now on to a topic a bunch of us likely are interested in thats on topic.... i wonder how much thickness the extended batt adds?

It is 250 mah I would think they should be able to get same size back as normal battery similar to how the droid 3 extended battery is and you cannot tell you have the extended battery? At least I would hope since it is such a small increase.

The most disheartening part about this ending to the nexus release is calling to nearly every Verizon store in my metropolis area (San Francisco area) and hearing no news at all no matter what tactic I try. It's hard to see everyone claiming they have their names on lists, possibly getting it early, or even getting "phone numbers" and sneak peeks at phones... when I can't even get on a "yea we'll add you to a list" while hearing them laugh in the background as if I should know they're lying to me. Guess some of us just have to keep waiting, no matter how much of a larger populated city we live in vs all these podunk towns being named :p

Yup, my podunk metro area in Ga is only 5.8 mil or so. Nothing to see here. Move along now. Ya'heah?

;)

I was hoping to be able to get to a store around 9 or a little before Friday but worried now with all the talk of getting reserved spots on lists for specific times I might not even be able to get one on Friday.

nah, all these stories are exceptions and not the rule. most places don't have "lists" or "name on the box".

You'll be fine.

I would hope so too bu the extended battery is listed as coming with the battery door as well. Indicates an added thickness...

I saw that SIP (Internet-based) calling is a feature in the manual, will this work over 4G or not - any ideas?
Won't work over 4G out of box (disabled in one of the config files within Android) but you can enable it with root access.

But... Verizon blocks port 5060/5061 on 4G which makes this an exercise in futility. You'd have to build a VPN tunnel out to get SIP to register. Not worth the trouble.

Just had a very peculiar chat with a VZW agent online. Here's the transcript (not saying there's anything that can be extracted from this, but it's very bizarre):

Kristopher: Thank you for choosing VZW.com Presales Support. My name is Kris, I'd be happy to assist you with your order today! May I have your name please?
Scott: Yes, my name is Scott.
Kristopher: Hey Scott!
Kristopher: How can I help you tonight?
Scott: Hi Kristopher, I was wondering if you have the Galaxy Nexus in your systems yet, and if so, when will it be available in stores or online?
Kristopher: It's not, and still no word, but around 11:30 they all come on the site like it's Time's Square!
Kristopher: (feel free to join the party if you like!)
Scott: So you mean at 11:30 PM tonight, the Galaxy Nexus will be available for pre-order?
Kristopher: I mean 11:30 EVEY night since last tuesday.
Kristopher: No, I'm not sure when it will be, but they show up, just in case.
Scott: Ok... thanks.

Ummm... lolwut?

Will a corporate store let you buy the phone in the box and walk out the door without them doing all of the setup? I'd like to have the unboxing experience and activate everything myself.

Yes. I asked the same question just to be sure (although I have done it before with the Thunderbolt and the Bionic).

Hope so. There are 3-4 coporate stores around so I hope to score at one of them. Really looking forward to entering the smart phone era Friday!

my posts from before kind of sum it up.
But I've been to big launches 2 hours early and i was first in line. With the BB Storm they only got 5, they get rainchecks or option to get from shipping.
The OG Droid there were more devices than people in line.

Get there an hour early at the latest if you want to feel safe.

Just talked to a store manager at my local Verizon store in downtown Chicago. After asking if the GNex was in stock, he couldn't comment on the question but did say the phone will be on sale Friday. I asked him if I could set up an appointment on Friday, but he said couldn't confirm until they receive additional launch day details during a meeting scheduled for tomorrow night . I asked if they were taking pre-orders, but he said that they're expecting a large shipment so they do not expect to sell out and will not take pre-orders.

(UPDATE: I called back and talked to another rep who also confirmed Friday is the day and was able to set up an appointment! w00t!)
