Razr firmware update

I've not been happy with the update. This phone was amazing before it, after I've had nothing but problems. Force closes on apps I've never had issues with before, worse battery life, 3G signal drops like crazy, lock ups and lag galore, it's like Motorola said "You see this awesome phone we made, let's jack it up so we can be more like Samsung... It's apparently been a good business model for them."

One of the widgets I'm using has a themo reading (not 100% sure it is accurate). Anyways it hasn't gone above 100F so I think all is fine on mine. Haven't really pushed the phone very hard; might try a game or something later. I mostly keep lte off 'cept when browsing. The only thing kind of annoying with switching lte on/off is it seems to take a couple of minutes to actually establish service (indicator is instant; but data transfers dont' work right away if you try to use them).

I'm having the same problems as well. Force close on apps
I've never had an issue with, and is anyone else's getting hotter than hell on light usage? I run the mp3 player and it heats up my phone like mad!

Alright, I found something that "may" work. I did this yesterday afternoon and my phone "seems" to have responded well to it. I cant guarantee this will fix/address everyone's issues. But thus far, it's been a big improvement for me. Someone else posted these steps, so I cant take credit for coming up with this.

Try a wipe cache partiton. This is safe, doesn't remove any user data and can sometimes clear up problems after an update. Here are the steps for a wipe cache partition.
  1. Power the phone down.
  2. Press and hold the volume up and down button at the same time and then press the power button. It took both my hands to do this.
  3. You should now be at the Boot Mode Selection Menu. Press the volume down key to highlight "Recovery". Press the volume up key to select it.
  4. Next, you should see a white triangle with a yellow exclamation point and the green android. Give it a few seconds to appear.
  5. Now press the volume up and down key together again. You should now see the Android system recovery.
  6. Use the volume up and down to scroll and the power button to select.
  7. Scroll down to "wipe cache partition" and press the power button. It should now do this task and return you to the Android system recovery.
  8. "reboot system now" should be highlighted. Tap the power button to reboot.
  9. It may take a couple of minutes to boot the phone the first time. After it boots it may also feel sluggish for a few minutes. Things need to adjust to the wipe. This is normal.
  10. Test to see if things are better.
Hope this helps.

So you wiped the cache partition, cool. But to fix what problem(s)?
Phone started lagging out REALLY bad, requiring a restart at least once a day. Apps were force closing frequently. Screen hasnt locked up since. And strangely enough, data connection hasnt been an issue over the past 26 hours. (could just be a coincidence, but I'm leaning towards there being some persistent crap in the system after the update and clearing the cache helped)

Also, this was the first time I had seen the steps to clear the cache on a non-clockwork phone. Maybe it's common knowledge, but this process is much more involved than the other ones I've seen before.

Im just glad that it worked for you. I can't believe I forgot to try this myself. My main problem is data issues (both 4G and wifi). Im curious. Did you install the OTA last week? I did and it made my phone worse. Lucky for my I had a nandroid of the stock build so reverted back and battery life at least is back to normal for me.

I've had the update for over a week. It definitely made my phone worse, until I did the wipe cache that is. It still may be too early to tell, but ever since I wiped the cache, it's stopped P*$$ing me off.
I dont use 4G much, my battery gets eaten and I need battery life more than the data speeds (I switch it over when I really need the data). I think that battery life has definitely decreased with the update, but if the rest of the phone continues like it has for the past 28 hours or so, I'll be satisfied with my phone yet again.
I havent played with wifi much in the past 28 hours, but after the update and before the wipe, I nearly threw my phone through a wall and started using Motorola and Samsung as a synonymous curse word. Since the wipe, Motorola as a curse word is safe... For now ;)

I did the ota update overnight and everything seems to be in order except I lost my home key!!! So annoyed! I hit home from any app or web page fine but beyond that it doesn't work. It takes me to my last home screen I was on rather than the main homepage and once I'm there I can no longer hit it again to go to main page or bring up all home screens. Ahhhhh wtf. Other note data seems to have improved.

That sounds REALLY strange... I haven't had that issue or seen it before. May want to try the wipe cache to see if that fixes it.

Ok, first want to say that I am a newbie to the threads. Had the original Droid, now the Droid Razr. I can navigate my phone fairly well, but am in NO WAY as adept as most of you guys ... so please forgive any ignorance.

Got the update this morning; it loaded fine and had no issues installing. However, since the update, my display indicates that I have no reception at all and zero data connection, not even 1x. I have powered off and back on with no fix. Then, I hit the thread and saw executor485's suggestion of the cache wipe, which I did, but still no fix. Interestingly, as I typed this, I got a text from my wife and sent a reply with no problem. So, I guess I have connection .... ?:thinking:

Szadzik, this did the trick. Wonder, why that unchecked? Oh well, thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully, the update will be a nice Christmas gift to my already impressive phone.:D

the same exact thing happened to me. i didn't uncheck it, it somehow unchecked itself. at least now i know to look for this in the future...but hopefully it doesn't happen again :D

UPDATE: I used my phone all day as normal and had HUGE battery drain. The home key issue never worked itself out so my next plan is to do the above mentioned cache wipe but first I decided to do a simulated battery pull. (powerdown and down volume key same time).
Well that made things WORSE!!! Now I can't seem to get data back at all. Ive done all the basic checks to make sure its on but still no luck. Home key issue still there too.
So now I tried the cache wipe from boot recovery menu. I CANT SELECT THE "RECOVERY" OPTION!!!!!!!! WHEN I HIT THE DOWN KEY IT DOES NOTHING! SO ANNOYED! PLEASE HELP!

Alright...I got my replacement phone tuesday afternoon. After a full day yesterday, Battery life is close to normal. 15 hours and at 60%. Light to medium use. Neing as the network seemed to be off and on, this might have something to do with the battery life too. Over all, the phone runs better than the one I had, but still not as fast as it seemed to runbefore the update. I hope they are working on an update for this update.......

Granted, I have only had the update for two days now; but my data connection and overall reception are just pinballing all over the place -- at times having none at all. My battery life has gone to *expletive deleted* which I assume is a result of my phone constantly struggling to find signal. And, to top it off, my phone is running noticeably hotter than prior to the update .... not burning up, but to the point where I can feel it when its in my pocket.

Anyone else having these issues?? I see the outages with the data and I am being patient and understanding that 90% of this SHOULD resolve when that is fixed.
