Great, Canada can't even get bacon right, but THEY get the GNexus before the USA?!

If the Gnex isn't released in the US tomorrow, I will seriously be considering going over the bridge just to check one out. I live in Buffalo so this wouldn't be a terribly long drive. I've had zero luck with store CSR's and doubt they would let me look at one even if they DID have them in store. :(

Although, I DOUBT the GF would let me do this! lol

Hello everyone :) Just another long-time lurker here >.>

I wanted to start off by thanking each and every one of you that has contributed to this thread - you've provided a lot of great information for people diving into the android world for the first time. I am very much appreciative.

I have two questions if anyone can chime in and give their two cents.

First, slashgear just reported (not sure how breaking the news is) that the costco deal looks to be ten bucks off ($290) and a “Member Bonus Accessory Pack.”

I have a $50 loyalty discount at verizon wireless that will drop cost to $250 buying straight from vzw. Do you guys believe the accessory pack will be worth the $40 bucks? Any guesses as to what it will include? I am very much interested in the car mount, not sure what else I'll be interested in.

Secondly, I'm not sure whether or not to buy and immediately pay ETF. January 5th I leave on a study abroad program to Spain, and I get back to the US, earliest July 5th, latest August 5th. I'll be disabling the phone save for wifi for those six months. I'm paying $40 a month on a family plan, so that's $240 to $280 I'll pay Verizon for nothing in those months.

My other option is to pay the ETF ($350?), port my phone number to google voice ($20?), and cancel my verizon service (save $240 to $280). As I will be out of my contract when I get back to the states in August and hop back in on my family plan, that would allow me to get the promotional 2-year contract price on a phone whenever I want from then on. But I seem to lose a little money and porting to google voice when I go international (to not lose my number) and porting back to verizon when I'm back seems to be a hassle. Your thoughts?

Winding the time machine way back, my dorm room heater was so hot, I could fry eggs on it. In the dead of winter (in upstate NY), we had the window open it was so hot. This was with the heater control turned OFF.

My diet in college consisted entirely of pizza, pasta, and chicken tenders. Eggs simply weren't fast enough! Of course, this is well before I knew how to eat properly and wondered why I couldn't gain muscle weight for the life of me.

On topic -
I wasn't in the hangout yesterday (at work), but from what I gather, Mathias seemed pretty damn annoyed at the launch of this thing, or am I reading it wrong?

I've got another thought on why this "delay" could be just misdirection:

Someone mentioned that their son worked for tech support, and the info they gave is that once Verizon showed the release date on that product screen, associates were allowed to talk about it. Of course before you allow the associates to talk about it, you'd want them to know about the product, right? Now while there has definitely been some training on the Nexus, it's all informal and minimal at best. I'd imagine you'd want someone in each store to be the "expert" on the phone, which brings me to my next point...

Remember the webinars we heard about some time back? The last one is scheduled to be held today at 1PM Eastern.

Could they have been waiting until this was finished to ensure that each store had their Nexus "expert" before actually allowing the announcement?

I may be reaching here, but I can't help it - Always an optimist. :)

We have a micro and a toaster oven. So we are getting by! But I miss my over medium eggs wih cheese on a crumpet.

Actually, the microwave egg poachers (probably about $2 - $3 from Walmart) do a pretty decent job. Probably as close as you'll get to the over medium eggs. (just spray with non stick spray first)

FYI, accessories dropped to 16 for some reason: Set Your Location

OT Starbucks
Gingerbread Lattes are so delicious. I love their holiday drinks, even though a lot of their stuff is priced a bit high.

OT Comp Stuff
Just bought a new case fan for my PC.

Speaking of home servers, I have a Zotac net-top running OpenElec (an XBMC custom install) and this streams 1080p straight to my TV (movies and TV shows) with an amazing interface, all controlled from my phone. Hoping to pick up a tablet for XBMC control. I highly recommend this to anyone trying to setup a media server on the cheap.

OpenELEC - The living room PC for everyone

OT Starbucks :
Love Love love their Peppermint Mocha. But you're right, too much $$$ to have it often.

