Root [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2.1 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 20th December 2012)

Issues after root:
I Recently rooted my desire using this guide and everything was working well. My phone then started to run slightly slow i decided to restart it. This is when the problem occured...my phone was running 2.3.3 when i rooted it. It is still running 2.3.3 but the graphics seem to have changed back to 2.2. For example the text size has increased and the layout at the bottom of HTC Sense is overlapped. See screen shots-After-restart shows the clock with graphic glitch and the bottom menu overlapping-the notification bar is also slightly bigger with larger text. I'm also missing quite a lot of the stock widgets.-Screen shot after-restart2 is missing the calendar widget and mobile network widget-if i go to add these there simple not on the widget list. I don't really want to have to factory reset because 1. It takes ages to sort everything else out again and 2. i don't know if it'll work correctly seeing i've rooted.

Cheers.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for this guide to rooting the Desire. After a week or so of total frustration of the lack of memory on my Desire causing app updates to fail and being unable to install anything new I finally rooted it and have installed CyanogenMod. I might try some other mods before settling on anything, but rooting it has breathed new life in to my Desire and saved me a fortune by not having to buy a new phone, not to mention there is nothing new that particular grabs me (some of us don't need a 4.3" plus screen behemoth!).

Still need to play to get the phone how I like it, but at least its usable again, and still loads of room for more apps!

So i restored my desire to android 2.3.3 stock rom. I thought it was working ok, I have now discovered however that it can lag a lot, it seems to be crashing quite a lot and the camera freezes a lot. The phone still has the revolutionary boot screen but it is no longer rooted. My hboot version was above 1.2 so i had to use this method: Start by 1. Install drivers: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.e - Pastebin.com
I;ve tried to do it again but it says s-off is already enable or something along those lines. If i go into recovery i get the phone with an ! next to it. I found a link how to fix this but the links for clorkwordmod didn't work. I want to flash CyanogenMod but i can't access ClockworkMod Recovery. Any ideas would be great.

Thank you.

You're still s-off. This is enabled via the custom hboot you have.

An RUU replaces everything however the newer hboots like you have from alpharev, are write protected. You have replaced recovery and Rom but are still s-off

You need to fastboot flash a recovery. See the adb and fastboot faq in my signature. Skip the adb bit as its not relevant

Hi I just carried out the rooting process and it all went fine. I carried out the two checks to make sure the install was a sucess and i was.

I can see the SuperUser app but when I launch it, i just get a black screen with and when I press the menu button I have a preferences option.

Please can someone help me

Many thanks

Ok, so I followed the steps. On unrEVOked it does the reboot, it is sitting at 'waiting for root" On the guide it says turn on to Hboot, click on recovery. I do that, it eventually goes to a black screen with an image of a phone and a triangled exclamation mark. What do I do?!

You're booting to hboot? If so, don't. You haven't let unrevoked finish. It will say if complete. That image you are seeing is the default recovery. Once rooted you will see a different one.

your hboot drivers are not installed so it was unable to complete the rooting process and leaves it in hboot
