Respectively no you don't and it has nothing to do with creativity but rather the reality of the legal agreement you've entered into. You insist that Rogers can't update the phone and that you'v read the contract, how do you explain this?
Conflict? You and your buddy got your panties in a knot because you didn't like being called a whiner. If that registers as conflict to you your world must be much more sheltered than mine. Sure I'll get in the last word because I thought you were done with the likes of me? LMAOLet's see, 3rd it 4th person you've had a conflict in the last couple of days, you're allways right, nobody else's opinion matters, name calling and have to get the last word in. Yep a troll!!
Of course some people actually read the contracts. Why wouldn't you read it? You're about to enter into a multi-year agreement and if you're responsible it makes sense to be aware of what both sides are bound to. Just because you feel that a contract is written with one party in favor its an excuse to be ignorant to its terms?Someone actually read that thing? I find it a waste of time. Contracts are always written to protect to provider and I assume that they can do whatever they want. And if they do something that I don't like or feel is inappropriate I can safely assume that the contract allows for it. The same lawyers that write this garbage will be consulted before the provider takes any action. So good luck quoting chapter and verse for no apparent reason. Reminds me of the 1960's Laugh In show when Ernestine the operator says "We're the phone company, we can do anything we want".
Oh joy, just lost my data. WiFI to the rescue. Had better be working tomorrow though.
Glad that you're getting your free internet service. But you're not even close to reality with your interpretation of the contract.Everything you just said there proved my point. Updating is not a requirment for data it is for 911. They have no right to disable data to force an update. Yes they have a right to revoke service but not for not updating like it said its up to you to update. And what i meant was i was screwed over by rogers with my internet and i won against them and now im getting free service for the next 6 months ( Extreme Plus )

And what would I have learned from the contract that would help me today? nada. They are covered. This isn't a car or a house, it is a phone albeit a very expensive phone service. I know what it says and don't need to consult my lawyer or the hillbilly lawyers on the forums. But thanks anyway.
Of course I read the contract before signing but I didn't waste time reading it last night trying to find some clause that Rogers violated. They already did that and made sure.
This is what the contract I read had to say:

In Montreal here. No more data. I am waiting on the phone to try and get them to switch my data back on since I run a rooted phone that has already been fixed.
If not, I am looking into terminating my contract with Rogers. Anyone know when the Droid is coming to Telus?

