH7.

After trying everything mentioned above with no success, I noticed that I could still hear using my hands free earphones. So, I decided to try calling tech support to replace the phone using the headphones. I pushed the button on the headphones (which I hardly ever use) and something really odd happened. Winamp (version 0.9.2) immediately started playing.

This sort of confused me because I had initially thought it was just the normal music system playing, but it wasn't. It was Winamp. I didn't even realise this was a feature of the Winamp software.

I pushed the button again and Winamp stopped playing.

After I did this, the phone's receiver speaker started working again!!!

Again, I have no clue why this worked and I haven't been able to recreate the problem since. I also tried this earlier and it did not work.

This also isn't a knock on Winamp. It could happen in any software I would imagine. My guess is that shoddy programming in Winamp or other software programmatically disabled the speaker somehow. I'm a developer so I'm going to look into what function could cause this to happen and see if I can develop a quick fix for the problem.

Hope this helps!

I have a Samsung SCH-i500 (Galaxy S/Fascinate) and I had the same problem - My sound disappeared, I was unable to hear phone calls and the microphone didn't work. When in a call the speakerphone button was disabled. Evidently the headphone switch inside the jack is sensitive and gets stuck.

I fixed my problem by taking apart a pen and inserting the plastic tube/ ink reservoir thing into the headphone jack. I was able to hit the switch and my sound came back on (don't force anything). I wasn't able to do it with a headphone plug as others have described.

I hope this helps someone so they don't have to replace their phone!

My phone started exhibiting some strange behavior today regarding sound and mic - neither are working (most of the time). If I am receiving a call, the phone will sound the ring, but when I answer it the speaker and mic go dead. If I hit the volume button while the phone is ringing, the speaker also goes dead. When I try to play music, no sound is produced (although if I plug in headphones I find that it is playing). The problem persists after multiple reboots, and the Samsung "song" does play during boot. I'm not sure exactly when this started as it was working fine yesterday.

I've read many forums on this issue and it seems like lots of people are having this problem. To restate the issue: After unplugging the headphones, certain volumes have apparently stopped working such as the call volume, notification, and a few others. The solution is simple: STICKY HEADPHONE JACK PINS!!.

I have had this problem a couple times now and have only very recently figured it out. I've tried everything from the obvious (reboot, battery pull, clearing data, clearing RAM, shutting down all programs, restarting - "Menu/Quit" Pandora) to the advanced (going through test mode to adjust volume)... and nothing.

Then I started messing with the headphones and headphone jack again. I'd put it in and notice the sounds working, so I tried inserting and pulling the headphones over and over and still nothing, then tried it forcefully and still nothing, twisting them out didn't help either. Then finally I wiggled them out making sure to put ample pressure against the side walls of the jack and voila!, I got my sound back! Hope this helps. ;)

My samsung I7500 just developed this issue. Though mine was started differently.

I was making a call on a bluetooth device and the bluetooth headset battery died while making the call. From then neither the speaker or mic has worked.

Exceptions, If I call the phone I hear the ringer, notifications work also like a text.

If I use a headset I can everything.

I've tried so many things I can barely recount them but for the sake of documentation I'll try.

It started while using 1.6.3.4 from GAOSP
I tried reflashing the stock Bell android image. No luck
I tried upgrading to the nightly build of GAOSP no luck
I tried the headphone trick
I tried pairing to the bluetooth and making a call then unpairing. no luck
There were various combinations of the above also.

My phone thinks a headset is plugged in no matter what.

OK so hows this,

Just as many others have experienced it fixed itself. I really didn't do anything that I could point to as to the fixer.

I tried all the tricks like repeatedly inserting a pair of headphones. In the end just using it mysteriously fixed it.

I've read that a lot of samsung phones and devices suffer this bug.

Hi all, im from Malaysia. My english was poor so hope all frens here correct me. :p

I bought Samsung S2 last week. Today i found the same problem like u guys happend.

