Anyone Choose the RAZR over the Galaxy Nexus? Explain what u like about RAZR over Galaxy Nexus?

For the benchmark crowd. The RAZR is the solid winner. Nexus takes the Sunspider (browsing should be great)

Battery life matches the RAZR which MAY not fair to well on the LTE model.

"Battery life is excellent. While we only managed to squeeze about five hours and 15 minutes from our battery rundown test (where we play a looped video starting from a full charge), it matches what we saw with the Droid RAZR, which features a similar battery and processor"

Wonder how much better our numbers get after ICS!!!

No need to bash the better phone just so you can feel justified in your decision to get the Razr. They are both great devices.

Galaxy Nexus is great because it always get the latest first and the screen is 720P.

RAZR is better because...

1. Premium Materials & Build Quality compared to another plastic samsung

2. Better Design & Way thinner than SGN debatable design. 2mm is WAY thinner????

3. Hot Swappable Memory w/ up to 80GB storage compared to 16GB on SGN

4. 8MP Camera compared to 5MP on SGN Wow! People are still buying into MP. Hysterical

5. Radio/Reception is Stronger(At least on the xt910 HSPA version) & Flash Capable

:)

Samsung cameras..reagrdless of MP...are far superior to any Moto camera. Just being a realist

I like Samsung...But your off base! When comparing the camera on the Razr to that of the Droid Charge, the Razr snaps pictures much faster, and each shot is alot sharper and clear from the Razr. I don't get caught in the Mega pixels war...but the Razr just has a better shooter when comparing them side by side.

Been saying this since I saw it revealed and subsequent videos. Also aesthetically speaking it's too tall and not wide enough giving it an oblong look. It looks like a jelly bean.

Lets face it. The Nexus and RAZR are both excellent product in their own right but what separates them from one another? Design and build quality. The RAZR just wins that comparo hands down. Whether one likes the the look of the RAZR or not. It is the most innovative product to ever hit the Android market. Period.

4-5 months ago I was so upset and mad with Motorola and anybody that knows me can attest to that. I am a huge fan of theirs but I was very VERY vocal over my displeasure with them and some even misunderstood it for bashing them but I wasn't. I was a frustrated fan. Conversely I was accused of being a Samsung fanboi because of my praise for the GSII. I gushed about Samsung and cursed Motorola openly.

I truly have no loyalty to one brand or another and I will give praise when a manufacturer gets something right. Motorola got this one right and I personally feel that the RAZR is a FANTASTIC piece of equipment and one of the best Android handsets ever made. It's solid and it works. No need to ROM and theme this bad boy because it's THAT good. This darn thing just grows on you. It's very hard to explain.

the one Nail in the coffin with any Samsung phones seems to be the GPS! Honestly, I would have thought Samsung would have fixed it by now

Galaxy S2, at least the GSM version, has no GPS issues. In fact it's the only one of my three Androids that is able to obtain a lock indoors.

No phones currently support SDXC(64GB-2TB) because its not yet compatable with micro sd tech.

As pointed out already that is incorrect. The GS2 is being used by several users with 64GB microSDXC cards so the hardware support is already available.

I happen to think it was a Major mistake by Google to have Samsung build the Galaxy Nexus with out an SD slot..

The Nexus S had no external memory capability either, so I'd say it's intentional by Google/OHA.

Folks, not sure the motive behind mzjin's posts, but seem like flame bait to me.

It's only "flame bait" is people choose to take it as such. The recommended course of action in such cases is to report the post rather than hurl accusations around, as those often cause more flames than the post itself.

So far this topic is proceeding along just fine. So long as it remains like that, and nobody falls into the trap of simply bad-mouthing one device in favour of another, I see no problems.

Actually, what I didn't like about the RAZR and the one thing that I just couldn't get comfortable with was it's width. It was just too wide for my liking. I am concerned that the Nexus is too tall though.

Design and build quality. The RAZR just wins that comparo hands down. Whether one likes the the look of the RAZR or not. It is the most innovative product to ever hit the Android market. Period.
Build quality, most likely; haven't handled the Nexus, but after feeling the RAZR it would be diffcult to dispute. Design, that's subjective. Again, I was not a fan of the width. I would have preferred an extra mm of depth and or height in exchange for a mm or 2 of width.

I truly have no loyalty to one brand or another and I will give praise when a manufacturer gets something right. I too, have no loyalty to a brand. I went from a OG Droid to an Incredible to an Inc2 through insurance after I broke the Incredible. I tried out the RAZR, and while at first I thought it was too big, I quickly got used to the height, but it never felt comfortable in my hand.
On top of that, while mine may have just been a lemon, I could not last 10 hours on 3G with minimal phone usage. That and it took 2-3 hours to bring it back to a full charge. The final straw was one night whle on the charger the screen went dim, really dim. As if the LCD had broken and it was just pouring liquid between the display and the glass.
I'm back to using my OG Droid until my battery charger for the Inc2 comes in so that I can squeeze some more life out of that phone. I'm going to take a look at the Nexus, and if it's not to my liking I would definitely give the RAZR another shot because outside of what I mentioned above (battery life and width) made it the best phone I've ever used.

Well since the LTE version of the GNex hasn't been released, it's a bit early to say it's the 'better phone'...wouldn't you say? ;)

Since he was only quoting what the Engadget review said "looks & feels cheap", and also mentioned factually 'no USB mass storage', not sure how you feel he was bashing the phone.

