Help Signal Strength

A friend of mine that works for VZW corp informed me a little bit ago that there is another update coming down the pipe (4.1?) that will really help if not solve the signal issues. He said it should probably be in the next week or two. He also suggested I take this with a grain of salt because of the last few weeks and the update delays that delayed the phone's launch.

I recall p3 getting 4.1and it made a huge difference in his wifi and 4g signal.

Will we be able to get it OTA if we're rooted and boot loader unlocked?

I wish.

Consistently showing -100 db to -103 as a signal whereas before I would get -89 db to -92 db.

This sucks.

Are you noticing a decrease in call quality?

My initial testing seems to show that although the bars and db are not as favorable, the call quality seems quite good. Will run it through more testing. Also, GNex cannot connect to home Network Extender. So there are definite issues with connections. May be ICS related...so says support.

That is why I am assuming 4.1, but I don't really know what version it is. I just know 4.1 was in testing. I also remember hearing business reps telling people to wait about a week before buying so that a new update could be rolled out.

It shouldn't be a problem if you are simply unlocked and rooted. Custom things done to the phone might change that though.

Would be nice if all that were true, cause I got no LTE signal at work today.

I was seeing much better dBm readings yesterday afternoon. It actually bumped up to -84 dBm towards the end. This morning I am seeing -103 dBm and about 2 bars. I am still connected to 4G though and the speed tests I am getting are equal to or better than they were on the Rezound. As far as wifi goes, I am getting a much stronger connection than I have had on any other phone I've ever used. Speed tests on wifi have actually been superior to my netbook and laptop.

My co-worker has a Rezound since Tuesday. He gets insane speeds compared to my GNex. We tested it today in two locations: work and the mall where we had lunch for work. I did not look at the actual numbers, but here are the results.

Very depressing for the GNex.

At work: He had 20+Mbps down and 10+Mbps up. My Gnex was getting 11Mbps down and 5Mbps up. His Rezound smoked my GNex

At the mall: The Gnex could not get a 4G signal. His Rezound got 12Mbps down and 8Mbps up.

Results: The Gnex sucks on the 4G network. I am going to keep it for another couple days to see. If it does not improve, I am probably going to the Rezound.

I don't know if you can compare signal power readings across different OEMs/radios/etc. My Droid X always had terrific signal but the bars were all over the place. The signal bars on my GNex seem to be steadier and I have no issues with 3g/4g.
My managers TBolt can barely hold a 4g signal (and I've tried almost all the available radios).

Can't comment on LTE, but on 3G this phone has been as good if not better than my Inc, Continuum and Eris were. Would not be surprised if a lot of the LTE issues were mostly network side honestly given the networks past history of sucking. Sorry for all that are having troubles and I hope updates help ya'll out, glad mine hasn't seen them surface yet.
