Help Desire S freezes during Market download

Hi
I have had an HTC desire s on Orange for about 4 months and yesterday when I tried to download an app from the market it froze. After lots of mucking about the only way to unfreeze it was to take the battery out, replace it and get to the market to cancel the download before it froze again.

I have downloaded apps quite a few times with no problem but now I am unable to download or update any (have tried 3g and 2 different WiFi points). There seems to be quite a few posts on this dating back to 2010 but no definitive answers.

I have an @googlemail.com account and have never changed anything.

Please help as this seems to be a major issue on a phone reliant on apps.

Cheers.

Some suggestions...

Try uninstalling the app that froze things.

If you haven't already, try a soft reset. Power down the phone > Remove battery for 30 seconds > Replace and Power on.

You could try clearing the data/cache in Download Manager, Market and MarketUpdater in Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage application > All.

Have you tried installing an app from both 'Market' on your phone and Android Market from a PC?

If you can get hold of the app that's caused the problem as an .apk file, you could try installing it via HTC Sync or with an app like ASTRO File Manager to see if that nudges things.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately i have at one stage tried all these things (now it is working again i am going to install Astro) and also about 10 different fixes from around the web. This seems to a long standing issue with no final fix from Google.

I have found a fix that worked for me which is:

Phone: HTC Desire S
Network: Orange (uk)
Version: 2.3.3

1. Set Airplane mode on
2. Perform all cache clearing below:
>> settings->(applications on desire s then)