How easy will it be to trade up to the galaxy nexus if I ordered through amazon with the $.01 deal? I imagine that they will want me to pay the difference? I definitely want the galaxy nexus, but I will be ok with the RAZR. If the galaxy nexus retails for $200 or $250, I will probably definitely try to get it since if I have to sell my RAZR and buy the galaxy nexus, hopefully they are about the same price. I find the release of the nexus phones to be really sloppy. Also, as I've seen in the past, Verizon is willing to delay the release of one phone, to allow consumers to buy into another phone so that two very high end phones aren't releasing at the same time. The same thing happened when all of the original galaxy s phones were being released, but the fascinate was delayed on verizon so that it didn't compete directly with the droid x.

Here's how I feel about the two phones from what I've read. I ordered my Droid RAZR, but it isn't set to be delivered until Tuesday.

RAZR's advantages:
-Removable sd card
-Build quality
-Thinner, although it has a hump. It is about the same width as the Gnex, and is only maybe 2mm shorter. Also, although I read that the HSPA+ version of the Gnex is 9mm thick, the LTE version may be slightly thicker.
-Smart Actions? (I don't see this as much of an advantage because there are already apps on the marketplace that do these things well)
-Adobe Flash (I put this on here, but it's not really an advantage IMO)

GNex advantages:
-Stock ICS
-Removable battery
-Screen is also pentile but it shouldn't be as bad with the higher resolution
-Fits better in your hand
-And my favorite...NO BLOATWARE (without possibly voiding warranty and bricking phone)

Where they are tied, or don't differ enough to really matter to me:
-Camera
-Processor speed

As you can see, there really is no getting around the fact that the galaxy nexus is overall "better" than the droid razr. The lack of bloatware will probably be the main reason I would switch to the galaxy nexus. I feel that the only dealbreaker for some may be the lack of sd card slot on the nexus, or the lack of a removable batter on the razr.

The Razr camera is horrible. The Nexus Camera is meh but not horrendous. The 2 year old iPhone 4 (and new iPhone 4S) kills them.

#1) Battery life blows on my Razr. I'd forgive it if I could bring it into a store and have them swap my battery life, but this is Verizon and Motorola we're talking about, not a world class company like Apple.

#2) Screen. Same size device, bigger and better screen on Nexus. Actually Nexus is less wide.

#3) Faster. Nexus runs a faster GPU, it would be interesting to see whether ICS is slower feeling on the Razr because the GPU can't keep up the OS graphical acceleration. CPU wise, it likely runs cooler and uses less battery life on a higher binned processor.

#4) Modding and community - you can bet the Nexus is gonna get everything first and foremost.

Other major thing the Razr can't do:

5) Music Playback because the headphone jack is white noise/whine city. It's unacceptable and laughable at this day and age.

To be honest, if this Razr had no battery life issues and could double as an Mp3 player, I wouldn't be so hard on it. But because it's Motorola and we know the battery will die in a few months, and you lose sound quality... there's no reason to accept this level of device when there's cheaper and better out there.

So I'm returning it on December 8th for the Nexus, and if that one has major flaws, I'm going to give up and go back to iPhone 4S.

not sure what your talking about with battery life and noise quality, I use the 3.5mm jack daily for at least an hour or two at a time and there is no static or interference. and battery life, with 4g left on im averaging about 13 hours on average usage, ran the battery dead in 6 hours of high usage, and so far im at 8hours today on the battery and still 80% since i havent used it much at all.

i'll give it to you the camera on this thing sucks, its a little better than my DX but not much, and if I want to post process the photo i would of used my SLR to begin with. so far my only issue with the razr is the screen, The pentile display is absolute shit, and when theres no backlighting you can see black splotches all over the screen.

If you just listen to loud rock music, you won't notice the crappy earphone jack.

The difference the white noise level between the Razr, an iPHone/iPod is just astounding. It's basically constant level of background noise vs complete silence.

Really shoddy hardware quality.

That is wrong really. The screen is bigger, but the Nexus uses the bottom row for buttons, instead of hard buttons like the Razr or every other device.

The usable screen area is about identical.

The Samsungs have junk parts inside. The LTE radio and GPS are weak. The radio will constantly search between 4g and 3g, and take really long to find its signal.

Same thing with the GPS. It will take 10 minutes going down the road for it to finally lock on to your car.

The motorola takes just a few seconds to lock on once I activate GPS signal

The GPS problem has been debunked as false from the SGSII on. FWIW, my Continuum locks on faster than my Incredible ever did.

As for the radio, the Thunderbolt and Bionic had multiple problems with theirs meaning that radio tech and the way it interacts with the rest of the HW has dramatically improved since the first generation of LTE phones from all companies. Might the Nexus still have problems? Sure, but saying it before anyone has really had the chance to evaluate it is kind of ignorant.

No bloat problem here. Golf 2, Madden 12, Blockbuster and Gotomeeting uninstalled and the rest frozen with Titanium :)

Rooting is about as simple as can be.

Got my RAZR late this afternoon.... rooting was quick and easy and didn't even need to run adb... almost as easy as z4. Anyway, so far I am VERY impressed with this phone. I have no qualms about buying it thus far. Honestly, I was pretty happy with my DX2, but in the 6 hours I've had my RAZR my DX2 now feels sluggish and also like a brick weight wise. I am impressed with the colors and "brightness" of the RAZR screen so far. I am in the process of installing via Tibu and will be freezing bloat soon too. It is very nice not to have to worry about my free RAM like I have had to do on my DX2. All in all, this feels like an awesome phone, albeit I am early in the ownership process. I do not see anything spec-wise that tells me the GN will be overall superior. I'm sure it will be a great phone, but no SD slot killed any interest I had in it what so ever. I already bought a small emergency battery pack for times I travel or may be away from a charger for 12+ hours. I don't expect huge problems with battery life and my experience has been on par to my expectations (normal android battery life) thus far.
