What's new on 2.3.5?

Few things I've noticed on my sgs2.

The blue tint.
Different color unlock when using the slide combo.
Few changes to the music player (still no widget which is disappointing)
Different sound when deleting text in messaging.
Smoother tab switching on default browser (I use maxthon. best browser ever. mobile and pc)
Option to log into Samsung to check for updates. and auto update button.

I'm sure there is more. I've only just updated.

Hi there I have 2.3.6 just now. I like the idea of slowing down CPU to conserve battery when it is less than 50% or whatever...like Mobile363 above.

However now I have 2 of those power saving "recycle" shaped annoying icons not just one displaying constantly! Does anyone know how to make them disappear?

I am on o2 in the UK and have checked on Kies but yet no update. Anyone know if it has been rolled out ? Cheers

I received the O2 update, 2.3.5, via Kies a ages ago. I recently updated to 2.3.6 via ODIN. It debrands your phone, no more O2 splash screen at start up's and your no longer tied to the O2 apps. Win win I'd say.

Hey

thank you for your reply. My phone is not branded but still no update.

I have my settings :

Model : GTI9100
Android : 2.3.4
Baseband : I9100XXKI1
Kernal version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468

Can anyone help ?

You have the same as mine, the unbranded UK model. That's the latest official update for our phone. You can either run Odin and get a more recent update from another country, or you can continue to wait patiently.

Ours is one of the more recent 2.3.4 updates. We already have most of the new features included in the 2.3.5/2.3.6 updates that I've heard people talking about, though we don't have the blue overscroll glow.

Trust me, this update isn't a big deal. The one you want is the ICS update, and that's likely going to be a few months.

I have an unbranded S2 and running 2.3.4 how does a branded phone get the newer firmware before an unbranded phone. I thought the branded phones took longer as o2 orange etc wants to put their bloatware on the new software? I upgraded my mates Vodafone HTC Desire HD as he does not have a clue and to my amazement he now has 2.3.6. I think I will be going for a HTC or Galaxy nexus to get the latest versions of software.

just installed 2.3.5 couple days back via KIES(too slow it is too).
I was surprised to see there were no major goodies in it at all compared to 2.3.3 atleast cosmetically. other than a stupid overscroll bluish sort of glow and very minor other ones. miss HTC's sense badly.
I agree there might be a few upgrades internally. but wat good is to normal users without some visual changes too.

There are two aspects in a Galaxy S2 software update; Android and Samsung's own software.

As Samsung develops their software, or significant new Android versions release, they release updates for their phones. The UK unbranded was typically first for the major updates. Every Android release after 2.3.3 was pretty insignificant (with 2.3.6 and 2.3.7 having Nexus-specific fixes). What we have on the UK 2.3.4 is the latest Samsung software release minus very few changes (blue overscroll glow is all I've noticed). After the unbranded phone was taken care of, Samsung went about distributing the software revision to branded handsets with the carrier's desired changes. This meant adding carrier bloatware, and because of the extra time needed, the latest Android source was merged into these updates.

Don't worry yourself over every dot release. The UK unbranded firmware is more than adequate. I have yet to see anything from these carrier releases that makes it worth upgrading to.
