A few of us will get it no matter what time of year its released. But if its in the area of Christmas, why not try to take advantage of the holiday sales??

They should have had thing thing released Dec 1 ... let the early adopters beta test the thing, maybe get a quick update rolled out to fix the bugs, and now you have 3 weeks to refill the store in time for Christmas shoppers

Releasing Dec 12 (or 15?) and selling out immediately, probably having a few minor bugs that will be over-exaggerated by the media .. isnt a great strategy.

I know a lot of people get anxious with these release dates but I don't think it matters. The AsusTP tab is one of the most positive reviews I have seen for a Android tablet. I can't remember any new device release and not have some kind of issue. Consumers are going to buy what they want period, no matter the release date. But I agree with you to some extent, I thought they would have try to get this out before thanksgiving to capitalize on black friday, cyber monday and just the whole holiday start.

I'm not so sure that many people buy others 500 tablets for Christmas. Maybe a 200 kindle fire but a 500 tablet seems like a self gift item.

Apple ipad may be the exception. That already has a marketing machine behind that.

I'm thinking a Acer a100 for 200 might be a gift. But a 500 tablet is pretty expensive in this economy for a Christmas present....

Although Lexus likes us to think people are buying each other 50k cars for Christmas with a big red bow on it.

Absolutely! But the self-gift shopping is amplified at Xmas time

For example in my own case I'm buying my wife an ipad just to set the bar on price, she asks me what I want and I tell her prime.

Essentially I'm buying it for myself since I'm spending the same money.

If it wasn't Xmas I wouldn't be buying my wife a gift that big, and I wouldn't be buying it just for myself since then she will bitch about me spending so much money on myself.

Given the fact it wont even be shipping in time for Christmas internationally (e.g. it's January in the UK), I'm going to guess this is the earliest they could produce the units. Nobody would chose to launch a luxury item in January over December if they could avoid it.

I think Asus is getting the devices out rather quickly compared to other manufactures. Unfortunately the stuff on white paper needs to be put together in factories. When you first build a new product you never know what issues will arise. Ie bad cpu batch.

Maybe that would explain the moving launch date. I say it's better to receive a working unit next year than the unit this year that malfunctions.

Heh just trying to put a positive spin on it :p