Do you know that they will turn your data back on, ever? I've heard people saying it only takes a call but I believe nothing until proven accurate. Rogers Mary has yet to confirm what happens to the rooters and since she replied to other questions I can only assume that this won't be done by a simple phone call.
I'm on WiFI as I usually am so not in a panic yet and I won't be sitting on a phone queue during my Sunday.
They won't cry much if a few of us freedom lovers jump ship. It isn't like things are any different elsewhere in the market place. But jump I shall if this gets any uglier next week. for now I'm calm.
24 Jan 2010 13:23:33 Tashi says: Hello Yycken, thank you for choosing Rogers Live Support. My
Name is Tashi, how may I assist you today?
24 Jan 2010 13:24:01 Yycken says: hi there Tashi, I have a couple of questions regarding the recent
upgrade for the HTC dream and magic
24 Jan 2010 13:25:29 Tashi says: what are question you have regarding HTC
24 Jan 2010 13:26:09 Yycken says: There are a number of applications that were previously available
through the android marketplace but since upgrading are no longer visable. I've
done some checking and it would seem to be a fairly common issue for the users
who have upgraded. I've also been in contact with a developer of one of the
applications and their thought it is has to do with how the security profile has been
set up by Rogers. Any thoughts on when this might be corrected?
24 Jan 2010 13:29:08 Tashi says: Any third application rogers doesn't support and roger haven't blocked
any application. The problem has to do with the software upgrade from HTC
24 Jan 2010 13:29:54 Yycken says: Then why is it I can access the application on my Dream which
hasn't been upgraded but not on my Magic which has been?
24 Jan 2010 13:31:57 Tashi says: Give me a moment.
24 Jan 2010 13:32:21 Yycken says: sure thing
24 Jan 2010 13:35:07 Yycken says: For your reference this is the comment from the developer I
contacted "You can pass along that applications in the market that are compatible
with your phone and have the "Copy Protection" flag set by the developer in the
market are not able to be seen on the market or downloaded by your phone. Our
hypothesis is that the patch caused the phones to be seen as
compromised/restricted and they should contact Google Marketplace to get it
updated to legitimize the patch or otherwise resolve the issue with them."
24 Jan 2010 13:35:40 Tashi says: i am having some technical difficulty with my computer, let me transfer
you to another agent.
24 Jan 2010 13:35:54 Yycken says: no problem
24 Jan 2010 13:35:58 Tashi requested consultation with Gilbert with respect to the incident named yycken
24 Jan 2010 13:36:00 Gilbert was added to the incident named Yycken by Tashi
24 Jan 2010 13:36:01 Gilbert has joined the chat session.
24 Jan 2010 13:37:21 Gilbert took ownership of the incident named Yycken from Tashi
24 Jan 2010 13:37:30 Tashi left the incident named Yycken.
24 Jan 2010 13:37:30 Tashi has left the chat session.
24 Jan 2010 13:40:07 Gilbert says: Hello Ken, I apologize for the delay....
24 Jan 2010 13:40:20 Yycken says: not a problem
24 Jan 2010 13:41:05 Gilbert says: I was wondering when did you update your device's software?
24 Jan 2010 13:41:32 Yycken says: I have a magic which I updated friday with the 911 patch and a
dream which hasn't been patched.
24 Jan 2010 13:41:55 Yycken says: the magic is the one that is having the problem accessing the
marketplace
24 Jan 2010 13:42:18 Gilbert says: We will need to redo the update and see if it corrects the issue.
24 Jan 2010 13:43:05 Yycken says: I've done the update twice on friday....has it been changed
24 Jan 2010 13:43:59 Gilbert says: No I was wondering where did you go to get the software update?
24 Jan 2010 13:44:10 Yycken says: www.rogers.com
24 Jan 2010 13:48:02 Gilbert says: That is the correct place. We have not changed or modified the patch
for the device. It is unfortunate that we do not support the connection to the Android
Market.
24 Jan 2010 13:49:58 Yycken says: Is this a perm thing? Or is Rogers planning on fully supporting
the marketplace?
24 Jan 2010 13:51:02 Gilbert says: No unfortunately Rogers has no direct association with the Android
Marketplace. And I am not sure of any future plan with intergrating the service with
Rogers.
24 Jan 2010 13:51:20 Yycken says: OK
24 Jan 2010 13:51:38 Yycken says: Other question if you don't mind has to do with the 911 patch.
24 Jan 2010 13:52:19 Yycken says: I've heard that if the user doesn't upgrade their data services will
be shut off. Is that the case?
24 Jan 2010 13:53:01 Gilbert says: That is correct as we made it a priority to enable the 911 service..
24 Jan 2010 13:53:46 Yycken says: What if the user has "rooted" their phones and is running a
version of the Android OS that was patched outside of the Rogers process?
24 Jan 2010 13:56:07 Gilbert says: There will be a possibility that our network will not recognize the
update and it may not get data service.
24 Jan 2010 13:56:32 Yycken says: Is there a way to override that by contacting either tech support
or customer care?
24 Jan 2010 13:59:21 Gilbert says: I do not believe that it can be overidded as our system monitors all the
device update on a system wide basis and not a case by case...
24 Jan 2010 13:59:39 Yycken says: Alright. I appreciate the information.
24 Jan 2010 13:59:47 Yycken says: Thank you for your time.
How do you know that? wanna bet that new phone of yours?I guarantee you that Bell or TELUS would have told you to pack sand in a similar situation.
really? you're mixing several unrelated things here. Don't state the obvious, rooters know what the risks are better than anyone. They already know what support they no longer get. But one isn't like the other, do you think that Dell would phone me on a Friday and say I MUST apply a full copy of a patched Win7 or my internet would stop working? I could say to Dell, no thanks I'm already running Linux and that critical bug doesn't apply. They would say ok, internet back on but we don't support Linux. Fine, I don't need them to support Linux, just the hardware I paid for. (the internet provider won't support my choice of Linux either but will leave me alone to use what I paid for)Would be no different if you bought a Dell PC loaded with Win7 and then scrubbed the drive and loaded another operating system. If that OS screwed your hardware and you wanted it covered under warranty Dell would be well within their rights to tell you to sod off.
So if we run this update there will now be apps we can no longer see that we could before.
And if you have a rooted phone, you will have to unroot your phone to get the update, or give up data. And if you unroot to get the update, you will have to wait until someone cracks this to get to root again.

Hey All,
Can someone please help me with step by step instructions on how to install the latest ROM on Win7.
I keep getting the Error 170 USB Connection error.
I've more than one USB cable, I've made sure the drivers are installed. I DL'd the Beta Sync from HTC...
I'm looking for step by step instructions...
Please Help! Thanks So Much!
