Help wii remote/other game controller on evo 3d

At the moment there is no app that will let you use a wii remote, because of Sense 3.0.

Bluez IME, https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hexad.bluezime, I imagine is the next best thing.

what part of Sense 3.0 is preventing the wiimote from pairing? I was able to pair a BT mouse just fine, which I definitely couldn't do with Sense 1.0. Evidence suggests that BT HID support is there on Sense 3.0 and not on older versions.

You may be correct that a wiimote can't pair. I've just yet to hear from anyone with an actual wiimote say they've tried to pair it to the phone and it failed.

Well I have a question about this. You say it wont work with sence? Well say whrn we are abke to perm-root and put coustom roms on there then we should be able to use a wii remote am I correct?

Correct, Cyanogen Mod supports proper Bluetooth and has numerous reports of success when it comes to pairing the Wii controller.

[3] HTC Evo 3d sense ui - xda-developers

This person explains it best IMHO...
[...] when it comes to connecting an interface device, it does not support bluetooth HID (human interface device) profiles. It only supports SPP (serial port protocal).

[...] Everyone blamed the HTC Sense interface for why we couldn't connect HID devices, (Wii Mote, and several keyboards, mice, etc). Which is why the OP mentions Sense 3D, because he still thinks it was sense that did it. It wasn't actually Sense that did it. HTC just never built bluetooth HID profiles into the phone. AOSP roms don't have sense, but they are also built from ground 0, so they have HID profiles built into them. A lot of people have mistakenly thought that it was taking Sense completely out, that brought bluetooth HID back in, but it was really just coincidence.

I've been talking back and forth with a guy at Ingenu, who are developing a Bluetooth controller called.the Easymote. It looks very promising as it gives you the feel of a retro SNES controller, and works very seamlessly with some Emulators. Developers are slowly getting on board to allow external controllers to work with their Android apps and the Easymote is no exception. It will even allow you to shoot out a quick text reply in the middle of a game without having to change your settings.

Im looking forward to see the finished product. Ingenu is very customer oriented and extremely community driven.

Woot woot! Thanks for the kind words, Matlock!

If you all can hang on just a few more months we'll have a bangin' solution for your Bluetooth controller ailments. Promise.

Full support on the app, long term support on bugs and glitches, we stand behind what we're doing, and we'll prove it by sending the first 200 people who order an Easymote a hand-written letter expressing our deep gratitude.

Or if you're lucky, an Edible Arrangement. Or maybe you want a 4-pack of Monster. I like the green one. :p

Thanks again! Get at us if you want more info!

There's still a lot of conflicting info in this thread that needs clarification. Here's what we know:

Stock Evo 4G does not support BT HID devices whatsoever.

CyanogenMod on Evo 4G supports BT HID profiles and is proven to work with BT keyboards, mice, and wiimotes.

Stock Evo 3D allowed me to pair my BT mouse, which implies that HTC now does support HID in its new BT stack. By inference, it SHOULD support wiimote via BT. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

If I can pair a BT mouse, why wouldn't I be able to pair a HID game controller? And if there's good reason, how can Ingenu assure us that their product WILL work on the Evo 3D without a custom or AOSP BT stack?

If the Ingenu controller does work with stock Evo 3D, doesn't that mean that the problem all along was the wiimote controller and not the BT HID support?

Here is what i see when trying to pair my Wiimote.

But i assume Android 2.3.4+ offers support for USB/Bluetooth game controllers, Open accessories.

Obviously the thinking was with HID support that the wiimote would work, but it's not the case. And yes I think it's just the wiimote that won't. Yes I have tried it. Maybe it's the apps in the market that are used for the pairing that need updated, but the one app states that it is up to htc to fix the problem.

And it's very likely that HTC's HID support on the Evo 3D is flaky. Which is why I'm skeptical that another BT game controller would work, unless it's a combination of the Wii being kinda weird and HTC's HID support being incomplete...

BTW, referring to an earlier post by czarphanguye, I would still refer to HTC's HID support to be part of Sense 3, even if it actually resides in the kernel. What we normally call the ROM for these phones includes the OS and kernel, so when I say Sense 3, I'm referring to the entire package that came with the phone and not just the UI overlay. Not sure why we need a distinction for this particular issue except to nit pick :)

Isn't the OnLive Bluetooth controller working on the Evo as well as the 3d?

If so, HTC knows how to fix the issue without all the fol-der-ol.

Might require root to adopt the fixes for some fixes, but it surely must be doable without wholesale rom replacement.

I think my point is, if HTC can do it with just an app install, I could believe that others could work that way as well. Would require a special install just for HTC phones to add the missing BT bits - but the Market supports multiple install packages under a single name - again, doable.

Unless there's something I am missing about the OnLive controller here.

I have seen this asked a bunch of places and it never gets a confirmed answer. Even on reviews the answer is "I am not sure". I have seen numerous people chime in that an EVO 4g with CM7 can use a wiimote. But, it is a different phone. I should link all the site I have seen this discussed and no one seems to know. It is kind of frustrating. So can someone please answer this?

Is there an app to use a wiimote with a stock rom(rooted or not rooted) on an EVO 3D?

Is there an app to use a stock PS3 controller?

Hi I have been doing some reading around and it seems like you need to have your evo 3d rooted in order to use your PS3 Dual shock with it. Mine isn't rooted so I was wondering are there any game controllers similar to the ps2 or ps3 controller that work with our HTC EVO 3D android phones that don't require root access? Something that will just plug in and play or even better, work wirelessly?

i use this:

Tablet Wireless Game Controller V2 for Android | GameStop

it works on a completely stock ICS phone (GB untested) using bluetooth (i don't think wired exists considering our device doesn't send power out of the usb)

you just need these apps to pair it:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hexad.bluezime

BluezIME-HIDEnabler.apk - android-bluez-ime - BluezIME HID Enabler - A Bluetooth IME system for connecting gamepads to your Android - Google Project Hosting

just make sure to have the switch on the underside at "K" on "G"

Unbelievable how impossible it is to find a way to pair a Sixaxis PS3 controller with an unrooted HTC EVO 3D phone, thanks to HTC's silly firmware. Doubt the solution posted above would help with an unrooted phone anyway. Too bad :(
