Official 2.3.4 OTA is released

So I have 2.3.4 and basically hate it. Made my music issues worse, made switching home screens choppy, no charging indicator, not to mention the issues with the camera and video's. I like Blur, but had to resort to using a launcher.

I am actually leary about hoping we get ICS. I just see it as a whole list of new problems.

Did you get it via OTA? Forgive me if I forgot in case you're one of the ones who installed the leak.

I can't make any of those issues happen.. no choppy screen. No sound/media issues. The charging indicator comes on about 10 seconds after plugging it in, I noticed. Camera issues? Sorry, it just works.. lol, as a camera should work: I hit the camera icon on my home screen, the camera opens in about two seconds, I aim and shoot (flash is not needed much as I take a lot of outdoor stuff).

I do wonder about certain apps/widgets some people use which may not play well with certain operating system versions (and that's bad enough). But the stuff you mention is all on "known issues" with the X2 experienced by many users.. but not all, as I can attest to with mine.

I had choppy switching and music issues with 2.3.3, but the official 2.3.4 release fixed them for me... didn't notice camera problems before but have been using it successfully since...charging also seems to work OK. I am not rooted.

I like blur as well but also use a launcher. I wish you could choose how many columns and rows you could have in blur. That is the only reason I use a launcher.

As far as the update, sometimes your phone will still be syncing for up to a day or two later. So that may be the cause of the music issues being worse. With my DX2 it has improved dramatically. Doesn't skip much at all. I would give it time. You can try a battery pull and boot into recovery and wipe your cache. Hopefully your DX2 starts to perform the way mine is.

Just in case you are wondering, I have never rooted my phone.

I always wonder every time an update happens if its mandatory to do a full reset. Its a hell of a lot of work, but often problems linger unless you do it.

No. No factory data reset is necessary.

I think what some users forget, though, is the power of a cache cleaning. I run it twice following any big change I make, including allowing an OTA.

I use this method for the X2:

How to Boot Droid X2 into System Recovery

  1. Power down your Droid X2
  2. Push and hold Power + Volume Down while powering up, until "Fast Boot" appears at the top of the screen, then release both buttons.
  3. Push Volume Down 7 times to scroll to "Android Recovery"
  4. Push Volume Up to select.
  5. Push and hold Volume Up + Volume Down to access the Recovery Menu.
  6. Now simply use the Volume Up and Down buttons to scroll. Use the Power button to execute your selection.

I asked this question to Matt with Motorola on the Motorola Forum before letting the update go through. He said "Do not perform the factory reset prior to update" I listened. Everything works great :) I also did a cache clean after the update like Frisco said. Fingers crossed for ICS :D

Thanks for the compliment, ErisOwner. But I'm sure you'll begin to notice as you spend more time around here that the place is populated by a lot of people with know-how, all willing to offer assistance. :)

I'm asking those who've received the OTA (not installed the leak) how long ago they purchased their X2. I have a suspicion about this being released so slowly, and that suspicion is that only recently purchased X2s are getting the OTA for now.

The X2 has been out since last Spring, and I've yet to see a report anywhere of an older version receiving this 2.3.4 OTA.

So I installed Go Launcher (love infinite home screens), cleared my cache from my apps, reboot and cleared my system cache.. music seemed to play just fine this morning on the way in. About 2 seconds of skipping when I started it, then it played my MP3s just fine for the rest of the drive in. I even skipped a few songs and after 30 minutes not a single pop... so thanks for reminding me Frisco.. you da man

So does anyone know why there is a difference with the PRL number between the leaked and OTA?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the PRL might be different for some based on location. The PRL helps determine which home-network towers to use, and also which towers belonging to other networks to use in roaming situations. When roaming, the PRL may instruct the phone to use the network with the best roaming rate for the carrier, rather than the one with the strongest signal at the moment.

I just got mine, love the screen off animation. Has anyone checked to see if third party launchers actually work now without redrawing every time you go home?

ADW is my favorite launcher. The only annoyance I notice, and this was present prior to the OTA, is when my home key is mapped to show notifications (I keep the notification bar hidden) I have to press it two or three times before it finally draws the notification area down the screen.

I understand ADW and all the launchers, but before the update I would always get a screen redraw when I go back to the home screen, did this update fix this? I have been using the stock blur (which is ok) because of this annoyance.
