Swype avail for Eris

I have heard people mention Swype so many times, but have never actually known/seen what it is, so I finally looked it up. It looks interesting, but I don't like how the word doesn't show up until you finish it. I like the Sense keyboard how it guesses what you are typing, displaying it while you type, so you can often just click on the correct word without having to finish it. This works pretty quickly and easily for me. I also like how you don't have to be incredibly accurate with which keys you hit... is Swype the same way?

Of course, I can't compare since I have never tried Swype. I think I'm gonna check it out and see how it works, seems interesting.

For anyone unfamiliar, as I was, here are some nice tutorial videos: YouTube - MySwype's Channel

Lets just say I am not a great speller and this has worked great so far. Very little words I have had to manually spell (old way of doing key by key) and it also works on some cuss words too which is pretty much in all my text to certain friends, lol.

Found this and thought I would pass it along to you guys as this forum has helped me so much I thought I would repay it some how. Hopefully this doesnt violate any rules since im linking to another site, if it does, Im sorry.

1. Visit [link removed] and download the .zip.
2. Change the .zip to .apk
3. Transfer to your Eris via USB
4. Settings -> Application settings -> Check Unknown sources (You all prob have done this before but my n00b friends had not so I thought I would mention it anyways)
5. Use a file manager program such as Astro File Manager and go to the location you stored the .apk
6. Install
7. After install go to Settings -> Locale & Text -> Check Swype
8. Open any email/text client and hold down the text box and you will get a popup asking what you want for input. Select Swype. You only have to do this once and it will do it for all your programs.

I recommend reading the tutorial. Helped me. This is very sick. I now love one handed emailing and texting as its so simple.

ENJOY!:)

I get the following message on my Droid Eris running 1.5

The Swype package you installed does not match the screen size of the device. Please contact Swype about this issue. Screen size:320x480

Did you download the first link you see when you go to the link I posted? You get the message you got when you install the Swype for WVGA devices. Seems you downloaded/installed the wrong one.

The original link you provided also links to this website, where the dev has the file already in APK format.

He also mentions that after installing, make sure to disable audio warnings (Settings -> Locale & Text -> Swype -> Disable Audio Warnings), as leaving them on will cause more problems with the beta.

I've only been playing with Swype for a few minutes now, but it is pretty slick.

There are some known issues with this beta release. Also, I forgot to mention, I would enable Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype

I had this issue too, it'd be really helpful if you added that to the first post as I'm sure almost everyone is going to be asking about it.

Thanks for posting this! I had already given up on trying to find a compatible version.

Didnt want to get in trouble for doing that. So I'll let Caddyman do it since he knows better than me. But ya, this does make more sense. Ill edit my first post as well.

well it is proper e-tiquette to link to the site, where the d/l is, so they get proper credit....

BUT, it seems as though AF is having some troubles with outgoing links....like they are super slow...anyone else getting this? i saw a post in the comments section here and it is acting funny for me.

Then on top of that, that link was to xda, which links to the other site, then you had to find the right link on that page, and it was a tad confusing (no fault of yours, just the way the net works)....

so i simplified it :) ill take the heat.

Okay,

Got it now. Seems I recall clicking the link and it took me to another website. The link now goes directly into download. But yeah, I'm good now. Thanks...
