Does anybody *not* have screen banding?

Consider yourself lucky then, you would notice it in the settings screen for sure and I definitely go into my settings at least a couple times a day.

I ended up just keeping mine too much of a hassle to relock the bootloader and fight with Verizon to get another one that might be worse since I've really only got one noticeable band and everything else has been great with my handset. From the boards I frequent this is pretty common so good for you if you cant see it or got a good one..

Check out Black Exodus theme...it at least gets rid of the gray gradient settings screens :)

I too have banding, most noticeable on the settings screens, News/Weather app, Market opening screen, etc. I keep the brightness low just because thats how I like it so its a little more obvious.

Physically got a 2nd phone from WireFly to check against, and checked against 2 VZW demo phones and mine was #2 out of all 4 in regards to banding. Only other option is to try one more from WireFly before Jan 30 (since they have a 30 day satisfaction policy), but after they deactivated my initial GNex for no reason I dont want to go through that again.

I have a bit of a band on grey. Ill post a photo later. What i wonder is if this is a variation of the fly screen effect... luke thete is some variation in how the pixels get printed or laid down in vertical strips and we are seeing some manufacturing variation from that process. For me it is only visible on very large grey areas... such as the default 'contact' image shown during phone calls. Mine isnt bad enough to eeturn the phone... i mean how often do i stare at a grey screen? It is still a bit of a dissapointment though...

Here's mine. I've increased the contrast on the right image to make it easier to see. This is using the grey color from a dead pixel app from the android market.

There is a prominent thick (about 20% screen width) vertical band just right of center running the entire height of the screen. There are many other vertical and horizontal bands that are less prominent.

I don't think it's bad enough to really bother me as its only on grey. And I'd hate to return the phone and chance it with another one, whether new or refurbished...

I think it is just an artifact of the manufacturing process.

My phone has banding, which from what I can tell was normal. This was my 3rd Nexus. But this one also had a a very thick horizontal band at the top which was different from everything I saw on other phones.

I decided to ignore it until a couple days ago. I bought my wife Nexus for Valentines days from Costco. And as soon as I got home and put both of our phone next to each other......MAN...what a difference.

Her screen is what I call perfect. Both phone run side by side with the brightness settings the same are two different screens. She has no banding....zero. On any brightness setting, her screen is 10% brighter than mine. And her whites are really white.

Mine on the other hand has all types of banding including that really thick horizontal bar. My screen is not as bright, and I realized that my screen (especially on whites) has a purple tint to it.

And you want to know something else that's really odd. The stock ICS wall paper, the rainbow, it's different on hers. The vertical color bands vary in shades and thickness. The little specks are in different locations. Its a different wall paper.

I have this weird feeling Samsung has caught on to its mistake, and has corrected screens in those new batches. Basically screwing us early adopters. But I'm telling you there a newer better Nexus out there.

I'm requesting a fourth replacement. Sad.

How did your replacement go?

What do you think about my GN screen?

2Lg34l.jpg

Mine looked a lot like that on day 2 back last year. It almost looked like water stains streaking down the screen vertically. I took it back to the VZW store and compared it to the in-store demo and the salesman's GN. Both units showed no streaking and they exchanged it. I checked this one thoroughly before leaving the store.

"Banding" that is common to this display type is NOT what you have posted. Banding typically appears as more even straight lines....as in horizontal lines of maybe 10 pixels high that appear slightly different shade than the adjacent lines. Very similar to what jkc120 posted above.
