Help How to properly mount an External SD Card

I was wondering if anyone knew how to properly install/mount an external SD Card? I have read in several places that you have to have some technology background to do so but it never said how to do it. I have come from a "dumb" phone where all I had to do was insert the card.

I just want to make sure I do it properly the first time, because I know it involves more than just inserting the card.

Any directions given would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is the card new? Coming from another phone?

Insert card->enjoy.

-or-

Insert card->go to settings->Storage->Format USB Storage (this will delete anything on your card).

The card will be new. I did't realize that it would be that easy, but then it contradicts what I read that you would have to have some background in technology in order to do so. I thought I was missing a step or two that needed to be done in order to mount the SD card.

Thank you to all who replied. I appreciate it.

Maybe, these are the questions I should have asked:

When formatting the SD card, does it automatically select the proper format for the phone? If not how do I properly format the SD card?

I was reading in a post that another user was not able to view things on their SD card while it was mounted to their phone but it would read it on other devices such as the computer. There was a reply that stated the folllowing "I think S2 only recognizes FAT formatted SD card" verses NTFS formatted card.

Like I said previously, I am new at this so I really appreciate everyone's patience and replies.

to mount the card just simply put the card in. To unmount it hit your menu button/settings/sd card & phone storage/unmount sd card. Now you can take out your sd card if you wish. If you unmount it and dont remove it from the phone just follow the steps to get back to those options and hit mount sd card. That's the proper way to mount and unmount a mounted sd card.
