So due to my wonderful coverage going from mediocre to hideous on Verizon, I made the switch to T-Mobile and The N1.
Some of the below comments might stem from the network problems, and some are just the better hardware and optimized 2.1. I love love love the Android experience as I'm a self confessed Google Freak and in 5 hours of use, I feel like I've been liberated!
This bad boy is FAST : I rooted my droid, overclocked it yadda yadda, but the Snapdragon is prefixed by the word SNAP for a reason. The N1 is blazing fast. Much faster than a stock droid IMO and even with one overclocked and rooted. Menu transitions, fluidity, even typing seems to be quicker and MORE accurate than on the Droid. The physical keyboard was a novelty at best and I only used it sparingly. It wont be missed.
Call Quality is Far Superb: Now I have been a Verizon fanboy for years, but I feel that in my neck of the woods (Las Vegas) their network is overcapacity. Calls taking 5-15 seconds to connect, resending texts multiple time, ghost texts being received DAYS later. I know this is purely a coverage issue, but that alone REALLY can make or break your Android experience. I feel like Ive gotten to fall in love with the OS all over again, and marvel at how quickly communications flowed to and from the handset.
Handset Build Quality: Dont get me wrong, the Droid was a BEAST of a phone, I felt that if I was being chased by a ninja down the Strip, and all I had for protection would be to throw my Moto Droid at him, that it would stop him dead in his tracks, with nay a trace of damage to it. The N1 is a beautiful piece of hardware. HTC has always made superb handsets, and this is no exception. The slightly smaller resolution on the N1 screen is long forgotten when you look at how rich the colors are on the AMOLED. I thought that the screen on the droid was a DREAM, until I held the two devices side by side this evening.
2.1 OS : Ill admit it I like pretty and shiny, the iPhone UI is amazing, I just hate their closed architecture. The animated wallpapers, the new app tray, as trivial as this may be in actual day to day use, really make for a more professional user experience. It was like, the droid was cut and dry like your sister, and the N1 like Megan Fox (or whoever you deem hot hot hot). Both are the same at their core (kinda) but hanging out with Megan Fox is just way more fun. I know some of these improvements will be coming to the rest of the Android masses in 2.1 (maybe?) but if the phone can handle it..and not just the Moto Droid, the carrier and handset manufacturer would be foolish not upgrade your sister to Megan Fox.
