Man, this is a big phone

no shit. i posted it for comparison and illustrative purposes. if the Note can easily be pocketable - so can the Galaxy Nexus.

Not for me, I put my wallet and phone in the same pocket side by side, there is no way the Note and my wallet will fit side by side in my pocket.....the Note is too wide for that.

Side note:
No need for the language in your post.

The G2X is big and GN makes it look small.

obviously it's a subjective and personal decision that each person will have to make on their own. that's the beauty of Android - customer choice. everyone will have to do their own pocket test and see what works for them.

That may be one way of putting it Sir Gekko... but we ALL know an android device hits the "BIG TIME" status ONLY if its got this:

i had the " ;) " because i was being facetious about them being the actual phone in the picture, but yeah... they're actually pretty powerful phones (clocked up to 1.2 though they really don't need it). i find myself holding the phone less than a foot from my face without realizing it, so yepperz... need a bigger screen. below are a few pics of them. you really have to see them in person to get how ridiculously small they are. despite their frame, they are definitely attention grabbers.

So you did indeed get used to it. Point proven.

Do we lose sight of the fact of the fact it's a big phone? Of course not. For some of us it's a selling point. But has it ever been an encumbrance? That extra ounce of weight or fraction of a square inch requiring Herculean effort to lug around? I would venture to say no.

But hey, all this speculation is just that. When the phone's out, check it out. In that respect, this is no different than any other phone that has ever been released. If you like small form factor phones, then get a small form factor phone. My point of all this is, I just don't see the Galaxy Nexus as being dramatically larger than anything else out there. If for example someone is in my shoes of owning and enjoying a Droid X.. I see this as no different.

Not even close. All that proves is that I got used to the size of the DX. But as another poster stated, that's about my limit. I think it's ridiculous to assume that we'll all be okay with phones getting bigger and bigger. It doesn't have to be dramatically larger than anything else out there. At some point, that extra half inch will make a difference to all of us. Everyone has a tipping point. All I'm saying is that the GNex may have gone beyond mine.

I can't deny it is a sweet device and once I actually see it in person, I may have a change of heart, but for some of us, this is an issue.

Then your option is limited to mid range phones like Dinc2, Breakout, Stratosphere. Now some of them come with 4G LTE too. But you won't see dual core beasts with gigantic RAM/memory in 4" or smaller phones any more.

You're probably right. Though the D4 looks like it may have a 4 inch screen with pretty much the same general specs as the Razr as well as LTE. I may wait for that. Regardless, my concern isn't with the screen size, but rather the overall size. After all, I did tote a DX for a year before moving to the D3. A good comprise for me would be something like an Atrix 2 but with a bit more internal memory and a slightly faster processor. If you look at the size of the Atrix 2, it's actually smaller that the DX even though it also has a 4.3 inch screen.

No... you have to like it and think it's perfect, otherwise I'll curl up into the fetal position and throw a tantrum...

I'll bet you a dollar you'll try it out and be just fine with it.

The attached PDF file contains an actual sized photo of the Galaxy Nexus. Print it out see how big it is for yourself. Make sure you select "Page Scaling: None" when you print. Lay your current phone down next to it for a size comparison.

This thing dwarfs my Droid Eris!

It's funny that no matter how many on-screen pictures I've seen your print out really gave me a different perspective. Thanks!!

It isn't such a huge leap up from my Droid X. I knew it was taller, but with the rounded edges it may not be so bad. But what sucks is that the screen really isn't any bigger then my X (it's nearly the same size), when the buttons are shown that is.

IMOHO, the top and bottom bezels of this phone are way too large. This is disappointing since with on-screen buttons that they had a real opportunity to reduce this space. While there is decent hardware inside, from what I read it isn't so much better than a SG2II, in fact it is worse (screen tech, GPU) in a few ways.

But, it's a Nexus phone - on Verizon - hard to beat that.

What could have been...

Note that the screens are all the same size in all images. The smallest phone could be a bit curvier, but there's a limit to my photo editing skills (and my lunch break).

Your photo editing is pretty good.
I agree there might be some room to trim out in Nexus. But the right one wouldn't happen as there should be space for radios, sensors, etc.

The phone really isn't that big. In fact, it is much slimmer/thinner than the Incredible and newer phones including the HTC EVO 3D, HTC Thunderbolt, Motorola Bionic, and even the brand new iPhone 4s (which is a 3.5" phone!!). The Razr is .03" slimmer however.

It also isn't much bigger in terms of width. All of the 4.3" dual core phones are at least 2.6" wide and the Galaxy Nexus is only 2.67". The Bionic, Evo 3D, and Razr are ALL over 2.6" wide and the Razr is largest at 2.71".

The biggest change is in the length, but since it goes in my pocket, thinness and width is most important so it isn't much of a con for me.

Also, the 4.65" detail is throwing everyone off because they don't realize that the dimensions aren't much different than the 4.3" phones and that they were able to squeeze more retail screen thanks to ICS (no more physical menu buttons) so we aren't comparing apples to apples.

I've had the Incredible for a year and a half and thought that I would never want a bigger phone. This was perfect. Now that I have learned a lot and have sooo much capability in one little device, I've been dying for a bigger screen (especially for internet browsing and typing).

Here is the proof:

I think by now most of us know that part of the 4.65 inch screen is the soft keys. In fact, this was the reason I thought it wouldn't be that much bigger than other 4.3 inch phones like the droid x. But a third of an inch in height is a pretty significant when we're talking about devices that are in the 5 inch height range. It's not like this is a notebook computer.

Also, some of us would take more girth if it meant less length and width. Having had both the DX and D3, the D3 clearly felt smaller and more comfortable in my hand even though it was far thicker. This is why I might opted for the HTC Rezound after today's announcement. Based on some of the hands-ons from the event, it seems to be very similar in size to the DX. Yes, it is a thick phone. But like I said, I'd probably be okay with that trade off. It's also 720p and though it's not SAmoled, EVERY hands-on I read raved about the screen. It's also similar spec'd and has a removable sdcard slot. Plus, it comes with headphones that probably would run you at least $50 purchased separately. I know the processor is older tech and the battery size leaves something to be desired. But I probably won't keep the phone for more than a year anyway and I'm sure the processor will hold up just fine during that time.

The great thing is I'm in no rush so I'll get to compare all these new phones (GNex, Razr and Rezound) within three weeks of each other before deciding. Choice, it's one of the things I love about android.

I suppose, if you look at the nexus as less of a phone and more of a mini computer that also makes calls, then the size doesn't seem all that big. Full 720p web browsing and video watching in the palm of your hand is pretty alluring. But I'm the kind of guy that needs to have his phone on him at all times. I never had a problem with carrying the droid x, but it was a pretty snug fit in some of my pants pockets. I'd imagine that would be worse with the nexus.