I love this place! First, congrats Mr. 58 for the big prize! I came in and started lurking about 3 weeks ago and am just now feeling the need to post. I followed the same path during the DInc release process, and within a few hours of my first post, we saw pre-order sites go live...sooo in hopes of a stated jinx (un-jinx?) to change our luck, here's to an official announcement in the coming hours! Thanks to all posters/mods for making my stalking experience a real treat (I feel dirty just for thinking that statement).

Welcome to the family! That's last statement made me lol.

You also go see a magician knowing its a lie...we shouldn't have to expect corporations who we pay to deceive us to protect our own feelings. But that. Unfortunately is the case.

Next you're gonna tell me my friends are right and Santa is fake, the tooth fairy doesn't come visit and the easter bunny is imaginary too. :(

Morning all. :) Trying to catch up from last night, I'm.. oh, about 11 pages back. :p

Morning! And
Good luck!

Bring her to dinner somewhere nice to soften her up. Better yet, bring her to dinner in Canada. :D

It's funny because when Apple wants to bring the iPhone to Verizon, Verizon lets them run the show. Release date when they choose, no bloat, no disabled features, heavy promotion. Google does the same, and we get a bloated, numerously delayed device with a really compelling feature (Google Wallet) disabled.

And we still don't even know when we can get one.

That all sounds like a hassle to me honestly. Get the GSM version for while you're there and sell it on ebay when you move back and get the VZW one then. You can put a hold on your number while you're away sometimes, I'd look into that rather than deal with cancellaion fees. I think someone said ATT hold fee is $5 - 10 a month maybe?

Welcome! I'll let others answer the plan questions. I haven't had enough coffee yet to do any serious problem solving. :D

You are wrong. You can buy an unsubsadized phone at any time for full retail and it has no effect on your contract. You cannot get the on contract price at any you wish but can get it early sometimes with approval. Standard for upgrade eligible is 20 months into contract I believe.

That's odd because my sister purchased an OG Droid when Big Red was running the BOGO deal, re-upped her contract for 2 years to get the online price, then just a month or two later she purchased a Droid2. Both times she paid the price listed as "with a 2 year contract" and all transactions were done online without speaking to anyone or getting any approval.
Meh, maybe that was just because they were pushing the D2, I don't know.

Well thanks for the correction anyway. :D

With the iPhone comes millions of sales, with this phone it won't be nearly as much. I wish that weren't true, but it is.

Just called my last store, I'm sure the rep was lying to me, she said it was set for launch tomorrow but it's been delayed, she started spewing some BS about the phone still being tested, I told her some stores I know for a fact have them in stock she denied that corporate stores had them....ok you were set to launch tomorrow with no phones huh? So they were given strict instructions to say say it's been delayed with no date given.

Your right Stigy I don't buy that they don't have a date in mind.

LOL - I know what you mean. Dunno how many bowls of Fruit Loops I ate, in addition to pizza, Hot Truck (on campus favorite for late night food), and anything that could go into a fry daddy. :p

I'm with you and have always thought this way. Until Verizon says so, this phone is not coming out. I give it a 0% chance it comes out tomorrow, and about a 2% chance it comes out next week. I'm still holding firm to my "after xmas" prediction, and that's only because Verizon has said "later this year". If not for that, I could see them having no problem pushing it into next year. And I could actually see them pushing into next year anyway, regardless of what they've already said. Now, if you can convince Best Buy or Costco or whoever to sell you the phone tomorrow, that's different, but good luck activating it.
There's an issue with releasing after Christmas though. Doing that means they would lose potential revenue/profit. Christmas shopping is probably the biggest shopping time of the year. Millions of consumers shelling out money for the newest gadgets. If they lose out on that, I can see the Board of Directors firing the CEO and the marketing team for being incompetent.

Google Wallet will work whether Verizon likes it or not. Within 30 days a developer will have it fully functional on our devices. That's one of the benefits of getting the Galaxy Nexus.

Np.

I know others carriers have it as a policy. My bf has done it at ATT. It may be that big Red is being stricter about it now? But it doesn't seem to be possible at any rate these days :(.
