Changes in Data Plan?

I currently have the Droid 1, with a $20 Discount on my data plan.

I was looking around on the Verizon's website, and it said I needed to change my data plan, because my current one was not compatible with the new phone.

While the pricing is the same, $29.99 for unlimited, I was concerned about losing my discount.

Has anyone upgraded and successfully maintained their discount?

While the Nexus looks like an amazing phone, I don't think the additional monthly fees and higher purchase price of the phone will constitute the upgrade, considering 4G service is not available where I live.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have that same discount I haven't upgraded yet but I did contact customer service and have an email saying that I can keep my unlimited data plan and the $20 discount. You probably need to call or go into a store. Let me know if you get it to work i'm probably buying in a few days want to see how this phone turns out.

I recently changed devices on a line with a discount similar to yours. It was a 3g to 3g change though. Although the discount wasn't mentioned in the new plan, when the bill came, the discount was there just like before.

I am a little worried because i had heard my discount was only for one year. Making changes after that year mark could really in something different. But i am going that verizon's tendency to grandfather things like this will hold true.

The one time this last year i had a problem was when one of my lines went from a smartphone to non smartphone for a month after the phone got wet while fishing. That took a phone call to get sorted out. I think as long as you keep a smartphone on the line you should be ok.

I saw in the Thunderbolt forum where the discount was available until 2038, so you may want to double check on it. I was concerned since unlimited data had gone away (except if you were grandfathered in), so I didn't know if that would affect the discount or not.

The only thing I remember seeing about the year was you were essentially signing a one year contract in order to get the discount.

I will be heading to the brick and mortar store today after work, I will post the end result...

I'm still on an old plan that they no longer have, I had no problems getting the GN with a discount without changing my plan.

During the checkout process, it said my current plan was not compatible with "this phone". Although, they still offered the same plan, at the same price as one of the options. I am not sure if this only an update from 3G to 4G.

Did you not receive the same notice?

I simply walked into the store and they sold me the phone without any changes to my plan. If it makes any difference I had an OG Droid before the GN.