1. Plug in the Samsung Earphone, everything ok.
2. After unplug the Earphone, everything is DEAD. No any Sound.
3. Reboot the phone and the sound back to normal.
4. But if i try the step 1 and the sound problem is coming again.
5. I try to plug-in and unplug the Earphone few times, but the problem still there.
6. I try the step pressing *#*#0673#*#* to turn on the Sound but it won't work for me. SO BAD.
7. At the end, i found 1 solution. I put in the jack into the phone about half way, and the phone got "Shorted" with key "Return" light on. And the sound was go to normal. :D

Do you guys think i need send back to Samsung or just left it? Now only 1 week, 3 year warranty to go. Thinking to report this case to samsung tech centre and collect all those S2 phone from Malaysia who bought it.

I have the same problem with my Captivate (i897). Also has the same issue with an older samsung. 1st phone, if I blew hard into the headphone jack it would work fine... (like inflating my ex GF)... something inside the headphone jack made the phone switch to "headphone" mode, thus silenting the speaker. Punted that phone for my Captivate. my ORIGINAL captivate would shut off randomly. 3-4 times a day. ZERO apps installed. ATT replaced the phone.
2nd (and current) Captivate, was fine for 10 months, now I get the "no sound from anything media" meaning the ringer will work, but no music player, no game sounds.
To remedy the situation I have to twack or tap the speaker side of the phone (back) near the speaker, against my hand. VERY VERY annoying. but it works for a while after that.
Waiting for decent non samsung android to hit ATT.

I made a login just to thank everyone for the tips. I lost sound today on my GalaxyS, with the same symptoms: it worked fine with a headset. Ultimately, this is what worked:

To remedy the situation I have to twack or tap the speaker side of the phone (back) near the speaker, against my hand.

I assume I've got a loose speaker connection. Next time this happens I'm going a Don't-Pass-Go to ATT and invoking my replacement insurance.

My Captivate has similar problem for about two weeks. I tried everything and finally one thing works: I used compressed air and blow into the headphone jack and the usb charger slot. The sound came back ... I am so happy now :). Thanks for the hints from previous posts.

fyi, I rarely use the headset. Now I seal the headset jack w/ a thin layer of scotch tape!

if its anything like the problem that i am having just simply twisting the phone by holding the device in landscape(left hand holding the ear peice or [top] of the phone right hand holding the mic [bottom] of the phone) with your thumbs pointing up press your right thumb away from you and your left hand towards you. If this does work for you it will only be temporary

Hi, I bought my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 I-777 about a week ago and it was working perfectly until a couple of days ago when it started presenting this same issue. I've read this entire thread and a couple of more and I can't seem to solve the issue. I can't hear the caller although he can hear me during a phone call (Speaker mode works and also works with headsets, but not with the receiver)

I have tried plugging and unplugging headset violently, hard reset, cleaning the headset jack, twisting the phone and all that with no luck.

Does anybody else has an insight on any other issue that may be causing this? The phone is practically new and I'm not sure if I need to take it to repair if it's a software/headset-jack issue that I can fix myself...

Any kind of help would be appreciated

Had same problem after playing music in a loud ambient noise room - had the volume max'ed out with equalizer all way up, bass enhanced, DSP enhanced etc. (gotta love all the tweaks available!) Sound just suddenly quit out of speaker. Rebooted, etc. with no luck ... thought the speaker blew from the all the over enhancements. Figured my own stupid fault by overpowering the speaker. Gave the phone a good whack with my hand and the sound came back :D. Has worked fine since, suspect an iffy connection inside somewhere? Good Luck!

Galaxy S i897 running Cyanogen Mod 7

okay I dont know if u have solved this or not, It was the same problem with me
connect the headset, hear songs, remove it and no sound at all.
The solution is simple, revive the speakers and receiver with the code *#*#0673#*#* and press speaker on, then reciever on and then again speaker on. in an instant every sound is back.
