Music albums question

OK complete noob at this

If I copy a complelation album to the SD Card. How do I dispaly the contents of the album and not have a load of individual artists.

If a copy an album by one artist it works ok. I get the album name followed by a list of all the tracks which is what I want from the compelation.

Well, there isn't actually any easy answer to this question, but lats try anyhow:
The ID3 tag in an mp3 file contains two fields with artist info: Artist and Album Artist. On regular albums these two fields would be the same but on compilation albums they should be something like "Artist: [Artist name], Album Artist: Various Artists (or similar)". If your mp3-player reads ID3 tags correctly it should then show "Various Artists" in Album view and "Artist" in song view. But one of the Android players I have tried does this correctly.

IF you want to, you COULD hack it, by changing the Artist field to "Various Artists" on compilation tracks, but be aware that you will no longer be able to see the real artist name then ;-)

Hi,

I have read through 10 pages and this one seemed the best place to put this wothout starting a new thread, hope its ok

I have the hero for a few days and love it, had a few issues that you have helped me solve already so Im hoping you can help with this one.

I just put an mp3 album I downloaded into its own folder in my music folder onto my sd card. I have done this once before with no problems. Only this time , when I disconnected my phone from usb and went into my music, the album I downloaded isnt showing up. I still have the same amount of tracks as I did before the transfer?
I am baffled as to where they might have went to or am I doing something wrong with the 2nd album?
When I explore the sd card while on my computer, the album is visible but just not on my phone

Any help appreciated

a workaround might be to make a playlist with all the variouse artists tracks from the compilation album in it.

sure its a pain in the arse the first time round but ones the playlist is made you can play it like any other single artist abum.

littlemis .. if you reconect the phone to your comp and brouse your sd card is the album there ? if not just try again.. maybr you managed to delete it somehow.

Sorry should have said, the album is by the 1 artist, its not a compilation, does that make a difference, sorry if it sounds like a stupid question :eek:

And if it doesnt make a difference, where would I make the playlist, through the phone? or through the computer?

Any idea why its not showing up on the phone, (for future reference)

Ya, I have connected it 3 times and the album is on the sd card, have played each track and everything is working fine :thinking:

just when I go back into the phone its not there

littlemiss.. is the album in its own folder? i.e the folder is named by the artist and album name? and contains all the individual tracks?

if so is the folder on your phone?

if you dont allready have it get "astro" file manager from the market... it should help you locate your album.

edit... maybe the album thats being so shy to show itself is in a format that the hero dosnt suport, but your computer does.. so the computer ca play the album via its media player but the phone isnt capable of doing the same ..hence it not showing up.

Yep, its in its own folder with its own name and contains all the individual tracks.

I was thinking that about the format but its in mp3 format same as the other 1 :thinking:

Just a complete mystery to be honest.

I will get the astro app now and have a look.

aother posibility is that the album in question has incompleate mp3 info tags.. have you anything new under the unkown artist heading on your phone?

where u look in your player you can look at albums,artists, playlists, genre ...ect

select artist.. and see if any are listed as unknown

edit.. personally i use "meridian" player ... i find it much better and it dosnt mess with your lock screen wallpaper like the standard hero player does.. again its on market for free..

nope wasnt there either

BUT

i put the astro on and it found it :eek:

, its showing the folder and when I click it the songs are there.

The only problem is when I click the music icon in my main menu it still wont list it :thinking:

and it still only shows the same amount of tracks as I had before the transfer, anyway I can get it showing there?

By the way , thanks for the help so far, at leat I now know I wasnt doing anything wrong with the transfer

while in astro select one of the tracks... if its a valid format it will eather play it or say it cant be played.

littlemiss: If you, as you stated, put the album in the root of \Music\ (or in individual subfolders (for example \Artist or \Album) the songs SHOULD show up in the Music Player. When you unmount the SD card and remove the USB connector, the Hero starts reindexing all the tracks on the SD card. Sometimes it takes a few minutes before the newly added songs appear. I have also experienced that I had to exit the Music player and enter it again before the tracks show up. You could try to get another Music Player (like Meridian or TuneWiki) from Market to see if these players can find your songs.

tracks are playing no probs, but the only way I can get to it at the minute is through astro, I will have a proper browse now and see if I can sort it myself
(these things wreck my head and I need to have a go first to see if i can do it, hope that makes sense)

Can I give you a shout at some stage if it stumps me (liking finding it in the first place did)

...and found that, as soon as I powered the phone down, then powered it on again, the new music appeared in the music player.

If you've not done that already it may be worth a try.

Never hurts to reboot your phone. 30 seconds out of your life or 30 minutes typing on here and waiting for responses. I have the same issue with this and images I download to the phone. So a reboot sorts it everytime.
