Someone actually read that thing? I find it a waste of time. Contracts are always written to protect to provider and I assume that they can do whatever they want. And if they do something that I don't like or feel is inappropriate I can safely assume that the contract allows for it. The same lawyers that write this garbage will be consulted before the provider takes any action. So good luck quoting chapter and verse for no apparent reason. Reminds me of the 1960's Laugh In show when Ernestine the operator says "We're the phone company, we can do anything we want".

Of course some people actually read the contracts. Why wouldn't you read it? You're about to enter into a multi-year agreement and if you're responsible it makes sense to be aware of what both sides are bound to. Just because you feel that a contract is written with one party in favor its an excuse to be ignorant to its terms?
Glad that you're getting your free internet service. But you're not even close to reality with your interpretation of the contract.

In Montreal here. No more data. I am waiting on the phone to try and get them to switch my data back on since I run a rooted phone that has already been fixed.
If not, I am looking into terminating my contract with Rogers. Anyone know when the Droid is coming to Telus?

Do you know that they will turn your data back on, ever? I've heard people saying it only takes a call but I believe nothing until proven accurate. Rogers Mary has yet to confirm what happens to the rooters and since she replied to other questions I can only assume that this won't be done by a simple phone call.
I'm on WiFI as I usually am so not in a panic yet and I won't be sitting on a phone queue during my Sunday.
They won't cry much if a few of us freedom lovers jump ship. It isn't like things are any different elsewhere in the market place. But jump I shall if this gets any uglier next week. for now I'm calm.

Gezz People calm down its not like the end of the world cause your DATA is not working.. beside your not paying for it. they are crediting it back to your account. sure its sux's but hey something is being done... They have the right to turn off your data... you signed it in your contract...

I knew this could happen when I rooted my phone I did the update over my root anyway. ... you should already read the Contract before you Sign into it. its your Right!.

Oh, I am calm allright, but since I have to work anyway, i put the phone on speaker while I work. No way I am waiting with the phone stuck to my ear.
I have been waiting for more than 1 1/2 hour now. That is just to speak to technical support. Maybe it's just me, but knowing that Data was being cut off today, I would have put a lot more people on the phone today.
Ok, I just spoke to a tech representative. He told me that Rogers is forcing it's users to update to their firmware. He added that no phone that is not using Roger's firmware will be tolerated on the network. That means that even if I manage to root my phone again, Data will be cut off again.
Rogers just kicked me in the face, then kicked me in the ribs when I was down. Tomorrow morning, I am going to my Rogers store to get my subscription cancelled. This is simply intolerable!

Can Rogers provide a detailed change / feature log of the components introduced as part of this update in addition to the 911 fix and Sense UI.
I've noticed my battery drain quite rapidly and would like to understand the various components which are "NEW" from the previous version which may be causing the drain.
Did Rogers thoroughly test this release before getting it out there. From my experience and looking back historically, I would say NO!
Each update should come with a ChangeLog just like any other software update does. How is this any different?

really? you're mixing several unrelated things here. Don't state the obvious, rooters know what the risks are better than anyone. They already know what support they no longer get. But one isn't like the other, do you think that Dell would phone me on a Friday and say I MUST apply a full copy of a patched Win7 or my internet would stop working? I could say to Dell, no thanks I'm already running Linux and that critical bug doesn't apply. They would say ok, internet back on but we don't support Linux. Fine, I don't need them to support Linux, just the hardware I paid for. (the internet provider won't support my choice of Linux either but will leave me alone to use what I paid for)

So if we run this update there will now be apps we can no longer see that we could before.
And if you have a rooted phone, you will have to unroot your phone to get the update, or give up data. And if you unroot to get the update, you will have to wait until someone cracks this to get to root again.

omg are you kidding? I was going to root my phone since the community provides faster and better support.
Never again will I buy a locked phone. I don't like it when people tell me when, what and how to use my things and if I don't listen they take something away from me until I agree to do as they say.

To be fair, if your phone was running 1.5 before, I don't see how you will "lose" apps on the Market. However, if you had 1.6 before applying the patch, be prepared for a nasty surprise : no more access to any paid app you may have bought, no more running any Android 1.6-only app.
Also, I have read many, many times that you don't have to unroot to apply the patch, but the patch will install a SPL that is, for now, unrootable.
I'll be waiting to see if the Cursorsense ROM is detected as a fixed phone. If it is, I'll install it for a few days, then go back to CM until we get the 2.1 update Rogers promised us.
After such a "below the belt" hit from Rogers, however, I would not be surprised at all if the 2.1 update turned out to be vaporware.
