so i have international GS2 version running 2.3.4, using opera mobile browser, google voice commands, calendar quick add (voice), gtasks, alarm clock plus

i mostly focused on differences between iphone 4s and galaxy s2:

1- Siri is great for making simple reminders and appointments, but it cannot edit them after created. you have to manually go into the app and edit it. you cannot delete or move them either with Siri. So functionality wise it works just like calendar quick add voice which allows you to make appointments or gtasks with voice. Siri was unable to make a reminder repeat every hour, or make an appointment repeat every hour.

2- The only thing Siri can do beyond voice commands on Android is try and answer a mathematical or scientific question. However when I asked it "Why is the sky blue?" it had no idea. When I did same to Android, it gave me links to the answer. The scope of Siri's answer ability seems limited to just what Wolfram Alpha can do with its website. So bookmarking it in your browser gives you all the same functionality, just not a single interface like Siri to use. You would have to open webpage, then use keyboard voice input to query the webpage. More steps, not as clean, but essentially the same result.

3- Finally Siri is not as good as google voice at find restaurants, POI, etc. The major ones yes. The less well known ones, Siri fails, but google voice search finds anything on the internet. This is strange since I am unsure what the search engine is behind Siri.

4- When Siri gets stumped, it asks if I want to do a web search for keywords in my question. Well this is EXACTLY what google voice search does.

bottom line is Siri is a little gimmicky. It works but is very limited in what it can do. It understands only general conversation words that are along the lines of what it can do, but it has no idea what the MPG is on my range rover sport, or what does venison taste like. it is not an Artificial Intelligence, it just understands conversation words so long as they are meant to make appointments, call or text or email contacts or POI, show something on map, reminders, stocks, weather, alarms, or anything you would normally ask Wolfram Alpha. It cannot create contacts. Asking it how many carbs are in Mcdonalds Fries brings up a nutritional chart of said item... the exact same thing that google voice search does on Android (although you have to click the link to read it).

i like the idea of a single interface, but it was DEFINATELY NOT AI.

oh and btw, the iphone 4S white on screen was WAAAAY whiter than my GS2 even with brightness at max... dunno why this was but I was impressed. However bringing up the same web image on both phones showed more color in GS2 and more cool/blueish tones in the iphone.

my quick testing of camera pictures was limited to in-store photos which did not require flash, but the GS2 definately had more sharpness than the iphone, but it also had more graininess too. the colors were also slightly off with the iphone being more realistic in color and the GS2 more saturated.

browser / internet speed - both phones on ATT 3g network

i couldn't use speedtest because iphone wasnt signed into App Store so I couldnt download it... and of course i cant use the website because it requires FLASH LOL!

but i did open several web pages at same time, such as engadget ( and lots of links to reviews off of engadget) and the phones are VERY close in speed. Sometimes iphone won, sometimes GS2 won, but never was either slower by more than 5 seconds. I would call this a tie.

main differences:

Android- you have to know exact phrases to say. SET ALARM FOR 7PM Thursday.
Siri- Can you please set an alarm for 7pm this Thursday?... or anything along these lines will make it work.

it's not AI, but it is good so long as you want to set an alarm.
but they both do the same thing.
now asking either to change the alarm in any way after it is created does nothing. you are now back to touchscreen editing

1. how is the battery, i heard its worse than the s2 in some cases
2. are you talking about the default voice commands for android or an app? i never used voice command and i have not set it up for my s2 but it sounds interesting

can i do something like
"text xxxx" and as i talk it types the text?

The Google Search app (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.voicesearch&feature=search_result) can do such things, like type out a text message to someone, I use it all the time in the car.
